Bolo, you are absolutely right. I ordered the MPC X SE, but thinking about canceling the order. As you said, I would basically be buying it for the colorway.
I never buy in to leaks that much. Sometimes they're right, and sometimes they are wrong. It is what it is. With that being said, I was really disappointed with the MPC XSE, and it was not because of the leaks at all. I was disappointed because the original MPC X was released in 2017, and in 6 years, this is ALL the development they have for the X!?!?!?!?? Slightly more internal storage, and 2GB more ram doesn't seem like 6 years of R&D to me. I can think of MANY things that Akai could do to make a better MPC, and none of them were done in the XSE. I own a MPC X, the Instruments Collection, the Mini D, and Flavor Pro. I bought my MPC X in 2020. Don't you think that, just maybe after 6 years, it's time for Akai to make a TRULY new and improved MPC flagship, and not just repackaging the same X with new colors and more ram?????
I think a lot of the problem is that a lot of people made assumptions that weren’t based on any real facts or evidence. People just assumed the XSE was gonna be a certain thing and it wasn’t. Grown people should know better.
I'm in the Maschine world and have no experience with the MPC at all. BUT.... I been looking into having a MPC just because I've always wanted one. I am thinking this is the one I going for. I am probably wasting money, because I don't know if it will add any real value to the setup I already have.... BUT I WANT IT!!!!
As a long time Maschine user I just bought the X a couple weeks ago. Man I say get yourself an MPC of any kind! XSE, X, Live II, or One. Soon as you hear it you’ll know why.💯
Truly appreciate you, Bolo. I am a MPC Head as well and will grab it as a collector but also the workflow. Thanks for this it did have me up in the air on which X to grab but it's gonna be the SE.
Akai have an established following and are catering to a specific customer and genre. They aren’t going to deviate from that or offer anything to anyone outside of that. Even with the MPCKey61. They promoted it like some type of ground breaking device ( on the SonicState demonstration it was like “you can sequence external gear and have all these awesome on-board sounds along with sampling...something that’s never been done before.” And I’m like....wait....what? Who are they trying to sell this to?). And any criticism of the available sounds on the Keys (being limited compared to Kurzweil, Roland, Yamaha etc) is met with “Well you don’t make beats, the product isn’t for you.” The hell? I’m not sure what people expect from a new Akai product at this point. They are essentially rehashing the exact same engine over and over again in different form factors (similar to Roland’s ZenCore). So the XSE is exactly what’s to be expected.
I'd love to see the next generation of MPC have even greater amounts of RAM and storage. I agree on how good the internal synth engines, effects, etc. are and it would be great to be able to run more of them without hitting the ceiling.
I have a mPC One , but it’s been giving me problems with my pads ! The MPC X SE would be the next ideal purchase bc i like the work flow, plug-in ins and all.
You are telling the truth 100%.... not much of an upgrade from the MPC X .... but I just got mine in the mail and I am upgrading from a MPC Live 1 and its so much better for me honestly like everything has a button and with the extra standalone plugins it was worth the price but you aren't lying.. if you already have a X then its kind of not worth it
I have been using Roger Linns products since the 9000 and I bought the 60 as soon as it was available. It had a lower bit depth (12bit) and a fixed sampling rate of only 40khz. There is a definite difference in the sound. I feel the lows hit much harder and the hi’s are smoother and not as harsh. It would be nice if they offered a way to reduce the bit-depth during the sampling and playback. Sampling at those numbers does make a difference. It’s not just playback.
Have a Live 2 and an Advance 49. Now snatched a used X for a killer price. Will use it w the computer anyway. Having most of the Air VSTs and Sonivox VSTs no need for the new instruments at all. The only one I bought is OPx4, that thing is a beast.
"splice problems" you need to format your ssd with a filesystem that supports symbolics links so NTFS for Windows, 'Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)' for OSX. Dont use exFAT. I have my ssd formatted in NTFS since I use windows and all the organizational folders are there, and everything plays.
It would have made sense if the price was right. It’s 6 year old computer technology, with a measly 2gb ram upgrade. That absolutely costs them the same, or maybe even less money today. It is quite literally a key61 with better pads and no keys, but it’s $1,000 more😒 The fact that it’s more expensive is a slap in the face.
... and none of the internals were exactly cutting edge six years ago, so to call it "6 year old tech" is kind of mild lol But yeah, difference to the Key61 rly exposes the ridiculous pricing of XSE. If only the Key61 had the Q-Link grid of the X instead of the touch strip...
Yeah, I watched that E-A-Ski "Thoughts" video...my brother is not impressed as far as the lack of performance upgrade. Thanks for being transparent Bolo. Yeah, Im one of the ones who will not be completely working out of the MPC, so right now, the live will suffice. I would like to own both, just not in the budget to just own it. Hopefully soon. Keep doing what you do. You are an inspiration, a blessing and a definite go to, for the up and coming, and the Ol' Heads. Thank you!
Wow!!! You have a Sequential Prophet REV2?!!!! SWEET!!!! I have one too. That is really a nice sounding analog polyphonic synth. It's extremely versatile too. Enjoy it! Now back to the MPC X, I bought my MPC X about two years ago. However, it's been plagued with the momentary freeze issue where the machine would lock up and the audio would cut out for a split second then resume. I'm pretty sure it's out of warranty by now and initially thought it was a software issue at first. After several firmware updates and an MPC One that doesn't have the issue and runs the same firmware, I'm convinced it is a hardware issue. As a result, I'm hoping I can still send this thing to Akai for repair. Maybe it's a motherboard issue. Maybe there is the possibility to swap the motherboard in mybMPC X for the new MPC SE motherboard and pay the additional cost. I'd be more than willing to do that if it's possible. The good thing about this new MPC X is there are no additional physical hardware features (like buttons, inputs and outputs, etc....). So, I would definitely like to have the ram upgrade along with all of the plugins in my original MPC X if that' is possible. BTW, I do use the MPC plugins and internal effects, the analog outputs to track out my drums, and I also sequence external hardware synths and drum machines, sound modules, etc.... So, the MPC X is essential.
Also what's after this? Do they keep selling this for a while then go back to selling the regular X? I see the X is discontinued in a bunch of places. Will they sell the OG Black Version again or will they upgrade that version also to have same Ram and Storage? 🤔
I hooked my MPC X SE up to one of my synths for midi to use the internal plugins. I absolutely love my MPC X SE, I think its worth the money. I upgraded from MPC ONE. I tried an MPC KEYs, I personally prefer the MPC X SE, both are great. The MPC ONE was great but for me this is a huge upgrade. I put a 2TB SSD inside, I can’t imagine ever running out of memory now. I was thinking of spending $2000 on a ARP 2600M, still want that too, but this is way more useful for all kinds of music and projects. I have no regrets. It’s actually better and the new plugins are much better than I thought they would be!
Appreciate you Bolo for this information. I'm a Native Instruments user and I have had MPC products but didn't understand the work flow as well. I ended up getting an MPC One and try it again. If the work flow gets easier then I'll move up to the MPC X SE.
Thank you Bolo your honesty is appreciated. Sitting on the fence about the new X SE, i have had an X since 2018 and was my first mpc, it wasnt really until i got a live 2 that i really started to appreciate the X for what it is however the Live 2 is just awesome. Trying to resist the X SE however the exrra ram which comes with it is something that I can never have (to my knowledge)in my current X and that could be significant further down the line in terms of performance.
If they make a re issue of a 3000 and its form factor, along, with the bells and whistles from the New MP's, I'm sold, but more importantly, using the old circuitry would be a major overhaul that we would love to see. If the old components aren't available, they could collaborate with black lion audio, jazz cat etc to change the converters..
I got mines via your affiliate link. Came in the other day, but mines will be in the box for a while. I got it just to get it, but the mpc one is good for me right now. I might open it up next month.
People's expectations are irrelavant. I like it. It is just a special edition of the MPC X - and that is what it is. It is quite nice - seriously considering ordering one this week. Your production values are very good. You have a great voice and it is well recorded.
@@teashea1 Actually I noticed it straight away the audio often is not in time with the mouth and some of the video towards the end blurred. It's fine for a talking video anyway it dont really matter.
Great video Bolo! A yo, I have an MPC Renaissance but I have an M1 Mac. Akai updated software but has yet to update firmware for Ren so I’m SOL at this point. Been using the software and MPK mini fr nw. Should I just sell the Ren or you think they may update firmware to work with Ren?
I see nobody talking about the timbaland edition costing 200 more for no more ram, no more instruments, no more internal storage just a selection of samples. That´s in comparison more expensive than the x se. And for what? A golden plaque with a nr on it, custom boot screen, and the rest is just the same.
Great rant bro! I ordered mine, expecting it Tuesday! I was researching other flagship synths and samplers and realize how superior the MPC XSE and the entire line up is in comparison in RAM and storage space and options! This new X special edition does take it to the next level do to possibly increase speed for load time. I currently own an OG Live. I’m excited for dedicated q links and more buttons to help my work flow. Thanks BOLO for the gem of saving projects externally for easy transfer between units! Thanks for great content.
I don’t think the MPC ONE is discontinued. I believe it’s the RETRO and GOLD that’s limited. You can still buy them here in Minnesota, Roseville Guitar Center location.
Have a Live 2 and would be interested in getting a X SE but never get out of RAM and having all Plugins. Maybe for resale without plugins for a cheaper price :)
Thanks for your intake on the new MPCX SE I'll need to order one for sure now just to celebrate 35 years of Music Production thanks to Akai and make new Beats for the next 40 years to come.
Hey this question is for anybody tht could help but Im wating on my MPC X se and was wondering can I use my internal SSD drive I took from inside of my live 2 and if I install it inside the MPC X SE ?
I'm finally glad to be able to join the MPC X club. I don't understand why people who don't want to or can't afford the thing are upset about it. You should actually be happy that there are now new members in the club. I'm glad Akai did this. The only thing I don't like about this release is the box it came in. The Live II came in a beautiful box worth keeping. This one? I think I'mma buy someone's MPC X box to store my X SE in.
I was actually waiting on this, from you or Ave. I needed that clarity on what it really was, or if there was still an XL coming out or not. If I were in the market, I'd want the Timbaland Live II, because I'm a Tim fan, and I never got the Miko/Niko he had out back in the day.
The price ain’t that bad if you ask me, I had the 4000 and the 2500 and 2000xl and each unit respectively was around the same price as this mpc except the 4000, which started at the same price point but with the cd drive Adat and 8 out audio cards that thing was like $4000. With everything that comes with this unit I think it’s a great price.
in my opinion the mpc its just a midi controller build around one digital daw ! you be better off with a laptop and a midi controller, because you will have the option to have more than one daw and all the vst and vsfx that you want including all ram, cpu and storage plus all the connections that you would ever need !
I definitely purchased the X SE. Upgraded from the OG Live. Workflow is immaculate and far more inspiring to create. But I have to agree this video FOMO is a real thing!!! AKAI needs to go back to its roots and create machines that have a “sound” think the 60 or the 3k. The color scheme and minuscule upgrade motto won’t be cutting it in the future.
The truth is in the name SE (special edition). This isnt new for akai just new to this generation. 20 years ago akai used to make SE versions of the Mpcs. They did for the 3000 and 2000xls. Came with color options and a few upgrades for a few hundred more. If it was worth it or not was up to you. It the goal was to own a limited edition Mpc. People expect everything to be a major upgrade they’re spoiled like that. Truth is what can really be improved on the modern mpc like the x that already has it all a and the updates to prove it? I look at gear like this. I can buy a basic strat from fender for $700 and call it a day or I can save up and buy a $2000 strat from fender. Nether guitar will change my playing ability but the reason I’d spend more on one over the other is because of my personal satisfaction I’d get from it. That’s what the SE’s are. They’re there for your personal satisfaction if you like the look and feel of them. Otherwise you can keep rocking with what you got. Akai isnt ripping anyone off. They’re just giving you options. Like all things also though if something is discontinued it’s because they’re replacing it with something better. Akai always moves forward. I put my faith in them for over 20 years of my life and they have never let me down. They listen to their customers and always build what we want so just have patience. Whatever they drop to replace what was discontinued is going to be what you all have been asking them for.
The MPCSE would make for a dope giveaway or something to hang up in your studio as a decoration are use the NPCX I don’t see the point in getting a new 1
I don’t think it will be something to be collected just like apple the iPhone X with rare color for example will never be as important as the first gen iPhone. That’s how it is MPC60 is the same deal. Especially that the XSE is exactly the same as X just different color and little more ram its not really that collectible since you can make the exact same look with a skin/paint on the X and soon the market will be filled with retro skinned X. 🤷♂️ I would invest in stocks with that money and make 10x times what MPC XSE worth in 5/10 years.
Great video. Thanks for your honesty. Also someone made a comment that they should have put the metal SE plate on it. I agree with that. Akai Pro is a different company now and have to accept that “the akai sound” is a thing of the past and it’s now about workflow, sound packs and features. For now, I’ll stick with my X. May upgrade in the future if my X can’t handle the workload.
No Flavor plugin got me heated, the update isn’t working all the way right, it wouldn’t update via the internet WiFi. My live2retro updated from 2.9 or 2.10 with ease but I don’t like the update. It should have had every plugin and every effect.
Good Video and integrity on the subject, Is it possible to do a video side by side with the X vs SE in maximizing the Ram usage so the community can understand.???...because most people understand visual vs auditorial ...Thanks King
best peace of advice that i was given learn what you already have master that before you try and move on to something else don't do what you see others do bc what works for them money wise may not work for you lets be clear here most of these producers don't have that kind of money laying in the bank and like trick daddy said once if you got more money in your house then in your bank account you are a poor fool please ladies and gentlemen learn to master what you already have if its does not sound good you can have all the mpcs you want but if your sound is not right then you need to go back to the board and try again
Thats correct..he mentioned the converters were different. While that's true about the converters, people should realize that the old converters were just adding color with saturation.
I’m rocking that retro 2 maxed out, blah blah… And I wondered about that ? I was waiting for you to speak on this! I had a feeling this is what you were going to say….once again, as always -Nice work Bolo! Thaswassup
Akai is marketing excellence! Took the brilliance of indi's like Allesis and Ensoniq and raised them to insusty leaders under one brand. Do t be surprised if the MPC XL comes out in a few months. This IS consumer electronics after all..........I'm ust saying..
So where does this leave everyone with the MPC ONE now that its "discontinued " after just a few years? No more updates etc? Myself I toggle between the One, Force, ASR 10 and the MPC 2000. Hopefully I will be able to use the One for a few more years. Wth!!😟
All these devices are similar enough that they'll all get upgrades. Relax. Actually, the fact that the X SE and One SE are hardware identical to the X, Live, Live II, and One minus the RAM pretty much tells you they plan on support the older hardware architecture going forward.
4:16 Where are you getting the info that the one has been discontinued? It is still on the website. Akai has not announced a One MKII yet so until that happens it is not discontinued
I got a Mpc x and I don’t see a reason to get a Mpc se. Akai is just like Apple they charge you for the same thing you already have just throw in a extra camera and change the color but it’s really the same thing.

OPx4 is 🔥🔥🔥
"splice problems" you need to format your ssd with a filesystem that supports symbolics links
so NTFS for Windows, 'Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)' for OSX. Dont use exFAT.
I have my ssd formatted in NTFS since I use windows and all the organizational folders are there, and everything plays.
Ok thanks I’ll definitely try that!
It would have made sense if the price was right.
It’s 6 year old computer technology, with a measly 2gb ram upgrade. That absolutely costs them the same, or maybe even less money today.
It is quite literally a key61 with better pads and no keys, but it’s $1,000 more😒
The fact that it’s more expensive is a slap in the face.
... and none of the internals were exactly cutting edge six years ago, so to call it "6 year old tech" is kind of mild lol
But yeah, difference to the Key61 rly exposes the ridiculous pricing of XSE.
Do you have any videos about the MPC XSE vs the MPC 2 Software ? Do they sound the same ? Same features ?
Thanks!!!!!
2700$ and it sits on the floor🥺
People's expectations are irrelavant. I like it. It is just a special edition of the MPC X - and that is what it is. It is quite nice - seriously considering ordering one this week.
Your production values are very good. You have a great voice and it is well recorded.
The videos was recorded at low frame rate, make the video HD but quicker to upload.
@@HOLLASOUNDS It works
Good video and response Bola, I’m happy with my OG live and OG X. Only thing I really want to know is when Mpc software 3.0 or 2.12 is going to drop?
Great rant bro! I ordered mine, expecting it Tuesday! I was researching other flagship synths and samplers and realize how superior the MPC XSE and the entire line up is in comparison in RAM and storage space and options! This new X special edition does take it to the next level do to possibly increase speed for load time. I currently own an OG Live. I’m excited for dedicated q links and more buttons to help my work flow. Thanks BOLO for the gem of saving projects externally for easy transfer between units! Thanks for great content.
The key 61 has the same ram , and sounds 🤷🏾♂️
What is the best setup for a beginner to start with. I been using the app on my ipad
Appreciate the transparency. Hoodie is flames btw. Salute bro
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I don’t think the MPC ONE is discontinued. I believe it’s the RETRO and GOLD that’s limited. You can still buy them here in Minnesota, Roseville Guitar Center location.
Just paid off my Mpc One. Very happy with it. Using it with ASR 10R
Do you use it via midi
@@JEFFMAN90 yes
are the converters and pads different from the mpc live 2 ?
Any noteworthy contrast between MPCX and MPC Key 61?
It's an option. If you don’t like it, don't buy it. Akai is a business and they want to get paid just like you.
I want a Live II with 4GB.
Have a Live 2 and would be interested in getting a X SE but never get out of RAM and having all Plugins. Maybe for resale without plugins for a cheaper price :)
Theres no processor difference between thr live 1 and 2 right?
Thanks for your intake on the new MPCX SE I'll need to order one for sure now just to celebrate 35 years of Music Production thanks to Akai and make new Beats for the next 40 years to come.
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Can the MPCX SE sound like the MPC3000? I saw Cooking Soul on his channel make a banger in this new Device And sold me on buying it .
At the end of the day, it’s all about Mixing
@@BoloDaProducer thanks for your honest feedback I greatly appreciate that. A good ear is just as important .
Do you mind sharing which camera your using?
i got my XE for about 2k and its been great for me!
Very true!
in my opinion the mpc its just a midi controller build around one digital daw !
you be better off with a laptop and a midi controller, because you will have the option to have more than one daw and all the vst and vsfx that you want including all ram, cpu and storage plus all the connections that you would ever need !
I feel ya, but there something special about stand alone mode… imo sounds better and you get more creative.
Akai discontinued the MPC One?? I’m buying another second hand for a backup then, but i for sure want that SE edition X, that thing is beautiful!
I definitely purchased the X SE. Upgraded from the OG Live. Workflow is immaculate and far more inspiring to create. But I have to agree this video FOMO is a real thing!!! AKAI needs to go back to its roots and create machines that have a “sound” think the 60 or the 3k. The color scheme and minuscule upgrade motto won’t be cutting it in the future.
its weird that there is no hack out or something to activate all them packs on non se devices
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
🤨 DANG BRUH!!!
I’m just now seeing the MERCH!
I’mma Hav to get on that! represent 👍🏼
The MPC One has been discontinued?! Didn' t know that... Seems like the One MK2 is on it' s way???
Straight aestetics on this point, but putting the retro paint job on the KEYS61 is gonna sell as well.
True!
Wait. Did you say that the MPC One is discontinued? Not seeing any news on this. I just got mine a month ago..
That’s what it looks like to me in my opinion, a collectors item I would’ve like to see him more options in colors that would’ve been something to see
That would be dope to have more colors!
I would invest in stocks with that money and make 10x times what MPC XSE worth in 5/10 years.
Thank you for the word
No Flavor plugin got me heated, the update isn’t working all the way right, it wouldn’t update via the internet WiFi. My live2retro updated from 2.9 or 2.10 with ease but I don’t like the update. It should have had every plugin and every effect.
I can agree with you. It definitely should have came with everything
What’s better the MPC 37k or the MPC x SE
Good Video and integrity on the subject, Is it possible to do a video side by side with the X vs SE in maximizing the Ram usage so the community can understand.???...because most people understand visual vs auditorial ...Thanks King
They discontinued the MPC ONE?!? WOW. This sounds like a marketing strategy Akai planned years ago.
Found my Mpc X years ago for $590! 😎😎. I think I’ll hold onto it! Not quite worth it to upgrade! Also found a live 2 for $700.
What!! Where? Man all I could found are way expensive and beat up 😢
Can u add Ram to the X?
Bolo, can you take the plugins that come with the XSE & transfer them to the Live 2 for stand alone mode?
Thanks in advance…
Man I can Do the same thang on the Live 2 and save $1300 FACTS 💯 Thanks Bro for the heads up. Ya'll go ahead and spend dem 💰💰
best peace of advice that i was given learn what you already have master that before you try and move on to something else don't do what you see others do bc what works for them money wise may not work for you lets be clear here most of these producers don't have that kind of money laying in the bank and like trick daddy said once if you got more money in your house then in your bank account you are a poor fool please ladies and gentlemen learn to master what you already have if its does not sound good you can have all the mpcs you want but if your sound is not right then you need to go back to the board and try again
It also has a 4-core processor instead of the 2-core processor of the One/Live/X
u sellin dat computer on the floor?
Yea I saw his video about Mpc X SE he was just talking about newer Mpc sounds vs old sounds from the older Mpc's its not the same.
Thats correct..he mentioned the converters were different. While that's true about the converters, people should realize that the old converters were just adding color with saturation.
@@machiavelli4428 which makes it even more distasteful that they wouldn't incl. Flavor Pro for their special collector's anniversary whatever lol
Why is the MPC One discontinued?
I have the Key 61, Live 2 and just purchased the X SE - I have gear acquisition syndrome! 😅
I’m rocking that retro 2 maxed out, blah blah… And I wondered about that ? I was waiting for you to speak on this! I had a feeling this is what you were going to say….once again, as always -Nice work Bolo!
Thaswassup
Mpc one is discontinued?🤔
I have MPC Ren I'm thinking about getting it
Get it!
@@BoloDaProducer ok ima tell my wife bolo told me to do it👌🏾
Akai is marketing excellence!
The One was discontinued?
4:16 Where are you getting the info that the one has been discontinued? It is still on the website. Akai has not announced a One MKII yet so until that happens it is not discontinued
I got a Mpc x and I don’t see a reason to get a Mpc se. Akai is just like Apple they charge you for the same thing you already have just throw in a extra camera and change the color but it’s really the same thing.
The MPC One is discontinued? I don't think so.
They are still selling it, but they’re not making any more. That’s why all of the original MPC ones are on sale.
@@BoloDaProducer Got it.
you mentioned you dont save internally. the computer doesn't recognize the ssd inside the mpc? you cant see it ?
Akai should maybe have a talk with loopcloud..at least they integrated the Elektron samplers...
I just copped the X since the price point is decent now.
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
How long will the Mpc X SE be available bolo?
Yup. Collectors item. I’m gonna stick with my 6GB iPad Pro running BM3 mapped to my mpd232
I bought it and doesn’t come with all of the sounds. That’s kind of the bummer
Is only missing the mini D
@@BoloDaProducer yeah with sth as unique and innovative as a moog emu, totally understandable why they couldn't throw that in as well for their super pricey anniversary collector's whatever lmao
BOLO!!!! THANK YOU!!
