They played this song at my great grandmas wake. Her name was dolly and her husband Louis died 3 years before her and whenever I hear this song I just think of how much fun they were. They always sang this song to each other
Yeah. But for best song of the year,it came in second. To a sphincter lock called "People" by Babs the commie Striesand. I do NOT see why so many female vocalists copy that piece of crap.
@@StanBennet No one has matched The Beatles top 5 spot since April 1964 for holding 5 hits on top for 3 consecutive months. They hold this achievement until now. Beat that! 😁
hello, Dolly, this is louis, Dolly It's so nice to have you back where you belong You're lookin' swell, Dolly I can tell, Dolly You're still glowin' You're still crowin' You're still goin' strong I feel that room swayin' While the band's playin' One of your old favourite songs from way back when So take her wrap, fellas Find her an empty lap, fellas Dolly'll never go away again
I was 12 when this song came out. At the time, I was, listening to the music from the British invasion on CHUM radio in Toronto. Then my parents played Hello Dolly at a party, and what a surprise. I actually liked my parents music. This tune, by Louis Armstrong led me to take the trumpet in high school. Now, when I hear it, I think of Mom and Dad, and my music class. Awesome.
Ive always struggled wit likeing the Beatles really. Don't let me down is awesome....... I dunno,,, jus not my thing I guess.. I listen to wings greatest hits more often tbh.... I feel guilty sayin that cause I know how good they were but not to me... I see more through the fact that they were the first to do what they did, less that they were so good.... I dunno
This song was performed by him towards the end of his life and career, first recorded by him in December, 1963. He died in July, 1971. The song was a huge success during a time when his career was starting to slow, and ended up his last major hit. What a Wonderful World, a posthumously popular song of his, was recorded in 1967 and was a flop at the time. He played the song almost every day towards the end of his life until he had to be hospitalized. You can see why the song was such a huge hit. =)
He recorded the song on a fluke, as a session for $$$. He would never be caught dead recording this song. After the recording they went on tour and he noticed people in the audience kept screaming "Hello Dolly" as the song unbeknown to them had been released and became a hit. Eventually he asked his band what's up with "Hello Dolly" business and that is when one of them said that that was session they performed for $$$. Louis said, "Oh that POS!" Anyway they sent for the music so they could perform it on tour and the rest is history.
Story time for whoever happens to find this comment - I lost both of my grandparents last week. Michael and Dolores (known as Mick and Dolly by their friends). My grandmother passed on November 29th, and my grandfather followed just four days later. He was a big fan of jazz music and Louis was one of his favourites, so we played this at his funeral. I thought it fit nicely. As much as I'm not religious, it's comforting to think he's saying "hello Dolly" wherever he is now.
I had my name. changed from Frank to Louis in 1st grade in 1963. now I have something in common with this Legendary artist! because I was not talented in music I'm glad he was! Rest in peace Louis!
one of the best songs I ever heard . this is a smash hit. one day this world we live in will be a wonderful world. R.I.P. LOUIS. I KNOWN YOU'RE LIVING IN A WONDERFUL WORLD .
me da nostalgia, mi padre me recomendó a este gran artista, ahora que mi padre no está, me llegan las añoranzas y las ganas de abrazarlo, y que mejor que sea con estas canciones!!!
I'm 61 and counting, my first grade teacher, Ms Stewart, used to play this song every morning, when I was in the first grade...Every time I hear it it reminds of that time. "Hello Dolly."
Jerry Herman, born Gerald Sheldon Herman, passed away at the age of 88 on December 26th, 2019 in Miami, Florida... He was the composer of "Hello Dolly!", on May 3rd, 1964 Louis Armstrong's covered version of the song peaked at #1 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the previous 14 weeks the Beatles were at #1 with "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "She Loves You", and "Can't Buy Me Love"... Mr. Herman was nominated for the Tony Award five times, and won twice, for 'Hello, Dolly!' and 'La Cage aux Folles'... May he R.I.P.
so feeling this song tonight 🙏 thank you Louis 🌹 after years of feeling lost, all the challenges, tears, false beliefs and inner struggles - it's so nice to have me back where I belong! 🙏🔥🌟💗⚡🙏
When I feel like shit, when the world has beat on me a little too much, I listen to Dixieland, or Dixie-styled covers of non-Dixie tunes. Then, I feel better.
Louis Armstrong-totally awesome. I look forward to meeting Louis in Heaven when it's my time to go. Thank You LORD for allowing us to live and see and hear Louis in this world. I know he was the best at what he did , and it fills me with joy to see and hear Louis , always.Thank You LORD for Louis Armstrong. Looking forward-------- Ray Shuler
mi niñez fue altamente influenciada y acompañada de esta música. Sin duda recuerdos que me hacen reír y llorar, recordando a mi amado padre y es como sentirlo aquí junto a mi.
What is behind that characteristic trumpet sound in this song in particular? What trumpet, mouthpiece etc.? It wasn't always this nasal in other recordings. I love it.
They played this song at my great grandmas wake. Her name was dolly and her husband Louis died 3 years before her and whenever I hear this song I just think of how much fun they were. They always sang this song to each other
Louis knocked the Beatles out of #1 with this back in May, 1964.

He knocked the Beatles out of the No. 1 spot with this one...
After the Fab Four had just had three back-to-back #1s, and had spent 14 straight weeks at the top.

If I'm not mistaken this song came out around 1964-68 somewhere around there, years before he passed in 1971.
It was a huge hit it beat the british invasion including the beatles. He was on the road and had no clue he had a number one hit
