1:03 ok, I know we get a lot of "declined repairs" here....but you WENT to a mechanic for noisy brakes (corrected). What did you expect the mechanic to do?? Shush them???

Sometimes it's a case of "Me/my buddy can do it cheaper" and they just want the mechanic to tell them what is wrong/needs doing, sometimes it's a case of "I just can't afford the cost of that particular repair right now" and sometimes it's a case of "The mechanic is just trying to scam me, I'll go somewhere else"
@@drunkenhobo8020 that makes even less sense to me. Why not just take it to that guy?? If the guy can replace the brakes and you can clearly hear that they are bad, why waste the time going to the shop?

@@ronblack7870 In my country, yes. Emissions check is part the mandatory inspection which is every two years. I actually don't know how much these things are standardized throughout the EU, but the EU likes to clamp down on emissions and safety regulations, so it's probably tightly regulated.

If the underside of your car looks bad, it's probably worse than it looks. I think some paranoid customers are like 'This shop is trying to sell me something' when their car is literally on fire and they came in to check a tire.
People get paranoid because there are too many shady shops that will try to rip you off. I just had my oil changed at a chain place, they told me I needed an alignment even though I had one done 6 months ago and haven’t hit any potholes etc. since.
Can you blame them? The number of times I've been told something is an immediate issue, get a quote, and then take it to a private mechanic I use instead and he either tells me that A: it's an issue (but not immediate), or B: he'll fix it for 1/2, the price is absolutely insane. Shops try to rip people off more often than not, and I can't really blame people for not trusting them and walking away. Nowadays if a shop tells me anything I make them show me.

And it would make it less easy to scam people/ there would be less uncertanty so people would get repairs more, and people would know how much a car costs to maintain and if they can afford it before buying.

Also my car is 15 years old, so any significantly expensive repair that I can't do myself is just not worth doing to save the car. I take care of it though and it hasn't failed me yet, so I really can't speak for the people who just grind their rotors clean off

I hate to tell ya, but we have mandatory vehicle inspections here in the US too. These people are either driving unregistered vehicles or they have a friend who works at a mechanic shop illegally mark their vehicle as passing inspection.
Love the videos. Truly amazing! These people are so unbelievable that they sound like fictitious characters written for a Hollywood comedy script! What's so incredible--and frightening--is that these incidents are true and the types of people who do this stuff live among us and are driving these death-mobiles on the same streets that we drive on! Whoa! Anyway, thanks again!😄
In the UK we have Polo mints, I believe in the States you call them Lifesavers. People often see how long they can keep them in their mouth without crunching them and seeing just how thin they can get them. I feel some people try the same approach with their brake rotors
About a year ago I took my 86 Pontiac Fiero in for tires and alignment. The front subframe was rusted out and the car was declared unsafe to drive. She's been sitting in the driveway since. In the past year we've gotten a new subframe and are prepping to get it installed.
Honestly, the scary part is the fact that some of those severe issues are just allowed to be let go… I feel like for a lot of these “customer declined repairs” scenarios, garages elsewhere in the world would probably be obligated to either refuse to let you drive off with an unsafe and unroadworthy vehicle or else notify the police if they didn’t have the authority to withhold the vehicle themselves.
i also would report it to insurance hot line to let companies know that this driver is totally responsible and to be honest i have declined repairs, but then arranged for scrap yard to pick up
After watching your channel for a while, I have determined that people should have to take an IQ test before owning and operating a car!!! And our government worries about gun safety. When you have people clueless out there operating 4000 pound weapons. 😮😮😮
Yeah, if your car isn't road worthy they can. Better yet should, especially if you don't have proper working brakes or your frame is so rotted that one bump would cause an entire collapse of the car.
@@battokizuyeah no way they should’ve let that one leave on anything other than a tow truck with the control arm and the one with the subframe completely rusted out
hey a new frontier for lawyers. the customer leaves and his car breaks and causes a crash. sue the shop as well as they somehow should have prevented it or did the repair for free.
I thought the same thing, because if something happens and a lethal accident is caused, the drive can be charged with negligent homicide... so how is the mechanic not allowed to report negligent maintenance and dangerous vehicles?
1:43 Luckily that ‘feature’ can be turned off in the settings menu for those of us who want to use our seatbelt 99.9% of the time AND still be able to immediately jump in the car and MOVE if the 0.1% emergent need arises.
@@dragonstalker21 That works if you never wear it but is annoying if you want to use it some times and not others. Usually if I'm on the highway I wear mine but usually don't when driving around town and making frequent stops since it's annoying and the chance of a very bad crash is low. I just unhooked the buzzer though and my car doesn't have an ignition interlock with seat belts.
@@redtra236You cannot protect yourself without a seatbelt driving at ”around town” speeds. Crashing at 30 mph is roughly the equivalent of falling from a three-storey building - or being rammed by a 3.5-ton elephant. Another way of explaining it is that you’d experience a force of 30 G. Moreover, chances of an accident in town is actually higher due to dense traffic. Buckle up. Always. Don’t become a statistic.
This shit is why I support yearly/semiannual vehicle safety inspections and the ability for the shop to force the customer to tow the car away instead of drive it away.
Can't tell about the US, but in Germany, there are safety inspections every 2 years. And when the car is bad to drive away, the shop has no authority to do anything about, what the owner does with his car - but they can simply call the police, who will prevent him to drive away, if it is a clear safety hazard in public traffic. And I am sure the same could be done in the US. In any case, I would get my ass secured by making a video of the car, the plate, and the owner saying, that he wants to drive away even though being informed, that it's not safe. Only then would he get the keys. If he doesn't agree to the video, what does he wanna do? Call the cops for the reason, that he wants to move a dangerous object through traffic?
Same in Denmark with the bi-annual safety and inviromental safety inspections, but here it’s possible to take of the license plates and declare the vehicle for unsafe for public road use.
1:42 it's stuff like that that would make me either disable that sensor or get one of those seatbelt dummy plugs. I always wear my seatbelt, but I put it on as I am leaving the parking lot I am leaving mainly because I'm lazy, but partly so it isn't restricting my movement as I am checking all around me getting out of the parking lot and having it dig into my neck, collarbone and arm, especially in GM vehicles with the seatbelt integrated into the seat and not adjustable.
I'm glad that my F-150 has an option to disable the seat belt chime for the driver's seat. I always wear my seat belt when I'm actually driving on the road, but I routinely have to get in and out several times before I even get out of the gate. The chime gets annoying after a while.
In the late 1980s, the government mandated supplemental restraint systems (SRS) - something that would automatically protect occupants in the event of a collision. This was supposed to mean airbags, but airbags back then cost about $1500 apiece. So a lot of automakers opted for seat belts which were permanently clipped in. The other end of the belt was attached to a runner on the top of the door frame. When you opened the door, the runner would travel forward pulling the seat belt out of the way, allowing you to get in the car. When you closed the door, the runner would travel back placing the seat belt against your chest. (The lap belt was still manual.) Very gimmicky, and very annoying. They were phased out as airbags came down in price.
@@solandri69 I don't think I've seen a single one of those in the last 10 years that hasn't been unhooked, which results in people just using the lap belt when they otherwise would have used both if it had normal 3 point seat belts. Also it is unsafe because it can trap you in the car if the door is unable to be opened.

@@99goat99sounds pretty eugenicist, bro. how about mandatory "do you know how to maintain your vehicle" tests as part of driver's license tests instead, with annual retesting?
Before I retired, I would have to walk most of the way to where I worked just to catch a bus. Since I had to be at work before the bus started running it was a moot point anyway.
Where I live in eastern NC we have annual safety inspections except for cars over 30 years old. Those cars don't have to be inspected at all! That's one reason why I drive old cars :)
Not all states have it and those that do don't always care about the efficacy of such inspections (Allowing people to get piles of scrap to still pass an "Inspection")

The amount of vehicles destroyed by rust until they are very dangerous is a very compelling argument in favor of mandatory yearly vehicle inspections. That's terrifying to me.
And that is, why germany has the TÜV. ALL Of these cars would not be driving in Germany. And you wouldn't be able to just refuse repair. Because they would keep your plates And call the police And you will loose your insurance ( Which means, police searches for you car and you get a fine. And you cant drive anymore.
The timing chain/tire problem illustrates what I've encountered with my own vehicles over the years: not checking the passenger side of the vehicle. Last year I was driving with a nearly-flat tire and didn't notice it because it was on the passenger side. Luckily another customer at McDonald's mentioned it to me. And with a previous car, the passenger door had started to rust but it was hidden by the dark color of the car and a sticker designed to deflect stone chips.
I got a flat passenger front just after I started driving, but didn't know until another driver pointed it out while stopped at traffic lights. I felt it as soon as I took off though, the wheel speed combined with weight of tread was holding it up.
How do you not notice something like a flat tire? My car has a 1 inch height difference between both front struts and it's driving me mad, noticed it since day one.
I'd just started driving, and couldn't feel it, and centrifugal force was holding the tread out, no shakes or wobbles. As I gained more driving experience, I could judge when my rear tyres went below a certain pressure.
I would give such a stupid car back to the dealer or permanently connect the wires in the buckle so that the car thinks, the seatbelt is always on. Can't believe freaking vehicles are taking away more and more decisions from the driver. I mean sure, with so many unbelievably stupid people out there, it's good to take away some decisions from them. But when it's only about yourself and not the safety of others, that should remain your decision.
@@Marc_Fuchs_1985If you get ejected from your car and end up a crippled having to receive a pension it suddenly becomes everyone's problem. So yes, I'm in fact very happy that they enforce the use of the seatbelt like this.

every time I watch this I get more and more scared. If we can regulate backup cameras and Blindspot monitors, why can’t there be mandatory annual safety inspections?
In Germany and in other countries there are annual safety inspections mandatory. In case there is any small problem you are not allowed to drive the car any longer and in Germany you have to come one more time and pay again after the car has been repaired in a shop. I live in Asia and have to do the inspection every year. There is no rust underneath my 60 year old Jeep. And I am happy not to have all these electronic things which are not necessary anyhow.

1:03 ok, I know we get a lot of "declined repairs" here....but you WENT to a mechanic for noisy brakes (corrected). What did you expect the mechanic to do?? Shush them???
It's not even a big job anyway. Rear rotors aren't that expensive and it's a fairly trivial fix so why even decline the repairs?
Although going by this channel, I bet he "knows a guy" who will do it cheaper... and it'll cost him even more when he has to take it back to the shop.

Honestly, the scary part is the fact that some of those severe issues are just allowed to be let go… I feel like for a lot of these “customer declined repairs” scenarios, garages elsewhere in the world would probably be obligated to either refuse to let you drive off with an unsafe and unroadworthy vehicle or else notify the police if they didn’t have the authority to withhold the vehicle themselves.
i also would report it to insurance hot line to let companies know that this driver is totally responsible

Luckily that ‘feature’ can be turned off in the settings menu for those of us who want to use our seatbelt 99.9% of the time AND still be able to immediately jump in the car and MOVE if the 0.1% emergent need arises.

🤬 that seatbelt alarm going crazy the whole way along the driveway after getting the mail!!!
I just buy a small part to buckle in the spot as I don't use my seatbelts.

Me too!!
Also it is unsafe because it can trap you in the car if the door is unable to be opened.

a lot of states do not. it is a state by state decision to have them. at least for the mechanical part of it. emissions may be different.

I'm still enjoying "Booger Welds" - Perfect description.
As I gained more driving experience, I could judge when my rear tyres went below a certain pressure.

every time I watch this I get more and more scared.
