I love the idea of these, and will watch this entire series that dropped!...BUT, as the owner of a new used leaf, 2019 SV, the use case for our leaf will never require a stop at a fast charger, the prior owner only fast charged once. At the ~$1000 point I will not buy one of these, if it were around 300 I would definitely buy one as part of the "emergency" kit.
Kate can add the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to the Chademo Port list. Like Kate, I am also a Mitsubishi iMIEV fan. It was a ground breaking EV that brought DC fast charging to the EV playlist. It also was one of the first practical Li-ion EVs, maybe the first.
Nomadic Hippie has quite a few videos of him testing the Acrane and another brand, not the A2Z, on his Leaf. He also successfully charged at a Tesla super charger with two adapters connected.
I have communicated with several companies either converting Leafs, making range extender battery packs, or building brand-new, high capacity battery packs for Leafs, and none of them have plans for the Soul, too few were made to make it worthwhile. I have been watching the adaptors for over a year, with the price dropping from over £2,500 to around £800 - which is still too high, but we are getting there.
Actually when the CCS was announced Elon changed his protocol to match. Changed isn't the right word he made his cars bi-lingual. They spoke CCS and his original protocol. So the cars only needed connector adapter. CHAdeMO is completely different using CAN so it needs a translator circuit. That's what makes CCS to CHAdeMO adapter so expensive and heavy.
@@transportevolved I thought it was just a dumb adapter to charge from a CHAdeMO cable to Tesla plug. Most of our DCFC sites have an adapter clamped on the CHAdeMO plug as Tesla used the same CAN protocol . There was the 50kW limitation though. In 2019 when i started to look at BEV , I saw no reason to give a 2nd look at the CHAdeMO LEAF with the 64 kWh battery . The other CHAdeMO cars didn't have the range I was looking for.
It wasn't "when CCS was announced" - it was *YEARS* later. Even some 2019 Tesla vehicles need a paid retrofit to accommodate the CCS adapter. And Supercharger dispensers at charge stations only support CCS protocol if they're V3 or V4. And even the early V3 don't all "speak CCS". V2 and "Urban Superchargers" absolutely cannot "speak CCS." The original Supercharger protocol used CANbus, like CHAdeMO, which is why early Tesla vehicles could use CHAdeMO with a simple "wire adapter" the way newer Tesla vehicles can do the same with a CCS adapter. (And in theory, Tesla could enable CHAdeMO vehicles to use *ALL* Supercharger stations, even V1/V2/Urban, with a simple "wire adapter," no complicated translation electronics needed.)
@@AnonymousFreakYTit depends where you are. In Europe Tesla vehicles supported type 2 CCS sooner. My 2020 Model 3 in the US I had to do the retrofit (pretty easy conversion). But yes, CCS is based on PLC, Chademo is based on CANbus, so a translator is required. And yes, Teslas still communicate on their own protocol, which - IIRC - was also based on CANbus. That's why Teslas plugged into a Supercharger or Tesla destination plug sometimes get extra functionality than a CCS or J1772 vehicle, respectively.
Hmm .. is Tesla going to be an option? If Kia can be "blocked", as is being reported, then there is some identification going on (MAC?). I would *think* that nonsense will go away (I don't understand why they're doing it even now??), but ...
Huge bonus. The leaf has built in bidirectional charging through chademo from day 1. Battery upgrades are easy too.
Such great news for CHAdeMO vehicles.

As a recent and Chuffed owner of a 13yr old C-Zero, I should definitely keep this on my santa list

Awesome, I really wanted some reviews of these types of adapters.
I saw an iMiev driving around Bellingham yesterday!
LEAFS NOT DEAD (PUNKS NOT DEAD either)
Fast charging stations should also include level 2 Chargers, maybe 240 V and 120v outlets for BYO
Just got an update from dcbel, manufacturer of 2-way chargers. They've got a demo in San Rafael, CA using Chademo. Not sure why.
Doesn't the original Kia Soul EV have Chademo too?
I am interested in a Leaf because of the V2G potential. Would one of these adapters be helpful? I have a Myenergi charger which works with my Tesla MY
Don’t forget to do the coolant bypass on the Electric Soul’s rear motor. They will all leak internally and fail!
That adapter I'm really waiting for is the one that will get my Bolt to charge at, say, 150kw.😂
$1,365 + tax + shipping...No thanks. Besides I simply charge at home. If it was $49.95 I'd buy one for an emergency.

That's not what we were told by a specialist in the sector. On the surface, you're partially right, but it's much much more complex.
@@transportevolved scaling costs ?

“Ch’-DAY-mo”… 🔥😡🔥
When I had my soul EV, I would’ve gladly paid $1000 for CCS access
