  • Taxidermist Brian Johnson wasn't happy with the quality of the forms he worked with, so he began sculpting his own, which started his fascination with whitetail anatomy. After decades of study, Brian has figured out the perfect place to aim when bowhunting, even if your shot is slightly off, to ensure a quick, clean kill.

I'm a medical imaging specialist and iIm really into vertebrate anatomy in general.
I'm so glad to see somebody actually breaking this stuff down being curious about it. Teaching this is so inportant.
Far too many people just are not curious enough, interested enough, or informed enough about animal anatomy, yet are still shooting arrows at deer.
We have to take all of this more seriously. We can not afford to have casual bow hunters, or we're gonna lose our sport.

This is excellent information and I really appreciate the fact that Brian said he is a student of the whitetail anatomy and shot placement.

🎯 Most excellent data sirs, you get what you cut and what you cut with an exit wound is so important, the elk hunt is most interesting, huge animal, eventually lethal, on deer I have had great success with a Ripper 425 xbow with a 2 inch cut swhacker 400 grain total weight bolt, flat shooting always an exit even thru the shoulder blade for me.

sounds like ol Troy knows what he is saying this sounds like what the ranch fairy says

The best shot for bowhunting is anything that intersects the midpoint of the mediastinum above the heart, like where he said the marble is.
But, you have to know where it is, since you cannot see it, AND you have to know the possible obstacles and impedements which lie in that path. This can change if a deer so much as shifts his weight from one back leg to the other. "Broadside" is a very general category.

He just preached everything the ranch fairy is trying to teach. Well tuned Heavier arrows and a good steel fixed blade broad head you have a better penetration. Shot placement first, penetration second. Not only does ranch fairy preach it but so do the fellows at Hornady when they talk about rifle bullets and hunting. Sad people want to shame Troy.

He didnt say anything about arrow tuning, weight, or broadhead type. Plus ranch fairy wants to aim for the tiniest spot with no room for error. That is the exact opposite of this persons approach...

@@Bbbb4life I don’t know what videos you been watching of Troy’s but that’s the opposite of what he says. This guy is also saying you need to get a double long not a single lung and that is exactly what Troy is saying. They are both saying you need penetration and you get that with fixed blades and heavier arrows. It’s nothing to argue with because it’s just physics
