      I've always been a BMW fan, putting them at the top with Audi a close 2nd and MB 3rd as far as personal preference. Then I drove a friend's 2008 E350 and couldn't believe the way it felt. It handled like a sports car and had great mid range acceleration. Interior wise, I think Audi has the nicest most exquisite dashboard and leather interiors. Performance/speed wise I think it's a toss up between the Audi S8 and the BMW M5 when it comes to my top picks. But you're totally right about the latest cars when it comes to styling, the curves of the MB really do look more spectacular and jump out at you more than the BMW's which have more slanted, less curved lines than MB. The exterior lines of MB I now think look the best, but when it comes to interior, I think the BMW'S look richer and more elegant. Keep up the great reviews sir!

    It's rare a modern BMW can beat a Mercedes. The S Class coupe is the best car for anywhere close to that price.

    • @christopherwalker6056
      @christopherwalker6056 5 лет назад

      Huh? M5, M3, M6 and m4 can beat every MB except for maybe the MB SLR. 😁 I'm sorta kidding around, I realized you're not speaking in terms of 'racing'. As far as what you're saying though, I don't know, I'd say it's pretty close.

      @@christopherwalker6056 BMW, with a few exceptions stopped making great cars after the E39 M5. Mercedes has its own issues but BMW has really moved away from what made the brand special. Fake exhausts, fake M models, lackluster interiors. The 8 Series is a great car, but its can't compare to the S Coupe which possibly excepting the new Bentley Continental GT is one of the finest GT cars ever made.

    I think the design of the BMW 8 series looks better than the S-Class....looks more fun to drive (BMWs are indeed usually more fun than MERCs)
    Those new tail lights from BMW on the 8 and 3 series are ridiculously hot...2020 4-series (baby 8-series) which will be unveiled sometime this year will probably adopt those same tail lights. I saw an 8 series yesterday and i was impress; looks better in person than on videos and magazines.
    With that being said, I'd take the S-Class over the 8 Series. It's classier and i prefer its conservative look. The 8 looks rebellious...fast race car like, which is fine....but if i needed that, i'd walk straight to the the nearest Porsche dealer to worship the 992

    Another great video Mr Wayne! You’ve made some interesting points here I do think Mercedes is generally the better of the two but I also agree with the fact that bmw seems to be going in a completely different direction with their design language. I think subtlety is the key for bmw maybe a future compare contrast design language would be a good idea for a future video? And I’m super excited about the new Mclaren GT looking forward to your review how do you think it’ll stack up against the Bentley continental? Also the updated GLC 300 4Matic super excited for your review as well! I don’t understand why they haven’t changed the infotainment and updated to the two screens like they did the New CLA 35 but I look forward to hearing from you sorry about the long winded comment lol I love your videos and cars lol great job again loving the content

I'd still take the S63 coupe with that fabulous green exterior and saddle drown w/that timeless walnut wood interior AND whip that M850 anytime...anywhere! Crazy cause I just saw an S Coupe last night in white under gas station lights! Photographs don't even do it justice- this thing was GLOWING. I HAD to stop and stare. But seriously we knew BMW was fakin when they failed to use their V12 on the new 8-Series. V12's give cars a type of credibility casting a halo across the entire range. For decades in the case of Mercedes' V12's. Up here in Maryland we like the understated aura of Mercedes over Bentley. Personally I say that R230 SL is the best convertible experience on the planet with it's hushed aerodynamics and autobahn bred interstate dominance.

  • @benagoat8400

    I see these in two different classes. They might be cross shopped but I can't see them competing with each other(think the price of the 8 might max out where s class coupe/convertible starts) BMW 8 seem more closer to a SL Benz (just by size it look, price point, etc) The s coupe seem more closer to Bentley or Dawn.
    Think BMW might of held back because of the luxury brand they have position above them. Benz don't have that limit/consideration when making a vehicle.
    Won't fault anyone for getting either.

  • @geezer2tech154
    @geezer2tech154 3 года назад +2

    You make some good points. The manual windblocker on the BMW cabriolet is an embarrassment in a car costing over $100,000. IMO, any convertible with an electric top should come with an electric windblocker, otherwise what's the point of the convenience of having an electric top? I think you have to compare car to car, though, and not class to class. The MB S560 sedan would be in the same price range as the BMW M850i Grand Coupe. Here, I think you are comparing a luxury cruiser to a sport tourer. Your review can be summed up with your closing statement "That 0-60 time doesn't matter all that much to me." BMW put the money in the engine, MB put the money in the interior refinements. I do think BMW set themselves up for disappointment, though, by moving the coupe from the 6 series to the 8 series without adding any superiority over the 7 series.

      I wonder why I salivate over 600HP when 400HP is more than enough? I'm guilty (and have never been on any race track at all), but it gets a little nuts to have a car you can use only 30% of without losing your license. I saw a hot Camaro doing the same 5mph I was stuck in on I-95. Sad, but true. I'd bet I was more comfortable (less miserable).

    You're comparing apples to oranges. The s-coupe is meant to be a luxury barge in coupe form. The 8 Series is meant to be a sports car in luxury form. That's two very different things. You're just viewing them from a luxury barge perspective. The 8 series is in the Aston Martin segment, it always was, BMW said from the beginning that it's a sports car first, then a luxury car after. It's understandable that people want to compare it to the s-coupe but it's just not in the same segment. The 8 series is a dynamic marvel while also offering incredible comfort and luxury. And in my opinion, the 8 series looks better on the exterior while the s-coupe looks better on the interior. But in terms of driving capability, there is no comparison whatsoever.

    8 series is overpriced because it’s actually a 6 series, and BMW know it. They’re very clever at marketing. Seems they enjoy taking money from customers more than they enjoy making good complete cars nowadays. Some people argue that BMW begins each project thinking about all the vast amounts of money they can take with that car rather than thinking how they should build a good car that would actually be loved and eventually sell loads and make them loads of money.

    BMW made a mistake trying to use 8 series to compete Porsche 911. Mercedes rightly made S-Class Coupe to compete Bentley Conti GT, Aston Martin DB11. Audi is predicted to come soon with A9 (luxury Coupe version of A8) and Porsche are also predicted to come soon with Panamera Coupe. So 8 series/M8 is going to be left in the middle of nowhere unable to truly compete effectively in the segment of Porsche 911, Aston Martin Vantage, Audi R8 etc, and also not truly able to effectively compete in the segment of S-Class Coupe, Bentley Conti GT, Aston Martin DB11, and other offerings coming from Audi and Porsche. But maybe that’s the way BMW wants it.

    To compare the BMW 8 series to the Mercedes Benz S-class coupe is like comparing a yacht to a big cruise liner.
    They are both fancy boats, but they are completely different.
    The Mercedes S-Class coupe is a smaller version of its flagship luxury car, so certainly it is good in luxury and ride comfort.
    The BMW 8 series is designed specifically as a GT performance car with lost of tech and is design to take on the likes of Porsche, but with more tech and comfort.

    No shade on my brothers, but most of the comments on this thread are black guys, it's automatic that blacks prefer Benz over BMW, cause it has always been deemed the best, and blacks have always been known to bury themselves in debt behind these cars. So, when bring realistic about the the two Titans, I really can't go with black guys, they will bury themselves in debt for a car name brand

      I won’t say whether you’re wrong or right, but I will say that your comment is coming from left field! We’re just having a lighthearted conversation, not some deep philosophical debate about the financial plight of the modern day person of color, specifically the men. Relax...😩🤔😏

      demarkus love Well, hopefully it made you feel better, having done your daily PSA. I prefer BMW in general, so not ALL the commenters choices can be ascribed to your stereotype. Anyway...

      You said that it’s automatic that ALL blacks (guys) prefer MB, so I’m letting you know that not ALL choose MB. Go read your own post.

    HEY! CUT THAT (25%)I CAN TELL BY TONALITY & INFLECTIVE HESITATION! U CLEARLY DON'T KNOW WHAT U R TALKING ABOUT!THE RELATIONSHIP OF CHARACTER LINES NOTE [EMPHASIS] ON RELATIONSHIP HAS A LOT TO DO WITH MATURING PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN RATHER THAN SOME NOVEL LINE CHARACTER CHANGE! WHICH THE JAPANESE MADE HEAVY USE OF AS A REFRESH VISUAL! BUT THEN THE BUILD QUALITY SUFFERS! SINCE MANY FACTORS ARE @ WORK IN GEOMETRIC RELATIONSHIPS NOT JUST WIND! SO THE DISCIPLINE OF STRONG CHARACTER RECOGNITION REMAINED ONLY WITH A VERY FEW STRONG COMPANIES [BMW] WAS ONE OF SUCH, ALSO VERY RICH IN IT'S HERITAGE OF DESIGN! AFTER WHEN IT WAS BANNED FROM MAKING ENGINES SURVIVED PRIMARILY ON DESIGN SERVICES FOR MANY YEARS AND IN THE PROCESS CREATED A LOT OR MANY OF INDUSTRIES FIRST! IS MORE POPULAR AND HAS BETTER BRAND RECOGNITION PICKING OUT A COMPARATIVE MODEL THAT THE [MERC.] CONVERTIBLE MAY B BETTER LOOKING THAN IS NOT ENOUGH TO SAY THAT [MERCEDES] IS A BETTER LOOKING CAR THAN A [BMW] ACTUALLY IT'S THE OTHER WAY AROUND! [BMW] HAS MADE MORE BETTER LOOKING & RECOGNIZED MODELS! THAN MERCEDES! OVER THE YEARS FOR A VERY LONG TIME! AND STILL DOES!

    BMWs are german Toyota Camrys. Mercedes interior is almost like a Bentley.
