• I Made The Best Vegan ...
I am in love with this Greek Yogurt and you will be too! Not only easy and delish it is also a money saver. I Hope you check it out!
This video has finally inspired me to make my own yogurt for the first time
Yay! You will love it.
Homemade Greek Yogurt ……Another great video! TFS
I didn't know you can use the whey as a starter!! That is brilliant, very sustainable, I'm gonna try that, thanks for sharing. I make mine with 1 pack of soymilk and half can of coconut cream mixed well and ferment, drain and boom! It really tastes like cream cheese... I put some salt and chopped chives or green onion and it is perfect spread for anything..
I love the idea of mixing the coconut cream with the soymilk! That sounds great.
IF you're making vegan yogurt putting whey in it makes it NOT vegan
Homemade Yogurt - Thanks for writing out complete recipes including the instructions. Plant Based Dads has good content.
You are so welcome! I try to make sure my recipes are easy to follow.
I’m excited to try using the whey as a starter, I always just threw it out. I’ve found that my yogurt gets much thicker if I make it in a glass jar placed in about 2 inches of very hot water in the instant pot. I encourage you to test the jar method with a small amount and let me know what you think. I also set my yogurt time for 14 hours. When I do it this way, I only need about 4 hours to drain it. Making this yogurt feels like magic
I don't think I want mine any thicker. It is so thick as it is. But thanks for sharing.
@@ChewonVegan You misunderstood, it comes out thicker from the instant pot cycle because the bacteria grows better in a glass container, so you only need to drain the yogurt for a few hours to get it to be the thickness you like. Instead of how now you said you were draining it for 24 to 48 hours, it could be only 4 hour of draining. Sometimes it comes out so thick from the beginning that I use it that way.
I appreciate that you mention actual brand names of the items you use/prefer.
I try to be as detailed as possible in my recipes. Thank you for watching!
OMG this is crazy how easy it is ❤
I know! And it so good!
I can't help but feel that I contributed to this recipe as I gave pbd a bunch of tips and pointers after the first video and this is basically my technique! Lol.
If you want to try next time, I love to actually whip the yogurt after I strain it for an even creamier consistency.
Also, be sure to sanitize the ip before use as it is a really sad day when you lose a batch.
I have been doing this since i went vegan 9 years ago as i never found a plant based commercial yogurt that i liked. I make double batches and use in all sweet and savory applications. I use it as my sour cream replacement too and have had sceptic meat eaters go back at it with a spoon!
The yogurt button is the most important button on my ip! ❤❤❤
Thank you for your contribution to this recipe. It is amazing! Also thank you for the additional tips. I will add sanitizing for my next batch. My meat eating husband absolutely loves it. I have used it as sour cream, desserts, salad dressing, for cream cheese. The list is endless. So glad you shared it with Joey💚
Hi Deb, I have been making my own soy yogurt in the Instant Pot for the past few years. I use only 1 litre at a time and put it in a 4 cup measuring cup and then put that into the instant pot. I find 12 hours works well. I usually only strain it for 24 hours might try the 48 hours the next time. It's so versatile.
I'm glad you've been making your own yogurt for a while! It's a real game changer!
Me, too!! I also do a quart at a time & 24 hours. Less "water" = less time, super thick and delicious!!
Do you put the soy milk in the measuring cup together into the instant pot?- dry or with water on a rack?
Homemade yogurt I just made in the instant pot with two pint jars using 3 probiotic capsules. I'll save the whey liquid from this yogurt batch and next time I will just add it to the clean instant pot with more soy milk and when strained I will save the liquid and what I don't use I will freeze. Thanks! This will be much easier and I'm looking forward to using the strainer too!
Sounds like a great plan and so much easier than using capsules for each batch.
Excellent timing! I’ve been wanting to make my own and I’m grateful this isn’t a scratch recipe using dried soybeans. This is a whole lot easier. 🎉🙏🏻
It really is easier! You’ll love it!
Yep I tried that method too!🥴
I am so excited to try this!!! Homemade yogurt!!
You're going to love this recipe!
I’ve been making this for a while now and I’m so addicted. I can’t believe how much more delicious this is then the store yogurt
I know! I can’t go back to store bought either!
Plant based yogurt! Thanks so much for this recipe! Want to try asap!
You are so welcome! Enjoy!
Home make yogurt 😋😊
Ok I m sold - ow I’m gonna try it- I have to get a new IP with a yogurt setting. And the strainer! Love Joey and Tim. Homemade yogurt
I’m so glad you’re going to try it! You won’t regret it. I think you may be able to use your current IP on the warm setting over night. I would try that first before buying a new one.
@@ChewonVeganmy instant pot doesn't have the warm setting or yogurt, maybe slow cooking will do the job. Thanks for ideas
Thanks for this recipe! I love kite Hill also and have noticed the price increasing in our area too..
I am transitioning to plant based eating so I am happy that I found you… maybe my family will not be so shocked about my eating plant based when I mention I have found a plant based eating RN! I am having trouble finding a good B-12 which I know I will have to supplement. Would you share your daily supplements and where I might find them?
You are so welcome! I take Complement multi vitamins. They have everything you need.
@ Thanks!
This looks amazing. I can’t wait to try it! When I press the yogurt button on my instant pot, it comes up on boil. It seems to have two settings, low and boil. Is it 12 hours on the low setting? I am going to use soy milk, but all the instant pot yogurt recipes I have found boil the milk first. Thank you for your recipes!
I have never boiled the milk. So I can't really speak to that. If you have a warm setting on your IP I would use that.
@ Thank you! I used the low setting and it should be done in about 3 hours. 🤞Excited to see what I get! Love your recipes! Thank you!
I love homemade soy yogurt and eat it every day! I like to use a small container of plain Cocojune coconut yogurt as my starter with one quart of organic Edensoy plain (just soybeans and water) soy milk, in glass jars in the Instant Pot for 10 hours. Been doing it for a couple of years and it turns out great every time!❤ I tried making Greek style yogurt once straining it through cheesecloth and that did not work well. Your strainer looks perfect!
That is so awesome that you've been making your own yogurt for so long! I think you will have better luck with the strainer. Thanks so much for watching💚
excellent ideas thank you...I would add my favourite english condiment worcestershire sauce to it
Great idea!
Excellent job… great video!👌👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much for watching! 💚
I got value🤸🏻♀️ Homemade Yogurt! I hope I can halve it and it will still work. Love ❤️ your enthusiasm!
I think it will work!
Looks easy to make; I've tried other versions but too messy or didn't taste good. Can"t wait to try the recipe out. thanks
You're welcome, I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you so much for sharing this and it looks amazingly great and thick 😋 I saw it on plant based dads channel as well but that was their initial version and had few extra steps which later they mentioned that it was not necessary 😁 but now this version is wonderfully simple . I just have to get the strainer 🙌
Hope you enjoy , it's so good
Home made yogurt, Wow 🎉
Hope you enjoy
How do you store the liquid that's draoned out? And how long will it keep in the fridge?
Thanks for all you do! 💜
*drained
You can keep in the fridge for a few days. Otherwise I divided it up into a few containers with 1/4 cup in each and store in the freezer.
I would love to try this, but I don’t own an instant pot. Any suggestions for stove top, or maybe low heat oven? Thanks. 🇨🇦
I think you can but I don't know the specifics. I would search for that on you tube. You can find anything there
@ Thanks, I’ll see if I can find anything. I’m 72, not terribly tech savvy, but I’ll get there. 🇨🇦
Homemade yogurt! Thank you for this recipe! I appreciate your content! 😊
You are so welcome! I hope you enjoy it!
I'm so excited to try this! Thanks soooooo much for sharing.
Say, what other uses do you have for the whey? Would you consider using it to thin your creamy version of the 3-2-1 dressing? I have no idea yet what the whey tastes like.
Again, thanks! All the best to you and yours, @ChewonVegan.
You are so welcome! I did a follow up video to answer some of the questions that some of you all had.
ruclips.net/video/S9Suo2AmX3c/видео.html
I can’t wait to try making the yogurt. Your dressing looks tasty too.
It's so easy, and the dressing is delicious!
Homemade yogurt!! Great video!! Thanks for sharing!!😊
You are so welcome!
your fiber intake is spot on - going by Dr Greger 😊. the 25g seem to be a minimum probably not to frustrate people? I am on a good way, but can improve. I like your recepy. what I need now is my sisters instant pot
Thank you! I hope your sister will share her IP with you😀
I just made this and it will be 48 hours 10 am tomorrow. Cant wait to try. When saving the whey do you also save the sediment that settles in the bottom or just the liquid? Thanks
Save it all. I give it a stir to make sure. Hope you love it.
@ChewonVegan thanks again. Appreciate you!
@ChewonVegan it turned out delicious. Definitely better than any store bought version I've had. And so easy too. Looking forward to using the whey for a second batch to see how it turns out. Thanks again.
Homemade yogurt! I haven't found vegan greek yogurt where I live in Canada. I do, however, buy organic coconut milk kefir. It's super thick like greek yogurt. I pay $27.00 for a large mason jar! I've seen many recipes for greek yogurt, but yours is the easiest! Do you think that the coconut kefir would work? Thanks again, Deb, for another great recipe. 😊
Wow $27 that's crazy. I don't know if Kiefer would work. This is all new to me. You could try a small test batch. Let me know if you do and how it turned out
This video couldn't come at a better time! I too love the Kite Hill Greek yogurt, but I have to go out of my way to buy it and it's getting super expensive as you said. I just ordered the strainer and will hit Trader Joe's later 🥳 Thanks Deb!
I'm so glad I could help you out! You are going to love it! Let me know how your first batch turns out.
Homemade Yogurt! Wow! I can’t wait to try!
It’s so easy! Enjoy!
That’s a great recipe, I am wondering if it would work with almond milk ?
I think so!
Does it make any difference if you use the solid yogurt instead of the whey for the starter?
Homemade yogurt! Unexpected life changes have put a spin on our entire lifestyle but thank you for reminding me this is really so easy. ❤
You are so welcome! Glad this was a good reminder.
Yum. This looks perfect. I need to make this asap! :)
You'll love it, it's so easy
I started making this on Christmas Day. It is an absolute game changer. I have not been able to find a decent salad dressing since I went WFPB. I never am without it. Getting the euro strainer is worth it.
So glad you're enjoying it! It's the best, right?
@ absolutely! What’s really important is that I’m upping my protein and probiotics. There was a study done at Stanford that showed that natural probiotics in foods are much more powerful than taking supplements. Unfortunately, what they used in the study were dairy based foods. I’m so excited to have found something that tastes creamy, delectable and is super healthy.
I make yogurt with this method, except that I just strain it with a clean tea towel lined strainer. Also I only have to let it drain for a few hours. So much better than anything premade, in both taste and texture!
Oh yes, so many so better, I'm never going back to store bought again.
Thank you for simplifying this! I now feel less overwhelmed and ready to make it. I ordered my strainer and soy milk and can't wait to get started. Thanks again!
I hope you love it as much as I do!
@@ChewonVegan I made it last night and tasted it before I put in the strainer and fridge. I loved the tangy flavor. It looked exactly as yours did in the video. I am excited to take it out in 48 hours. Thanks again. It is so easy to make.
Homemade Yogurt! Oh my yes, homemade is ever so much better than store bought. I’ve been too impatient to make Greek style, but you’ve inspired me. Thank you so much.
Could you use the whey to thin the dressing? Any other ideas for using the leftover whey?
You are so welcome! I am sure you could use the whey to thin the dressing. This is new to me so this is all I have come up with so far. Stay tuned.
Homemade yogurt I am so very excited to make this!! You are right store bought is so expensive 😮
I know! It’s ridiculous!
So excited to try it!
You’re going to love it!
I've been waiting for a recipe for yogurt. Can't wait to try it. Thanks
You’re going to love it!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, I just ordered a Greek yogurt strainer and soy milk🤗
You are so welcome! I hope you enjoy the yogurt as much as I do!
Homemade yogurt! Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome! So glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you soooooo much!! Plant-based yogurt is not available - AT ALLLL - where I live. Could I use Probiotics to make my first batch? Homemade yogurt!
I would think you can but I have never done it that way.
@@ChewonVegan Thanks! I will try it tomorrow and let you know! Thank you for the response!
Great Video, What do you do with the rest of the whey? Is there anything else you use it for?
I save some for future batches and toss the rest. I'll be working on ideas on what to do with it.
Yum! Thank you for this! I will finally try making yogurt after all these years! You have inspired me! And i will probably say the same thing as you, That I can't believe I didn't try it sooner!
I am so glad you are going to give it a try! You are going to love it!
Looks great. Thanks for sharing! And good tip on dividing the dressing up. I wonder if the extra whey would be okay to thin the dressing?
It probably would, but I have not tried that.
Homemade yogurt. OMG how easy is that. I've been intimidated making it in the mason jars so have never tried. Did you use a 3 or 6 quart ipot? Thank you so much. I always hate paying so much for the yogurt and only buy when on sale. Now i have to get the strainer. Thanks again.🤗
You are so welcome! I used a 6 quart but a 3 quart would work. I hope you love this yogurt as much as I do!
Thank you so much. I’m gonna have to hang onto this video and check out the yogurt makers.
You are welcome, I hope you enjoy it!
Homemade yogurt! Can't wait to try this!
It is so easy to make, you'll love it!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I'm excited to try this I agree yogurt prices have doubled
I know it is ridiculous!
Homemade yogurt! Thank you. This sounds wonderful
You are so welcome!
That looks so great, I'd get an Instapot just to make that. ❤Inspired❤
You won’t regret it!
Hi there can you use the yogurt as a starter for your 1st batch I couldn’t catch what you said in the beginning sorry.
Yes, I used 1/4 cup of a store bought plain vegan Greek yogurt for my first batch.
Wow! Easy. What setting should I use if I don't have a specific yogurt setting on my insta pot?
Also, can I use a salad spinner instead of the strainer? I don't have one! Any other suggestions?
I would love to try it! Thx 😊
I just found the strainer link at bottom of message. Thank you! I am going to order it today.
Lately, I am on a kick with raw foods for healing, but this salad will be a dinner for me. I love the raw with cooked and can't wait to make the dressing!
You can use the warm setting. I've never done that myself but I have heard it works.
Great!
I’m so excited to try this! Thanks so much for showing us the process.
You’re welcome! It’s so easy!
Great video!!! Will try!!! Happy to try!!!💞💞🙃💞💞
I hope you love it!
Homemade yogurt. Must try!
You're going to love it!
Homemade yogurt! Thanks!!
You are so welcome! 💚
Can’t wait to try it!
You're going to love it!
Has anyone made this in a more basic IP without a yogurt setting, and if so, can you specify the setting used (pressure cook?) and for how long? Thanks.
I have read you can do it on the warm setting over night.
Hi great video. Thank you for sharing with everyone. Would it be possible to make this in half the quantity? Thank you.
I would think so. But you can freeze the yogurt once it's done. So why not make a full batch.
Hi Debi, ?? I didn’t hear what to do to keep the starter for the next time. Do I just keep it in the fridge and will it last more than a week or would I put the starter in the freezer?? Thank you for the great video. I just recently bought my strainer but like many other times I let fear of not succeeding or not knowing what to do keep me from making any!
It looks like my comment didn't go through. You can freeze the whey to start your next batch. I put !/4 cup of it into a few jars and freeze them. I hope you enjoy the yogurt as much as I do!
EXCELLENT recipe and content as usual Deb =) Can you share a link or some info on your strainer you used? Thank you!
@@TannerBGoody thanks. There is a link in the description box for the strainer
@@ChewonVegan Yikes I didn't notice that somehow lol Thank you so much! =)
I bought this so fast 😂 can’t wait
You will love it💚
Do you have an estimation of the nutritional value of 1 cup of this vegan Greek yogurt? Cant wait to try this. Thanks
Not really, I'm sure it has calcium, vitamins etc. macros for a serving and yours may vary. It depends how much of the liquid drains off or yours. so an average serving is 140 grams. You will get 156 calories, 16 grams protein, 7 grams carb and 6 grams fat.
@ChewonVegan thanks you!
Can a different plant milk be used besides soy?
Hi! I think as long as it has very few fillers and is higher in fat it is supposed to work. I've not tried though ✌️
I have not use other milks. I do know that it is a different process for say Almond milk. Search RUclips for recipes. I have seen them out there.
What are the macros on just the Greek yogert
Where can I find the large strainer that you used in the video? That looks very handy and fit the quantity you are making. Thanks
There is a link in the description box.
If you have a strainer and some cheesecloth at home, no need to buy another plastic kitchen item. Works great!
Hi Debi. Do you freeze the whey to save it for the next batch?
Correct 1/4 cup for each batch
Can you use the whey every time - or does it eventually lose it's "oomph"? Do you simply save enough whey for the next batch and throw out the rest? Thanks Debi.
Debbie in WA Ü
You can freeze it if you want. I freeze a couple jars with 1/4 cup of the whey. I have given some away but I do throw out the rest. I am trying to come up with something I can use it for. I hate throwing that out.
@@ChewonVegan THanks Debi - that answers my question perfectly 👍
Homemade yogurt in my Instant Pot is the best! Like you, I noticed the price of the better plant based yogurts had skyrocketed but I also found it nearly impossible to find plain soy yogurt which is my favorite. 2 questions - #1 How long will the whey keep? I assume it can't be frozen. #2 Could you use the leftover whey to thin out the dressing?
@@elizabethmcdonald4318 you can definitely freeze it. I don't know about using it to thin the dressing but I guess you could.
In your dressing recipe how many cups of of yogurt are you using for those of us who can't weigh the ingredients? Looks delicious.
2/3 cup
I have never made yogurt, if I didn’t want Greek yogurt would I still strain it? Thanks for the video!
No need
The end result, the thickness, looks exactly
like the animal based Greek yogurt i used
to eat.
For whatever reasons,
my palate now no longer likes the taste of
soy milk. Is it possible to use another type
of plant milk?
Or is soy the one that solidifies
the best for that Greek homemade yogurt process?
I've only used soy milk, but you could certainly try another plant-based milk! I would recommend doing a small test batch to see how it turns out. You may want to search you tube for more information
@ChewonVegan
Your end result looked so GOOD.
I plan to use soy milk, I believe adding
sweetened fruits and vanilla will completely
mask any off-putting taste it may have for me.
Thanks for the video and inspiration.
@santiagohardy2728 you are so welcome! Enjoy!
@@santiagohardy2728 I think due to the higher fat content of soy it works better
@@ChewonVegan 😊👍
Could you use almond milk instead of soy milk?.
Please refer to this video for more information. ruclips.net/video/S9Suo2AmX3c/видео.html
I am going to try this recipe. Do you have a recipe for a ranch style dressing? Also, the requirement for fiber is 25 to 30 Grams not milligrams per day.
Not yet, I'm working on one. I know it's grams sometimes my mouth doesn't cooperate with my brain🤣
@ChewonVegan I understand just didn't want people getting constipated.😂
Can I use homemade almond milk to make this yogurt??
I would think so. It won't have as much protein as soy milk but it should work.
@@ChewonVeganI’ve tried the almond milk without success, I think the increase fat from the soy milk and using the plant milk without any additives is what makes it work. Let me know if you make it work with almond milk
Debi Is there a way to make kefir vegan? If so, I would love you to work on that I wish and do a video.
I am not sure. I'll have to look into that.
I’m switching from milk yogurt to soy yogurt. Can I use a quarter cup of milk yogurt to start my soy yogurt?
If you want to switch over completely I wouldn't recommend it. But if you Don't mind that then it should work.
Looks so good? I can't have soy, is there another non dairy milk I can use to make this?
I have seen videos on you tube with Almond milk but the process is a bit different, I would search for a IP Greek yogurt recipe using the kind of plant milk you want to use.
Thank you! So easy! Maybe…. I looked through the comments and didn’t notice if it’s necessary to get the high protein kite hill, or the other one? Thanks again!
Also ..what’s the protein in one serving? 15 ?
You are so welcome! I don't know if that would make a difference. All I had was the high protein Kite hill.
about 17 grams for 170 grams or 2/3 cup
@@ChewonVegan thank you!
Thanks for the recipe! I’ve made the soy yogurt in jars in the IP, but never thought to strain them. Any idea how much fat is in your salad dressing? Any idea for a substitute for the balsamic? Thank you!
You are so welcome. The fat is around 1.9 grams, You could use lemon juice instead.
Would it be ok to use a flavored yogurt as a starter? What do you use to sweeten and flavor your homemade yogurt?
I don't know if using a flavored yogurt would affect anything. I've never done that. You could sweeten with maple syrup or any sweetener of your choice. I like to add vanilla or chocolate protein powder to mine, it's so good.
Do you allow the IP to natural release or quick release?
No need to do either. Just open it open up after 12 hours.
How long will the starter last after you drain the yogurt ? How do I start without the starter for my first time ?
Yes, I would like to know this also
Thanks Debi for this great recipe. . I’ve only made yogurt in mason jars in the instapot but this looks much better. Can you freeze the liquid in 1/4 cup amounts to start future yogurts?
Also I can’t find any plant based Greek yogurt in my area for a starter. Other option? Homemade Yogurt!
I use a vegan yogurt starter that I get from Amazon. The brand is bella bella
Yes you can freeze it. You could use a 1/4 cup of your homemade yogurt. That should work. Straining it is what makes it Greek Style and intensifies the protein content.
It lasts for a few days in the fridge. I like to ad 1/4 cup to a few containers and freeze them. As I said in the video you can use 1/4 cup of any plain vegan Greek yogurt to start your your first batch.
Does this yogurt come out nice and tart?
It's not super tart. It's so very creamy..
Homemade yogurt!!!💞💞🙃💞💞
Thanks for watching ♥️
Can the yogurt be made without an instant pot?
I know there are different methods to make yogurt. I have only tried this one. You may find some helpful videos here on you tube.
How long can you safely store the whey?
You can freeze it
Hi I had a few questions…about how much yogurt does this make? How did you figure out the macros/ calories in Cronometer? Did you ever try freezing the yogurt?
The amounts vary depending on how much of the liquid you get out of the yogurt, but on average 32 ounces. I use The formula from @plantbased dads. You can look for his Greek yogurt video on his You tube channel. I have not tried to freeze the yogurt. I use it everyday I use it pretty quickly so need to freeze so far.
@ thanks 😊
Deb this all looks great. I just tonight cooked up the Big Mtn Fava bean tofu. It all crumbled. Few chunks but was so sad.
And question, do we get the probiotics in this yogurt? Just curious
Ty!!
I'm not sure why your tofu did that. The one I get is very firm and holds up great. Yes you get probiotics in this yogurt.
@@ChewonVegan ty. I was so surprised. Re tofu.
How do you store the leftover whey? Or like how long does it last in the fridge? Does it still work if I freeze the vegan whey into cubes?
I put a 1/4 cup in a couple of containers and freeze them.
