To think prior to the Docs (Bastards of the Party, Made in America), The interviews SG/KM etc. There was and still is (articles/books written) that have a lot of wrong info.
The docs and Interviews have set somethings straight, still questions over certain origins but overall have cleared up some things.
This history is best documented by US and not Hollywood. So spread the word about these interviews.
If yall know OG's who have something to share, try to put them on if they're willing. A lot of older cats just don't want to share history.
Many are going to the grave with history that can rewrite the books, etc. Two years ago I sat in on a interview with some Slausons two Lil Slausons (78-79yrs old) and A Baby Slauson.
They ran down a lot of history, two months later one of the lil Slausons died. He would have been I think 79 or 80. So these men are dying.
Once they go that's it from Those ran the streets 60yrs ago to the 1st Crips/bloods. When they go that knowledge leave with them.

Mr.Lavender is most authentic and genuine individual you’ve interviewed, Kev. He’s a humble old spirit and seems to have a fairly good memory. If he doesn’t know something, he says he doesn’t. Many of the older heads either flat out lie, or even if they’re not certain, still answer something confidently , as if it’s fact.

Got hip late to these interviews but off top Jimmy Lavender interviews have been the most informative. I've been Rollin' 60's since the mid 80's when it first touched down in Shreveport, La. Its crazy how we knew some of that history too. Keep up the good work homie.

Funny how Mr. Lavender mentioned that gang banging in his time was a youth movement that people usually left by the time they reached their early 20's. How times changed quickly. It will never happen though. A lot of the O.G.'s are grandpa's now they don't want their grand kids to know what they did in the past. Basically, hiding it away and sweeping it under the rug. I think it would be one of the most Epic things in recent black cinema if you did a round table of all the brothers you have interviewed (from all sides) and just let them talk and ask them questions for about 50-90 minutes about LA history from the late 60's through the 80's. That would be one of the best documentaries of our time bro. Even to have young active dudes from the neighborhoods they started there to get their perspective as well. Man!
