I'm considering QM2 for next year, and have just found your video on here - really useful to help pick the room actually - thanks (albeit 4 years later!!)
Glad it was helpful! We love QM2, have been on her twice and will one day get a transatlantic in!
Just booked my 14 night back to back transatlantic for next year... Also deck 5, a little further along the deck from that one...! Thanks for the video! I have sailed before, and also in a sheltered balcony before, but not since the remastering!
It’s so funny to see how far you’ve come… great tour, I love the formal presentation of it all lol 👍
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video guys - thanks. Have cruised on the Elizabeth and Victoria (on the QE for Christmas this year), but haven't tried QM2 yet. On the list for the next year or so's holiday plans. Always go for a balcony cabin.
I love this!! The editing is fabulous!! Love the voice over and everything. ☺️⚓
Emma Cruises thank you :)
Yes
I really enjoyed the cabin tour. The sheltered balcony looked terrific.
Thank you!!
Nicely put together video! Great commentary, camera shots and background music. Thanks for posting
Thanks for the great feedback 👍
You two sweet and lovely lads. Thanks for the tour.
rd3ster thank you so much 👍🏻
Terrific presentation , really helpful. Many thanks guys!
Colin Jones Thank you for leaving a lovely comment 👍🏻 we’re glad you enjoyed it and more importantly found it useful.
Brought me back! Exactly the same as my cabin from 2016, which I think was 6230! Can't wait to go back. I would leave my balcony door open all the time - which freaked my cabin attendant out but I loved the ocean sounds. It was December, so it did get cold - but I loved it!
Kathy Melchin , yes, this is what I would do to. I like fresh air overnight. Can you open the window in these cabins or on the sheltered balcony ?
You can open the door if you have a balcony cabin but if you have an outside cabin you can’t open the window. 👍🏻 hope this helps.
That was really well done.
I've just booked one of these to sail to NY in July. Can't wait!!!! Thanks for the preview :-)
Ohhh have a fab time, it’s a great choice 👍
That looks seriously so lush 😍
kimspooders sure was 👌🏻we loved it!
Loved this tour. It satisfied my curiosity. That's definitely the cabin for me!
These are fantastic cabins 👍
Great video! Enjoyed seeing the he cabin
Tips For Travellers Thankyou Gary!
That was amazingly done well done and the queen Mary is my favourite ocean liner
I live in Belfast so there is a lot to choose from!
Thank you! Yeah, she is the best!
The reason you don't have a lot to choose from, is because the the Queen Mary is the only ocean liner in service lol.
Queen......
WOW for your first effort at a talkie it is great !! YEs true the Microphone problems were a nuisance but very well over come . I thought Gavin you were quite natural on Camera . If i had not ever been on a cruise your video would have been excellent in explaining a cabin . Well done guys we loved the video , maybe more talkies soon .
Lawrence king thankyou for your positivity! I was certainly out of my comfort zone but I’m sure over time it will become more natural. Hopefully we’ve learned from our mistakes and the sound should be clearer next time too🤞🏻all the best, Luke 👍🏻
Good video. Enough livable space and because of the sheltered balcony, a little bit more affordable than higher-end balconies.
Hmmm. That sounds like a savings of drink money 💵 ☺️
Hahaha, definitely more savings for drink & the sheltered balconies are a lot bigger that the ones higher up
Well done guys looks a very comfortable cabin!
Paul and Carole Love to Travel it was a beautiful cabin. We did have a nosey around some insides and a queens grill stateroom on disembarkation day might do a mini video on those in the future- as it will probably be an inside next time
@@CruiseMonkeys Yes you should cabin tours always go down well!
Very interesting . I’m going in April
judy cook we hope you have a fantastic time! Thanks for the comment
This is the room I want.
It’s really spacious the balcony was huge, and the sheltered balcony cabins are cheaper than the ordinary ones found higher up the ship 👌🏻
@@CruiseMonkeys I was gonna ask... how big are the balconies on deck 8?
Excellent video guys! You must do more Talkies!
BritsOnAShip thanks guys! Was a bit awkward at first as it’s not something I felt comfortable doing, but I’m sure we’ll get used to it. Was a shame we didn’t set our mic up properly in the first place because the voice over thing makes the video look like it’s been translated 🙈😂
Thanks again for the video. We are actually booked in the cabin next to this in July and cannot wait?
Have a fantastic time!
That is a beautiful stateroom, minus the shower curtain. I wasn’t sure about a sheltered balcony; however, it is a decent size and you still have a nice view. I’d have to invite 6 friends to afford that room though, lol, so maybe I’ll settle for a solo room. Thanks for sharing this room tour. Cheers!
The sheltered balcony cabins are on decks 4,5&6 in the main hulk of the ship, these, even though bigger than the balcony cabins up top in the main superstructure are cheaper. If memory serves me well, we paid about £300 each for this 3night Cruise. If the ship is a real pull and your over Europe you can do (I know your not keen on the idea of 2 nighters) 2 night cruises from Southampton to Hamburg inc flight back to the U.K. for about £189pp (inside stateroom) the clingy curtain wasn’t too annoying as the shower itself was quite roomy.
just booked for a CHRISTMAS cruise and I cant wait
Wow! That will be amazing! The ship will be all dressed from Christmas too!
@@CruiseMonkeys I am terribly excited it's my first Cunard I just had my first ever staycation and think O might have been bitten by a cruise bug!
That’s brilliant we were the same we absolutely loved our first cruise then on/during our second - which was QM2 back in December 2014 we decided to start filming our cruises!
Going next year 2020 cannot wait
This comment aged well.
Yup! We thought we’d be cruising in December (2020) 😂 it’s felt like forever!
@@CruiseMonkeys I’m finally going on my cruise next May. And then I will sail on a ship. 😏
Nice to see the size of their cabin and just how big the balcony is.
Wellard smith we thought it was huge! Great for transatlantic crossings 👌
@@CruiseMonkeys is it also regarded as obstructed balcony.
The obstructed balconies are higher up and have lifeboats obstructing the view. These are sheltered balconies. They are more expensive than obstructed view balconies.
@@CruiseMonkeys your informativeness is appreciated.
The QM2 is a great ship and likely the best currently in service but my taste is a little older like a classic liner... Nothing currently in existence today 😑
Gabriel Miller we completely agree! Qm2 is one of a kind and by far our favourite ship of all time, we’re just about to upload a full ships tour of her so watch this space 😁
Great vid guys - loved the music. Upbeat - in a happy mood now. Thank you. How much was your trip?
john kean thanks! Glad you liked it! Think we paid 306pp we originally booked an obstructed balcony but got upgraded because we selected the upgrade if possible option
@@CruiseMonkeys Lucky guys. I have done 2 sailed from Venice and back last September. This February sailed from Dubai. Hooked now. I live North Cyprus l take my two Turkish friends with me. I applied twice for UK visas for my 2 friends ($200 each so $800 why $ and not £?) and the UK Customs declined so we can't do _QV or QM2_ (they go from Southampton.) I had NO TROUBLE getting my 2 Turkish friends visas: Shengan Visas for Venice and UAE visas for Abhu Dhabi (Muscat a visa wasn't needed.) We had a spectacular trip. I can understand why the UK Cunard cruiseships are empty if the UK Customs are so strict. Many people are in my position: live abroad and have foreign companions with whom they wish to travel. I am at a loss as to why my 2 Turkish friends got turned down for visas by the UK who are allies of Turkey with an insulting standard imprersonal letter to boot. Further puzzled why they want $. I do know thousands here apply yearly for UK visas and get turned down. That little office in Nicosia must rake in a plum in visa application fees alone. Of course they say you can make a complaint but only if your application is live which it isn't once you get your decision. I discuss visas deliberately as they're an important part of the cruising experience and hope the information may be helpful to someone thinking of applying. THANK YOU again.
I suppose we take the whole visa thing for granted as most of our cruises have been from Southampton but can see the frustration that must cause. Wonder where they will base the new Cunard ship in a few years time. They may then end up moving them around a bit more then.
Great Video! I was wondering if the sheltered balcony is enclosed in glass or open to the elements?
The sheltered ones are steel framed with than an opening (4 minutes in to video) so offer lots of protection from the elements
Hi. Can anyone tell me if the settee moves please? Can I pull it forward to stand suitcases behind?
Thank you
You should be able to fit cases under the bed. We have large cases and they always fit :)
can you tell me what is the difference between sheltered balcony and just balcony. I have been on the Queen Mary 2 and Victoria and just had a balcony. now seeing sheltered
Sheltered balconies are lower down deck 4,5&6 they are deeper than ordinary balconies and are steel framed, no glass. Hope this helps
the balcony looks like those in ocean view rooms..
seems open but hard to say in video or photos I've seen..
please tell me it's open to allow air flow 😂
Yes, this is a balcony? But instead of just a glass front they are slightly more enclosed - we really like them
Wow! Penhaligon's 'Quercus' toietries: now if only they had been their defunct 'Raquets', my joy would be unbounded! And when did 'cabins' become 'staterooms'?
Very nice toiletries, think the suites get even more items :) We tend to use cabin/stateroom interchangeably now as it seems to depend on the cruise line.
The balconies of cabins on deck 8 and above are not quite so deep as the sheltered balconies. I travel to the UK twice each year and because I don't like to fly I take the QM2 round trip every time. I have only recently been informed that I can request to dine in the Britannia Restaurant. My lady friend and I are assigned to the Queens Grill but we both think the Britannia Restaurant is so magnificent we've been hoping for a way to dine there, if only one time.
Hi, I have a trip on QM2 this May for the first time. If the sea is not rough, do you actually feel the ship motion, the waves (in terms of motion sickness?) Thank you.
Yes from time to time maybe the odd random wave. But QM2 is the most stable ship I’ve been on. We always bring avomine just Incase the sea really picks up.
Well that’s not very smart. Just because you don’t like flying you take the QM2?! I mean 70 years ago that would make sense but now? I mean a ticket in the least expensive room is over 1,000 dollars!
The Dining Staff are so amazing also.
@@QueenNoTeetha151 Come back to where? South Africa, Australia, Chile, India, China, Canada?
Is it also categorised by the cruise line as obstructed balcony at time of booking?
No, not these. They do have obstructed one that have a lifeboat in front of them
I really want to sail again with QM2 .. and i wish I can film this good too.
Great video. I found the background music volume too loud when not talking.
Sorry, we’re having issues with it, ever since iMovie decided to do an update it’s been a nightmare. These vlogs are made on an iPhone so we have to compromise here and there at times. Thank you all the same for pointing it out, I’ll see what can be done for the next series. 👍🏻
Ignore the last comment it came through with all the comments for our newer videos- I got it mixed up. This was our very first video with narration it was all very experimental back then ❤️ but we’re still having some issues even now
@@CruiseMonkeys thanks for the response. I otherwise totally enjoyed the video, very well done. I have sailed on QM2 several times and love it.
Good video, but the music volume fading in and out blares and is louder than your tone of voice.
Sorry if that irritated you, voice overs are something we’ve never done before we usually just use music. In fact we’re having a lot of issues with sound and getting it right, so much so I’m actually thinking of just using music in the future as I’ve done in the past. I put the videos together on my phone and I’m not interested in carrying loads of equipment with me on my holiday or sitting at a computer for hours. Thanks for your comment and pointing that out.
Only thing to point out is technically QM2 is an ocean liner and not a cruise ship
Yes we know. She’s actually the last ocean liner in service in the world. 👌🏻
The music could go away...or keep it the same volume. I was too distracted to pay attention because I had to keep adjusting the volume to hear you.
Thanks for the feed back - think this was our first ever attempt at voice over several years ago, so we hope we've improved since then. Hopefully you managed to get a good feel for the room, when we go back on QM2 we'll be updating these videos.
God knows why people just don’t fly, it’s so much quicker and cheaper.
Walking would take longer but you could take the scenic route and fresh air providing time wasn’t an issue.
Not everyone likes flying, we’re all different I guess. Some ships including QM2 are so magnificent and have so many amazing features/amenities they are destinations in themselves. Half the time we don’t care where the ship is going it’s being on the ship that makes it enjoyable for us. But then that’s us, we all have different tastes 👍🏻
I haven’t met a single person who can walk on water and I don’t think swimming would be scenic - more like traumatic given how fast conditions change at sea 🌊 😂
Gavin & Luke - Holidays at Sea
Oh gosh I certainly wouldn’t recommend swimming alongside the ship, it would be almost impossible to keep up with it. Strong swimmers may get some pleasure however.
I was one pulled along with a rope and rubber ring by a rowing boat in a lake as I’m a weak swimmer, but no way this would be pleasant in the ocean. Dangerous, definitely not recommended.
An overrated ship.
