- In this video we're going to show you how to install a perforated pipe french drain DIY the way contractors do. We're going to dig out a bunch of soil, haul all the dirt away, then we're going to fill that trench full of stone. We're going to put in some corrugated perforated pipe and we're going to create a path where the water can travel.

Wish they had a contractor in the South with the level of knowledge, experience and professionalism that FDM has. Another outstanding video. Thanks for posting.
No one would pay him
Diy!!
What part of the south? This guy is in Tampa youtube.com/@StormWaterDrainageSolutions?si=U_O9vC7FO4MJBXn8
Thanks for putting out this invaluable information. I live in southeast Louisiana where it seems we get rain every day. I plan to install a French drain (with your help) by myself this spring. I'm a 56 yr old lady and I'm addicted to your channel!! Love the way you teach the concepts and reason on your installation techniques and methods!
Just finishing my foundation footer French drain around my house on the lake today. That Michigan clay is no joke! Took all damn summer, but thanks to you it was a DIY. Thanks brother
Thanks for showing us how to do it right, particularly the white aeration pipes.
Hi. Ive never done this kind of work in my life but for some reason, the way you do edits, voice overs, your intros...even the way you encourage your team...made me want to watch from start to end. Excellent work and thank you for posting this man. GBY
Great job. This is how a professional system is installed.
Take a shot every time you hear "Double Punch Non-Woven Geo-Textile Filter Fabric".
Great video, BTW. I am going to be building one of these.
👍
I recently put in two French drains following these methods and they are working great! Mine are open french drains covered in rock not sod but I followed the advise of The French Drain man. It was a lot of hard work as I did it by myself but this system makes the most sense. I scoured the internet for information for a couple months before deciding what to do and in my opinion there is no one that seems to know what they're doing more than The French drain man!
Very nice job, as always. A lot of common sense is used in all your applications. Your crew is phenomenal!! They all work in a synchronicity that is so efficient. Thanks for all your videos. Great content & information.
Robert is the JP Morgan of the french drain business !
Thank you
Thank you very much this ie the most helful video even ever i have seen
Interesting concept of using pipe to medigate tree roots!
Nice info
the drain whisperer!
Right. Which he could come to other states.
Awesome 👌 🙌🙌 thx u
Im doing one now following your technique. 200 ft long all the way down my property. Without all that equipment, this is some MAN WORK for sure 😂. My back is screaming.

We need this in 60525! We have a huge yard and it becomes a pond! Even the ducks like it.
This will work 👍
Awesome video. Thanks for this. I have a sump pump drain line in back yard. It was draining somewhere i cant drain anymore. Its only gonna be going out 15 to 20 feet. My neighber ran a 5" pvc pipe with a french drain. What you auggest I do since its not a long run im doing?
Three-inch pipe would be fine. Four-inch pipe is a bit overkill, and I do like overkill.
First thanks for the informative videos. Very professional.
Second, I'm putting in a french drain in the back corner of my yard. Here in Alabama we have red clay then sandstone. What size gravel/stone do you recommend using? How much topsoil do you recommend putting on the gravel so grass with grow? I'll be ordering some of that fabric. Again thanks for the information.

Great video and great information, thank you. Are those Start Mats that you're using? My property makes this site look like a dessert!! : ) I appreciate all of the information you share, and the links to the supplies are extremely helpful as well.

I like how the Gentleman with the yellow knit cap does his rich man dance to pack the stone down...
😂
Thanks for the great video. Really impressive work. How much would you charge for that job ? Do you happen to know any contractors in north east NJ? Thanks again for
Our French drain systems typically run between 5k - 10k
Robert, I’m looking to have a French drain and buried downspout system combined into one trench. I have no storm drain to tie into and was going to use a pop-up emitter. Should I have one for each system? Thank you for all the videos.
Short answer, yes

Do you have any thoughts on how the drainage fabric and perforated pipe would perform in very sandy soil here in florida?
It thrives in those conditions.
Can you fill up trench with two blue tubes and three white for foundation drainage? Or does this only work for a French drain system. The foundation is 5ft underground and trying to find a way to load the trench up with anything besides the excavated dirt. Thanks

Can you link to one of your videos that shows exactly how your crew removes the sod in squares. They do such a good job and I always butcher it.

I live in North Carolina and am looking to install french drains from the down spouts around my house and threw some low spots around my yard. Do you sell the materials I would need to do this? I have the equipment and ability for a DIY job just want to make sure I am installing the best/right materials for the job that will last a long time with minimal problems in the future.
Our materials are the very best in the industry. You can read our Google reviews. When you hold our product in your hands and you see it in real life, it's almost hard to believe how well it's made, and it's made in the USA

Can your drive over a French drain like this?
Is a system like recommended for a gravel parking pad?
Bump.
👎
I purchased your complete system for our property. One question, we do no not have sod or grass, is it appropriate to put some dirt back onto the top of the fabric?
ruclips.net/video/mSfXGLlyIKM/видео.htmlsi=DcL35IMfRTwVeIok
When we grow grass on our French drains, water travels through capillary action down the turf roots to the stone in the French Drain System.
I live in SE Michigan. Where do you end up taking all of the dirt you remove from these trenches?
Landfill needs dirt.
Homeowner that is planning to install your system with dual +3 inch pipe french drain. Is there a rule of thumb for estimating the amount of 3/4 inch stone to order for the drain? Thank you
That's a really good question. Instinctively, I think you could go 40 feet on 1 yd³ of Stone.
So I have a similar issue across my backyard, but we don't have any sort of storm drain to terminate a french drain into. What would your recommendation be for that situation? Dig a well 4-6 feet in diameter and maybe 6 feet deep and fill it with stone?

I live in the country and have a 2 acre backyard that is clay soil and is wet. I have no drainage ditch or storm drain to connect to. How do I discharge the water? I'm surrounded by farm field on 3 sides of my property .
ruclips.net/video/oqTZ6H4UGf8/видео.htmlsi=OCDcIJfdwJAPJNS9
How close can I put a French drain to a leach field of a septic system? My leach field is in the lowest part of my yard in the front yard and that's where my drainage has to go to the baritch for my French drain.
There's too many variables. Every situation's different. I advise you never to go through your septic field system because you're gonna fill it up with water, and it's gonna be to full capacity, and then your septic system is going to back up.
What is a good rule of thumb when to use perforated vs solid corrugated pipe?
Solid pipe is for yard drainage with catch basin and downspouts. Perforated is for French Drain and leach lines.
Can you show next time how the ends tie in? White lines tie in or stub? Pop up end have a grate for drainage or the pop-up cap? Etc. Thanks.

Did you tie one of those pipes into the storm drain or how did you do that?
Yes, we tied the pipe into the side wall of the storm drain 2 feet down. I have a video up and coming where I show this. Stay tuned.

What type of warranty comes with your drain system?
Guarantee 💯% to work, and they always do.
Is 2 ft deep enough for a french drain system or is that too much?
We don't have to get that deep very often; it must be a long system.
What does air pruning the roots off mean? I dont understand

How does water stay in the pipe with all the holes?
ruclips.net/video/kqUNnc0j8Kg/видео.htmlsi=W5fjm722-sjyGRwQ
Where do you take the dirt?
To the landfill
Why did y’all use fine stone rather than the larger like your other videos?

Why so much pipe trying to diy my self will 2 pipes suffice ?

It's just an option
I'm getting ready to do.mine. bought all my stuff from French drain man. Great people. How deep is that trench??
Starts out 10 inches and ends up 20 inches deep
I count 3 downspouts on that home. And let’s assume the other home has 3 also .Thats a tremendous amount of water. Why wouldn’t you just tie them in and eliminate all the surface water? Planning on attempting this myself this Summer.

Rookie mistake.

You used to preach using large diameter round rock.
Why are you using pea gravel on this job?
Yeah, I had the same question.

If perforated pipe without fabric does not work, how do farmers lay miles of it to drain fields?
Many farmers will not use the sock. The percentage of farmers that are putting in a sock is 3%.
Difference between thevwhite and blue pipes tjs!

Why 3 white pipes?

Why aren't everyone doing it this way?
Because it's more work and cheaper if you don't do it this way. Plus the other guys can do less work charge the same price and then they can come back and service your French drain. There's even companies who offer service plans but if you have this guy put in your drain. it will never be serviced
You keep bragging that you use inch and a quarter to inch and a half cobblestone to go over those pipes. And according to the picture you're not using cobblestone
You really should not jump around. Watch the entire video and catch all the details.
I’m glad you said 4 inch, was wondering what kind to get.
