Outstanding commentary on NHL versus lime putty. I really needed to hear some of those points about pointing ( nhl preferred ) versus laying ( lime putty )+ wet, cold north.
Another fine example of how to do things properly. I've no time for people who do half a job, so your attention to the appearance and longevity of the finished job is commendable. Excellent work Mr Porter. Really nice work.
That looks absolutely great. The finished fireplace with the hearth and fire is going to be amazing and I’m really looking forward to seeing it. Great to see there are still top flight British craftsman at work. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Brilliant work mate I do the same down south. It seems the past couple years all the tall lime built chimneys in Hampshire are needing a full service, done 3 this year already and a few priced up. Little do many stonemasons in 250-300 years know, these may need another go over haha
Sounds fantastic Carl! Top marks for taking on such momentous jobs. I like the 250-300 year quip!😆 If it was a cement job then they would need a go over in 15-20 on a good job.
Very cean and artistic work

Haha that made me chuckle, the police chasing the tradesman

What was your mortar mix, and was it nhl3.5 ?
2: 1: 1, river sand, granite dust, NHL 3.5
@@dportercontracting9974would you use that same mix outdoors, with spring coming ? I will try the mix with granite dust. Looks superb.
Is that the finish that the client wanted 😢
This is how lime mortar is finished my friend. No smooth joints in traditional lime mortar.
Dog rough nipper 😮
