Cool analysis however ruclips.net/video/GApVExtxUiA/видео.html But seriously great video you hit all the points perfectly on why war in the pocket should be treasured
I really underappreciated this as a kid but I always remembered "Hey Al, I'm most likely going to die, but whatever happens, don't hate the Gundam pilot, and don't go hating the feddie soldiers. Because they're like us, you and me, they're just people simply doing what they think is right, that's all. I know that it's hard but try not to hate them."
War In The Pocket is one of the best UC series outside the "Main Cast" story. It's one of my favorite and most suggested to those interested in Gundam, particularly in UC along with 08th MS Team and 0080 Stardust Memory.
Totally agree, it's the most heartbreaking one and the one solely about the horrors of war and it's told in the 6 episodes it needed. And the dramatic irony is just perfect because now we are just seeing a car crash slowly and steadily coming and we can't do nothing.
I had been panning to do a video on 0080 for years, but you beat me to it. I’m so happy this show is getting the love it deserves. So underrated. ESPECIALLY compared to the mainline gundam titles
The ending song of the series really hits you in the feel too. Seeing those photographs in the end credits after watching the series really made me feel a bitter happiness as well. When I was a kid and watched it, it didn't hit me the same. Now as an adult revisiting it decades later, it truly is one of the best Gundam stories out there.
For me, my favorite Gundam show has to be the MS 8th Team. However, I see where you're coming from. War in the Pocket was the first time for me that I got to see how things are on "the other side", i.e. Zeon. I think this show perfectly depicts that there are always at least two parties to a war and that suffering occurs on both sides. Needless to say that this story was delivered in a very captivating way as we got see how a child expierences the attrocities of war. Also, War in the Pocket had the Kaempfer, the most amazing one-eyed Mobil Suit. Keep up the good work. I tend to follow a lot of gunpla youtubers, but less people who talk about the Gundam universe itself. Glad I can add one more to the list now. I'm looking forward to more.
This series stood out to me as having the perfect opening that gets you hooked , the character development is amazing and hilights how thoughtful character arches can make these shows more believable as a distant future and not rub you as clearly a mecha amine... It hooks you with the opening battle, you stay for the diverse characters presented and by the time you get to the last episode you truly see how it's the character development that makes the mech battles that much more impact full as well as not having as many mecha fight scenes in the series
Great video definitely deserve more views! There are so many great moments packed within just 6 episodes. But my favourite are the parts about the time spent between Al and Bernie before the final fight, with the opening song playing in the background. The song itself is quite a happy and joyful song with lots of upbeat tunes. On the other hand Bernie knew he will probably never win a battle with a Gundam with his Zaku and newbie pilot skills, but he still never stop smiling to Al. The plot and the music choice seems contradict with each other but it actually highlight the tragedy. This writing style can also be found with the dynamic between Al and his classmates friends. In the beginning they are all like 'oh cool I got fancy badges and have family working for the amy!' Then in last few episodes we got scenes show Al now have completely different feelings about war. Al's friends completely misunderstand him when he cried at the front of the destroyed school is really some great usage of this writing style. To me 0080 is a living proof that we don't need 50 episodes to make some great character development or grant plot that blows my mind. I'm truly thankful to all who put efforts into making this manga and anime~
I remember a video strategy game about Gundams and other robots that we used to play perhaps on Nintedo or Sega that has all the Gundams and many of the Zeon characters. In that game they included both Chris' RX78 NT-1 and Bernard's MS-06 Zaku, in that game they were on the same team controlled by the player. Perhaps in some alternate ending Bernard did not die from the fight and survived the ordeal.
My first UC gundam series i watched with my partner. Great introduction to the series proper (my first was G gundam). Al changes a lot, just seeing him joyfully destroy buildings in episode 1 compared to crying and wortying about his school in the last 2 episodes is heartwrenching. Its interesting how Bernie's Zaku gets those emotive scenes in nature yet the Gundam Alex is contrasted more as the threatening weapon it is
For an entire franchise that's goal is to sell toys of weapons of war, War in the Pocket is the closest Gundam series got to denouncing war itself. Other series try but I think there's a dissonance between making gundams look cool and badass and not glorifying violence and war. It's hard to say somethings bad while also making it epic and awesome...
I think unicorn is my favorite I love how the char clone thinks that getting rid of everything won’t make it worse but it would still be the same and I love the protagonist who doesn’t want to kill and play it safe but in the end killing has to be done and there’s more things but this is a close second
I love war in the pocket. My fav used to be 8th MS Team but I think now its Thunderbolt. Im a simple man I do base my favrioutes off the cooler fight scenes and I know that thats probably a diservice to gundams message but I cant help it the fights are just too damn cool.
F yeah it is, and for me, the prime candidate for testing the waters for a live action gundam movie. Not many MS combat required (not as taxing on the CG budget) and character and heart driven.
I was scrolling through your gundam review series but I don’t see 08th ms team is there a reason why you skipped that one in particular? I just finished war in the pocket and would love to hear your take on the 08ms team!
As of now, this is the second War in the Pocket video I’ve made, and this is the only “redone” Gundam review video, so I haven’t really done any other series yet, but I 100% plan to do 08’th MS Team. Just thought that a War in the Pocket video was a good start to the New Year :)
Whenever someone asked me which UC gundam series they should start watching (after the typical starter series from alternative timeline like IBO or 00) I tell them to start on 0080 first. It's short, conceited, and pretty much tell you what the Gundam series is all about.
Universal Century is by far the best timeline, outside of it the only series that I've seen and enjoyed are G Gundam, Gundam Wing, and Iron Blood Orphans
Not really. 0080 is far and above better at story telling than any other entry into the franchise because it's focus isn't selling toys, it doesn't have Tomino's Newtype silliness (don't send me to Ideon for my insolence Tomino-sama), and isn't full of beam spamming and pontificating which happens a lot in Gundam. That doesn't mean other entries aren't great...but 0080 doesn't have the baggage a lot of Gundam shows have.
Cool analysis however

LMAOOO
Congrats to being the best comment haha
I hate that I clicked it and knew exactly what it was gonna be
One of the things that makes the ending hit a bit harder is knowing just how bad the rest of the Universal Century is.
I mean this is the tamest uc series
Huh?? How? 08th MS team straight up has a happy ending. How is this the tamest?
He means that the future isn't great for little Al
Before clicking on this video I asked myself "How much did 0080 impact me?"
I then hear the music at 1:07 and feeling like I'm about to start crying.
Gotta set the mood somehow ;)
I didn’t feel anything.

I agree with everything except Stardust Memory I thought that one was pretty mediocre I finished it feeling nothing
I wouldn't suggest Stardust Memory to a newbie. Its good, but its best experienced until after you watch both 0079 and Zeta at the very least.
@@shadowofthenorthstar989 Stardust Memory is God tier mecha design and fight, shid tier story.
@@whiskeycorridor90Well you have to watch Stardust Memory before Zeta because it's a prequel and it's set up the event of that series.
I don't think I ever want to rewatch War In the Pocket. That last episode was just way too heartbreaking.
In my honest opinion it's not just the best gundam show but also one of the best anime ever made. Impacted me really deeply

Do it!! RUclips needs more Gundam creators!
@@CheemsBased I took your advice, and spent 40 hours on the most intense deep dive of any Universal Century Gundam video ever lol. Hope you enjoy it!
There a small manga that follows Al and him still remembering what has happened. And him eventually saying he is wanting to go to Earth.
I actually just found out about that recently, it’s really nice!
Can you tell me the title of this manga? I would love to read it
The ending song of the series really hits you in the feel too. Seeing those photographs in the end credits after watching the series really made me feel a bitter happiness as well.

it has the Hy-Gogg in it, so its automatically great
It has some of the best suits bro like all of them are bangers

If you take out the gundams and made it a movie, this totally could've been a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli movie.
I remember a video strategy game about Gundams and other robots that we used to play perhaps on Nintedo or Sega that has all the Gundams and many of the Zeon characters. Criminally underrated channel. Great video. 🫶

It's was a super 08ms ishk fight I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised how the fight went against the Gundam
It's pretty fucking good. Not sure if it's THE best. But it's up there. It has, however the best opening scene in the enitre Gundam franchise.
08th Ms team is my favorite by a mile. I like how it wasn't cruel for cruelty 's sake. That people got to live after the hell of the one year war.
The title to this is debatable but to each his own
Honestly this hits hard
Yes, It is. Bernie's patch have more character development than most anime character.
I love war in the pocket. My fav used to be 8th MS Team but I think now its Thunderbolt. Im a simple man I do base my favrioutes off the cooler fight scenes and I know that thats probably a diservice to gundams message but I cant help it the fights are just too damn cool.

War In The Pocket is the best Gundam and I’m happy to see that someone agrees
I just finished the series and WOW it hurts 😢. One of the best with origin and thunderbolt for me.
My favorite is bordering on a tie between 08 Ms team and Gundam 00
I like image that al got a zaku 2 kai and maybe mix it with other zaku like moblie suit parts and joined aeug afterwards to honor Bernie
Fun fact that Al's Voice Actor is the same as Ridhe Marcenas from Gundam Unicorn.
I love this series
In terms of characters and development, I’m inclined to agree. In terms of alltime favourite UC story, I’d have to say Thunderbolt. Ya like jazz?
I know this is gonna sound stupid to a lot of people but I think to top off all the dramatic irony, I believe Bernie was also a new type
08th ms team is another series I like besides 0080 war in the pocket.

But yeah, I’ve done an 08th MS team video around a year ago but I don’t really reccomend watching it haha
It’s really old and crappy
Will definitely look forward to it! I don’t understand how your video and channel don’t have more views
Thanks so much for the support!
I would lowk fiddle with Zeon weaponry too
Whenever someone asked me which UC gundam series they should start watching (after the typical starter series from alternative timeline like IBO or 00) I tell them to start on 0080 first. It's short, conceited, and pretty much tell you what the Gundam series is all about.
It take place during Christmas so its a Christmas special
Because Solid Snake Aka David hater is burnie
I think only turn A can be considered on this level
You just had to end the video with THAT line…
Universal Century is by far the best timeline, outside of it the only series that I've seen and enjoyed are G Gundam, Gundam Wing, and Iron Blood Orphans
my favourite is char Counterattack
Im still crying for this Gundam ova.... War is a shit! 😞
Bruh now I’m sad
Yes
0080 is my favorite UC Gundam story. It’s tied with Turn A as my favorite series.
I watched it and it was boring as Fucc0ckkk, so many better one's out there.
I still prefer zeta
I like everything UC related minus ZZ and Unicorn
Yeah it's great but it's not the best imo.
The video hasn't even premiered and he's already wrong.
To each is own, but war in the pocket is a really good gundam story.
*laughs in Zeta* I can understand where he is coming from though like I think as a stand alone story War in the Pocket is one of the best out there.
@@DrForrester87 you clearly missed the joke
@@echs457 ...is this a cheems thing?
Most overrated series ever imo but I’m ready to have my mind changed let’s watch this vid
Personally, I'm more a fan of Zeta and Char's Counterattack as the greatest Gundam anime ever made, but 0080 alongside 0083 comes rather close.
