    I just started my first reborn (Christmas 2017). So far have done one flesh layer and the veining, may do the mottling tonight too. I don't know how many times I have watched and listened and slept through your tutorials. Slept because I sometimes watch it at night laying down. Kind of nervous and afraid to mess up and she won't turn out right, but everything gets better with practice. Thank you for the tutorials! Merry Christmas!

    Thank you so much for this Sharon. I have been watching your channel since last year. I finally got all the paints and supplies together along with a 2nd hand doll I got off eBay. I don’t know why I was so scared to try, I was an art teacher for years. I’m pretty good at mixing colours. I didn’t watch your videos again before starting. I wish I had. I didn’t wash out the kit or buy the paint and tile medium. After 6 or so layers I stopped and went back on you tube. I’ve decided to start again and do it properly. I have a sherry rawn kit from 2007 that’s super orange. I will correct the orange with blue but I don’t know what to do after. Other artists do layers of almost white and pale yellow to make the kit as pale as possible. I want a real newborn look would you agree with this approach?❤️👍

    Thank you for this video , Sharon.I just now starting to collect my paint. Do you have a color wheel ? Could you please let me know what colors you use to get a golen. Or whitish blonde ? Also a strawberry blonde also. Please let me know what I'll. Need to paint...I'm a beginner. Bless you

      If you are going to use acrylics, start with flesh and then add a little off-white and a little pale yellow for the hair (golden blond). You can add a sienna color if you want it a little more golden and darker. I look at the color wheel online when I need to see how to correct a color or neutralize a color. Hope this helps. Good luck and stay in touch! Sharon x0x0

    I was so afraid to put paint to vinyl for weeks i put it off, I kept thinking what's the worst that will happen? I mess up and have to strio the kit? So I bought the winsor newton paint brush cleaner everyone reccomended for tripping kits off amazon and now I have it sitting on my desk as a saftey net if I do mess nk up but it helped me take that first step so much easier.

    Do you have to use the glass and tile medium in sub sequential layers or just the initial one?

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  8 лет назад +2

      Every layer. It's what helps the acrylic paint stick to the vinyl. At least this is the way I do it. There are so many different ways of reborning, but this is my way. Sharon

    Thank you for this video!!I found it to be extemely helpful.I am slowly getting my supplies together and getting my workstation ready! I am using the same products you are using,so that also helps.I notice you don't tweeze your sponges for this particular layer,and did you apply a layer of just glass and tile medium before you started painting?Thanks again-

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  8 лет назад

      No, I don't mottle the first flesh layers. You can, though. No, I didn't put just a layer of the medium on beforehand. I'm glad this helped you! Sharon

    I also have arthritic fingers and knees and hips.... that is why I chose to do reborning because I can´t do my job anymore. But I am still working at the porcelain factory so far and it´s a hard job, but I have porcelain bowl fo nearly nothing as I work there and I love to use them for mixing colors. Love your videos.

    Hi I have a question if you'd be so kind to answer for me please. Now does the air dry paint just lay on the surface or does it sink into the vinyl like heat set? That's what kind of worries me about it

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  8 лет назад +2

      It is permanent. It actually "stains" the vinyl and I bake my last layer with Genesis Thinning Medium. They are just as durable as heat set paints. Thanks for asking!

    Hello,
    I am learning to watch you video .
    Thank you very much for the good video. Is there no finishing work available after using Air Dry Painting?
    Do I have to finish with varnish?
    Sorry to ask you a question.
    I'll wait for your answer.

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  7 лет назад

      I use only Plaid Folk Art Glass & Tile medium with craft acrylics. Other than that, I use Genesis thinning medium to finish but this needs to be baked - twice. Hope this helps. The glass & tile medium is available on the internet from Plaid's website. It takes some practice to use acrylic craft paints with distilled water and glass & tile medium. I was able to accomplish this and make my paints permanent. As with ALL reborn dolls, painted with ANY paints, they need to be handled gently, like pieces of art. Any vinyl will scratch if it comes in contact with a rough surface. Any vinyl will crack or peel if the sealing was not baked enough or applied incorrectly. Good luck! Sharon

    How long do you wait for it to dry before putting on the next base coat?

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  5 лет назад

      It all depends on the weather (humidity). Sometimes I can apply the next layer in 15 minutes, sometimes a little longer. Hope this helps. You will be able to tell once you start doing it, I promise you!

    what ratio do you use for medium, paint and water please.

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  8 лет назад

      mostly water then medium then paint. A water mixture that requires many coats.

    How.do you get the lint.off.without ruining the paint. I have a of.lint.and little.specks in my.paint.that dries into my paint after the doll.dries..sometimes.I.dont.see.it.in.time..please.help.

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  6 лет назад +1

      You have to work under good lighting and be able to see your paint clearly as you are working. You can easily get the lint off with a cosmetic wedge or a toothpick while the paint is still wet - even the brush will get it off - just keep plenty of paper towels handy! Hope this helps, Sharon

    Does it have to be folk art paint?

  • @baby_snaps

    I am confused on how much medium, and paints to add and water.

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  7 лет назад

      Start with the water - put in enough to do the whole kit. Then stir in a little medium about 1/4 teaspoon (I have never actually measured). Be sure and stir it up before adding. Then add your paint until it is a watery consistency but dark enough so it will show on the vinyl. Little is best to start with and you can always add more paint if it isn't dark enough. Hope this helps. Experiment! That's what it's all about. Enjoy. Sharon

    You finish with the Genesis thinning medium? Is this better than the Genesis matte varnish for the final coat? Thanks for all your help btw!!!

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  8 лет назад

      It's thinner and easier to apply than genesis matte varnish. I just can't stand that thick consistency. Don't know how anybody can successfully use that product!

      Yes, the paints need to be watery and many, many layers applied. You can use rubbing alcohol mixed with distilled water to remove the paint and try again! Sharon

      Experience is the best teacher. You will just need to brush the paint on the sponge and you will know when it is the right amount of moisture. Keep practicing!
