If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

Quick tip with a Circle hook if you set your drag very loose when the fishing starts running Tightened the drag and as you tighten the drag the fish will set the hook on its self also try a bait runner it’s great for catfishing

I like the interaction with the people you encounter. Also I read many years ago there was a warning about mercury levels in sea fish until a marine biologist pointed out that there is a natural high level of mercury in fish livers which, of course, we don't eat. I'll have to look this up now! Oh, Dude, Eat fish!!!!

Reggie...never try to set a circle hook....simply start turning the handle...the hook will set.
No need to try and set a hook when a hook set wont work...(especially with a circle hook....just turn the handle bro...you never miss another fish).

Circle hooks are great. There are so many ways to set the hook. Sometimes I have to remind myself if I should rip it back or finesse it when I switch from salt water fish back down to stream fishing. 😂😂

With catfish circlehooks all you need is just reel in a decent speed but no hook set needed i know its hard but thats how they work

There is a man made lake maybe like 20 miles from where I live. The only kind of cat fish there is channel cat and what I use for bait is raw shrimp. For a hook I use a nice quality 3/0 circle hook and for the sinker I go with a 1oz OR 2oz sinker depending on the waves on the water.
Once I started to use the quality circle hooks I never once had to set the hook. They hook them self's right in the side of the mouth every time.

A good way to tell if it’s a channel is in the rear half channel catfish have black dots everywhere in the back portions so black dots on the rear lower portion

Reggie caught a Channel Catfish, you can easily tell it’s a Channel because Channels have a golden side and blues have a darker blue top color.
You walked past one of the best restaurants in DC - Fiola Mare - when you were asking about good restaurants lol.
That looks like he caught a channel catfish to me if nobody answered by now. If it's that dark turning into yellow/tan and maybe some spots it's a channel. Blue catfish have a fatter neck/face; channel cats tend to look a lot sleeker. Grew up fishing in the Ozarks *shrugs* we have all sorts of catfish here - but blues stand out. The dark on top of a channel cat is also a lot darker than a blue. Blue's resemble a carp/shark in the face a lot more than a channel cat, that's how I can tell.
That's not the harbor! It's Georgetown. The harbor is on Maine Avenue. If in Georgetown again, go to the Thompson Boathouse and fish on the canal bulkheads.
@1rod1reel tat drop shot rig you pulled in that's the best catfish setup by far and in the Arkansas river here in Oklahoma we use 3-4 ounce sinkers with that same set up with circle hooks best setup by far it allows your sinker to hang up in the rocks and your bait to barley float off the bottom so when you get a bite the fish will pull your sinker out of the rocks try that setup sometime and I promise you will have good luck and if you want to catch massive flathead catfish try that set up with live bluegill it also works for massive 30-50 pound blue catfish

Don't set the hook with circle hooks..you will loose more fish than you catch.. Just reel, the hook will set itself. Happy fishing!
That's actually the wrong way to spool a spinning reel. You do it that way for baitcasters, but turn the spool on its side for spinning reels. If you get line twist after a few yards, flip the spool over and it should spool up without any twist at all.

Always coil found line and cut it with a knife so it goes into six inch or so lengths before putting it in the bin. Thrown away line causes terrible injuries to wildlife on municipal dumps.

You don’t need to set the hook when using a circle hook. Just reel in quickly to make sure it’s hooked good because you can actually lose the fish trying to set the hook so hard.
