How to replace bandsaw tires CHEAP!

- Fixing a bandsaw with a broken tire. This happens a lot on cheap bandsaws where the tire rots out and falls apart. Who wants to spend actual MONEY to fix a cheap band saw? Not me! Here's how to do it cheap!
I just bought an older Delta band saw that came with the bottom tire missing! I immediately ordered 2 replacements, but I wanted to get it working now. I followed your advise and I have a great working band saw! Thanks for this video, and I chuckled about your Red Green reference.
Bought the very same saw 2nd hand a week ago. Already had to replace the blade. Tonight the top wheel tyre broke. Looked online for replacements, nearly shat my spleen at the price. I may actually love you for this!!
LOL!!
I watched you roll paint on your car and thought you remind me of Red Green. You're funny but you're right.
I just made a 12" froe out of an old heavy duty mower blade and a round collar I found in my scrap pile and I a piece of a broken shovel handle I cut off, for it's handle.
I've been wanting a froe for a long time, but I didn't want to pay $70-$100. for one. There are several things I like about my froe. It didn't cost me anything because I made it from stuff I had. It works. And last but not least I made it myself and now I know something new.
Love it! Steve Smith ( RED GREEN ) is a personal hero of mine. I read a part of his auto-biography where he said "he really wanted to succeed in life without ever having to conform" and I thought "this guy is the man".
This is a great idea, thanks for sharing. I have used leather before that worked for years also. Skived down the edges where it met and epoxied in place. This is much much easier.
Great idea and an easy fix. I thought the "what would Red Green do?" comment was most appropriate for the moment. Thanks for sharing
Steve Smith ( Red Green ) is a personal hero of mine. He had a quote in his biography something to the effect of......" I wanted to succeed in life without having to conform" .............Love that guy!
That’s a good fix, Dave. I have changed a few band saw tires. And smoothed a few out using a mill file and course sand paper, under its own power. Will remember this trick, and probably use it someday.
It works for me! I doubt it would be the best fix for a really good bandsaw, but this cheap one....it works fine.
I used duct tape on my 14'' Jet bandsaw upper tire in 2007 and it's still working fine, it tracks perfectly with zero issues.
In Michigan, that kind of repair is just an option...
In Alaska, that repair is a necessity.
Very good bush fix! TFS!
True!
Great Hack! I just did it to my Shop Series 9" and it worked perfectly. I bought some 1/2" vinyl tape for $2.49 and have 4 rolls left
Thats awesome! Its worked for me every time Ive used it.
What would Red Green do? Awesome - almost fell out of my chair laughing. Yes he would, he would definitely do this, but with duct tape.
You know it !
Hi mate you just fixed my 35 yeah old saw never thought I would get that running properly again just subscribed 😂💪😎
Awesome!
I didn't fancy trimming the excess tape whilst the wheel was turning so I cut the roll in half with a sharp blade. Works a treat. Thanks.
Awesome !!!
Sounds like a great fix, i will go give it a try tomorrow on my very old bandsaw.
Many thanks.
David in the UK.
Best of luck!
@@Bushradical It works great!! I made it my first job when i got to work this morning, the saw runs real smooth and cuts great now. All i need to do now is restock on plenty of insulation tape. This was a great tip, thanks a million!
I am really enjoying working my way through your excellent video's. Just watched another while eating my lunch.

Great fix ! Can't go wrong with tape! Have fun cleaning your garage....that is what i am attempting to do too...
Good luck with that! My garage never truly gets clean.
Thanks for sharing those tips and the make!
Thank you
My lower tyre just shattered like yours. Thanks for the video! I'll definitely try it out. Spare tyres are a bit pricey here. Oh and I have the exact same band saw.
Good luck! Thanks
I love it! My favorite RUclips channel. Thanks Dave. -Stephen, Ohio
Thanks Stephen! Now I feel like the pressure is on !
Thanks! Just brought a used bandsaw that had old tires..I ordered some but I am too impatient to wait, tried your hack..Been cutting pen blanks for the last hour!!!
AWESOME!!!!!
How are the tires now mate?
@@TheTrainstation I got proper ones now.
I never thought about something so simple like that. Cool
Thanks for checking the video out!
Just watched all your vids today, hope you keep going with more great stuff.
Thanks for all your comments! I appreciate it!
My B&B Drill powered Band-saw had the lower tire blow out and the first thing I thought of was " Use Tape". But of coarse I went on Google/Amazon/eBay...Etc to see if I could find a replacement. Nope. Then I saw this video.I guess it will work. Gunna Red Green it. AvE would be proud of us. Thanks.
Thanks
Just remember, if the women don’t find you handsome, then they should at least find you handy
Steve Smith , one of my personal Heros
Awesome job man. Thanks for sharing this. I am gonna use this.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the hack dude I just bought a 10 inch saw that has no tire I’m going to try this
Hope it works good for you
@@Bushradical it works mint
Great tip!! That might come in handy some day!
Thx Dave!
It came in handy a couple times for me....I thought maybe someone else might be having the same dilemma.
How long did that tape last Bush Rad ?
Cracking thanks mate
Cheers Dave I'll try that tonight.
good luck. Let me know how it works out
Good information never tried this before
Thanks LT.
hell to the yeah !!!. imma go try it on my delta shopmaster bs100 .. i aint paying $25 to $40 for a piece of plastic/rubber for a "entry level" saw... thanks brother...btw, unplug that thing when you working on it, bro.
Good luck. Take your time, it'll work just fine
I thought you would cut off a finger and the saw blade would gunk up with glue :-D But it worked! Very cool!
Its works...therefor its Good!
Liked, shared and commented
I did this to my old craftsman! I tried rtv silicone works for a while but peels off!
right on
Life hacks are amazing.
Works like a charm...just watch your fingers!
great tip man!
Its a hack o' necessity !
very clever Dave...Red Green, reckon he would be proud...lol...though he would probably have used "the handy mans secret weapon"...yup...Duct tape...keep yer stick on the ice...woods
You know it brother!!
would duck tape work ?
Yes it works.
Outstanding.... This is good to know, Dave ;-)
I hope you find it useful , its kept a couple band saws of mine running over the years. Thanks for the comment!
I tried this method before watching this video, could not keep the blade from popping off, I thought to myself "hey electrical tape will work"... The blade still pops off.... 😑😭
Question: would you use semi automatics against the US army?
Short Answer : yes if they come after my freedoms and my life.
That is a brilliant solution!
What would Red Green say??? If the women don't find you hansom, they should at least find your handy.
You know it! Red Green ( Steve Smith) is a personal hero of mine. I read his auto biography and he had a quote that really resonated with me....something along the lines of ....."I wanted to be successful without ever having to conform"....and thats just what he did!
The Misses and I loved the Red Green show!
So, I have to ask, what area were you born in? The misses is a whipple as well but she is part Native American. Just kind of wondering where that family tree is. lol
Thats awesome , tell the wife I said Hi! I was born and raised in central Michigan.
HAHAHA Red Green would cut down the wheel of his wife' car, and retrofitted the edge with alternating wire ties, you know, for more traction
LOL
Why not just taking the wheel of. Would've been easier I think😂😂
Does your wife see these videos??!!! I’ll bet she has a ton of insurance on you. At 7:00 turning that thing back on with the blade on & NO cover - yikes!! Be careful, Dave!!
LOL, no worries! Works like a charm
I beg to differ, Red Green would've used duct tape.
Right you are !!!! I just couldn't find duck tape in a 1/2" wide roll!
