    Great video from my two favorite wine guys. I have been drinking quality wines for 50 years and what both of you give me is ideas for trying wines that I don't usually drink - like grenache or friano. I have learned much from both of you. Plus you are entertaining. Keep it up.

    Fun video and good deep dive into all things wine related. You have to a lot of respect for Paul after being in the wine business for 40 plus years, he has lots of good insight into the past, present and future of wine. I particularly enjoy how he can appeal to a wide cross section of wine drinkers, both casual drinkers and the serious wine geeks. Great content and well thought, thanks and keep them coming. Cheers!

    Totally agree on Garnacha/Grenache! Its a grape with tons of variety and character and its clones give it great versatility in white, red and rosé categories. Balaguer i Cabre in Priorat is a great example of terroir driven Garnacha (white, red and rancio styles) that is dry farmed and very low intervention! Definitely recommended everyone who hasnt dove deep into Spain to try a Priorat white wine, they are world class!

    Oh no! I am apparently one of the “handful of nerds” that love the obscure content. 😂
    But seriously, I just love learning anything I don’t already know a lot about. Bob’s recent video on white Bordeaux was a cool twist on a overdone subject (and white Bordeauxs are much more affordable for the average person)
    I love what Bob said about the experience of traveling through wine. Wine is what kept me sane during quarantine in the pandemic. My husband and I were world travelers previously and wine enabled me to still “travel” and learn about other places while stuck at home.

    I love a good Riesling, but for the whites it has to be Albariño for me. I love the salinity/minerality it leaves in your mouth and the acidity is just perfect. As for the reds, I'm pretty basic and PROUD of it - it's Merlot. It's very balanced and the tannins are almost... plushy? So underrated! Honorable mention: it's a sparkling wine, but man, a dry Lambrusco can be absolutely delicious! PS. Hi from Poland :)

    I am SORRY! I love your work!! It would help if YOU separated your quality score from your QPR (Quality to price Rato) Score. I LOVE scoring, or better yet, scoring wines blindly, yet why do SO MANY lack TWO scores? One for the quality (0 to 100) - irrelevant to the price and another score for how that quality matches up to its peers? That way, each wine is valued for WHAT IT IS!
    The issue, obviously, is tracking the quality scores and the prices of ALL ITS peers and then coming up with the proper QPR (Quality to Price Ratio score) to weigh those peers amongst those quality scores. That is work, I do that on my blog, but my world of Kosher wines pales in comparison to the world of wines, as a whole. I wish there was more of an interest/desire to break the relationship between quality scores and Price ratio scores.

    • @drmatthewhorkey
      @drmatthewhorkey  4 месяца назад

      That is a VERY interesting take!

      @@drmatthewhorkey Doc! Your passion for wine needs to be viewed through the OBJECTIVE and SUBJECTIVE lenses. Everyone has the right to love, hate, or accept a glass of wine, that is 100% opinionated, it may well be based on education, which this country is STILL LACKING! It may be based on preference, which is still an education issue, but of course, is still a preference. This score is 100% SUGGESTIVE, based on your wine education and knowledge.
      In the end, one's preference SHOULD HAVE ZERO impact on the price of said wine! The price/accessibility of said wine is a producer's discretion and as such should be weighed in comparison to its peers who are trying. or should be trying to sell the "same" wine to the consumers.
      As such, that qualitative score, that weight, should have ZERO value on the availability, the price, and the emotional attachment one may have, again those are qualitative scores.
      There needs to be a qualitative score ( a score irrelevant to who/what/why and where it was tasted) and a QPR (Quality to Price Ratio Score) that defines how it stands among its peers! Keep up the great work Doc!
