Johnathan are there plans for a Boyne Falls Michigan trip this season? Can’t find any good videos or reviews of the full Mountain. Will be there in FEB
I snowboard apps for 13 hours straight and even after the mild concussions and the fatigue I still wanted to go another day, it’s an amazing park for new snowboarders
If you were planning your second ever ski trip and first ever to North Carolina, which resort would you go to and at what time of the year? This place looks cool. I was thinking Sugar Mtn, but unsure.
I live at the bottom of the mountain, as far as room, you have to stay at the surrounding motels, because they are not far from the trail at all, and there is a lot of good food around if you know where to go.
App Mtn is the site portion of the charity event called “Wake N Flake”. The first half of the day you wakeboard at different locations in NC. Then you have lunch and come to App to Snowboard or ski during the night. I’ve done it twice. Pretty cool to say you wakeboarded and snowboarded in the same day.
yo, can confirm, the terrain parks (yes they have two!) are on point right now..... the ones on this video with medium jumps are actually ALL rails at the moment. Agree with his review. only one OK tree run.... EXCELLENT STAFF
I want to get back up and check out Beech and Appalachian Ski mt. I've heard good things about Appalachian. I usually hit Cataloochee because it's easiest to get to from Atlanta. Lot of people diss NC skiing but I know Cat has some great snow making capabilities.
It’s definitely worth it if you have a long weekend. Having beech, sugar, and app ski all within 40 minutes of each other means you can hit all three and cover a lot of different runs.
This used to be one of the cheapest mountains anyone could ski. That being said, I learned everything I needed there. French Swiss is one of the best ski schools in the nation. Thanks Jim! But, anyway, Hickory, Gastonia, Lenoir, almost Charlotte are all closer than Johnson City. And driving up 321 is way easier/safer.
I have a season pass for Beech which is where usually go all season and I do love going to Utah and other states but NC is just all-around fun snowboarding and great vibes.
Appalachian Ski is a nice slope, mostly for beginners. That's why we have so many good skiers and snowboarders athletes. But you need to check out Sugar Mountain ski resort, I can help you with a lot of info about everything, from food to accommodations. We also have a Beech Mountain ski resort; they bought are like an hour from Appalachian ski.
I think you need to do a deeper dive on the prices because when I was there they had some seriously cheap prices for college kids and once a year a $5 day. Yes I snowboarded for $5
Someone has to explain to me what it means when JB says big resorts like Vail suck the life out of the sport while small resorts embody the love of snowboarding. Does it make sense? When you go snowboarding are you thinking about the staff and ownership, or are you focused on the runs, snow quality, terrain, views etc. it’s downright silly to compare small mountains to big ones. Would anyone ever choose a tiny resort over a big mountain if price or location wasn’t a factor? Common peeps! Unless if you are a pure parkrat how can anyone deny that big mountains are simply better. It doesn’t matter who owns them. Thoughts?
I think everything should be in consideration. I would say Arapahoe Basin crushes all big colorado ski resorts and their park is trash. The vibe of the resort is unmatched and how they foster the love for skiing and snowboarding is clearly shown just by how hard they push to extend the season. Small resorts and have incredible terrain, Loveland being another example. I would pick a day at ether of those two resorts over keystone just off the vibe. 🤘🏼 I look at the sport a little different them most though.
@@JohnathanBuckhouse totttttaly feel you on your comparisons. You can notice a difference at mountains like ABasin or Loveland. Just saying that just because a resort is small it doesn’t necessary mean they have more love for the sport. I went to Camelback PA after a big snow storm last year. They got 2+FT for the first time in so many years. People were so stoked they were up early to get in. Well, you really noticed how people who run Camelback didn’t give a hoot. They were underprepared, understaffed, and the staff there that day cared less about opening up lifts and services. Everyone on the mountain that day was disappointed, having only one lift and a few runs to get on after all that good snow. I think at the end of the day it’s about the people running the resorts, not the owners or corporation, who can create that loving vibe or lack of it. Keystone really does feel lame, but Vail itself is pretty dope and the staff cares about being the best they can be. They are super helpful and love pleasing skiers and boarders. I grew up skiing and then snowboarding the east coast …. And man, honestly it is wayyyyy better out west. We don’t have that big mountain thing y’all have out west. No big bowls. No white cap mountains with open space like Breck. No Cornices or chutes and the snow isn’t great. I’d love to change locations with you bro!!!!! Love where you are. Your lucky as hell! Keep going!!!!!!!
I snowboarded 30days last season at bear+summit. I lived in dtla, and the season before that I spent the season in mt baldy+snow valley. The bear mtns are def worth the extra travel time! food is also ok and fairly priced. my only compain is parking at bear+summit, as you almost certainly will need to take the shuttle at a satellite lot unless you are the first to arrive on weekends/holidays.
@@nocturnefps you’re probably right. I think I went to summit trying to meet up with him and he ended up at bear or vise versa. Long story short I missed him both days lol
App is small, great for my girls to start. Sugar, and beech are fun as well. Not bad for NC. We recommend snowshoe in WV. But we do have some great slopes for the east coast.
@@JohnathanBuckhouse on your way to snowshoe you should check out wintergreen resort in virginia its such an underrated park, i go there every year as an nc native
@@stevensonholt234 I know this is four months old, but as someone who worked at app and skied the other two, app is definitely the smallest, but sugar's management are assholes and they usually have the worst snow in NC. They spent all the money on new lifts, whereas app invested in snow guns, so they have equal snowmaking capacity even though app is way smaller. Beech is prolly the best though.
@@qwaszx3561 Thank you for the input! I ended up getting an Epic local pass, and just decided to buy day passes at the local NC resorts. So far I don't plan to visit sugar because they don't offer online ticketing and waiting in line at this weather+covid is just a no for me.
Having grown up in the Carolinas and now have lived in Colorado for the last 10 plus years .. you are smoking crack 🤔 $70 for 3 runs on ice where you wait 20 minutes in a ski lift like and 5 minutes from top to bottom on the hill … spend your money somewhere else

Their terrain parks are absolutely MINT, So incredible to see the parks they have on the east coast
There is lots of lodging in both Boone & Blowing Rock. They should have scored way better on lodging.
But the resort itself has almost no lodging

I have my first snowboarding lesson this Friday. Can't wait!!
Learned how to board a on App mountain. The park is pretty damn cool
Heck yeah man! Good place to learn
I moved to Ga from NY, and I snowboard in NC. I promise, I said the same thing about their terrain park, but I go to Beech most of the time.
Beech is so much fun

I love beech!
Said Appalachian wrong
Charlotte to app ski mountain is 15 minutes longer than from JC TEN and basically a straight shot.
Sick!
This is the resort Luke Winkleman grew up on
I learned how to snowboard here, this vid kinda makes me miss this place.
Same, i wanna go back now that i can ride really well
Easy decision here, I subscribed. Thanks for this channel!
good ole college ski resort
Right!
Going here this weekend, first time snowboarding but I’m still gonna send it.

I hope you are good! Lol 🤘🏼
Did you come back to the east coast dude?!
I will be in NJ Monday!
I love this place I go every year
snowboard community, should i buy an older burton board that’s slightly used from 2017 or a brand new yes snowboard from 2019. about the same price
It depends on the board. Buy the one that fits you best I say! The proper size snowboard is important 🙌🏼
JB, How about food here?
As a citizen of nc I can confirm that app is awsome
YES!!!
You give fair evaluations
Seen their menu had Black Diamond wings. That’s a bit funny considering they do not have any black runs. Just my thought. Lol
They have 3 black runs on their map… although I would agree they are like a blue out west..
His bitterness towards keystone is hilarious and warranted....I hope he never stops lol
😂🤣😂
