Great to see you reviewing this vintage gear. The Sansui AU-101 was the first amp I bought when I was still at school. Loved it. Later went to a Rotel RX1010 receiver for a bit more power. My son still has the Rotel!
Adore these old Sansui. Owned most of these. My personal fave is the AU 505. Rounded, warm, detailed, grippy, magic and you get the airyness you mention. But to be honest they're all good.
Well done Michael for another insightful upload i`m having the same kinda deliberations myself over a Sansui 210 and a Sansui 441 i actually think the smaller 210 has the slight edge for a fully listenable experience but do love them both
The sound would change on both Amps put through different Vintage speakers ! Perhaps try them with a variety of speakers (vintage)... all would sound slightly different to one another ✅️
I did and just recently again tried both amps on 5 sets of speakers I have, 3 from the late 60's early 70's and ended up keeping the 101 and selling the 222, just felt the 101 sounded better a little more detailed with the speakers I kept. Always hard to pick one over the other and as you say speakers make some difference.

You are getting there step by step, sounds like once you get the led light sorted out you will be up and running. I know there is plenty of people that have are into getting a reel to reel so you videos will be of an interest to many as there good informational videos on RUclips about reel to reels

Thanks for the comment, yep the 505 is on my list, sounds like I need to get it sooner than later
Agree 100%
I've got the 222 - went noisy last week, costing a bit to get the transistors replaced as we speak. It's a great amp though.

From the three digit series I am curious about the AU-555 but they would be around 500 used
Me to, but a bit pricy for me and my channel as things are at the moment. but I suppose I might come across one some day
Have to say that I prefer the look of the Au 101 Michael, the wood reminds me of my friend Trev's Akai AM- 95 Reference amp.

Between the 101 505 and 222 which has most airy sound ?
I have not got the 505, but the 101 has more airy sound than the 222. The sansui 331 receiver would be another great one for an airy sound to
