- Lee, Mark and Kenny meet Ben and his group in the woods. One of Ben's group has his leg stuck in a bear trap. Lee has the choice to free him by cutting off his leg or rather leave him. All choices and dialogues from this scene are included in the video.

He had tons of time to run but...yeah
For those who haven’t seen the cut content, the bear trap was set by the dairy brothers to hunt down people to trade off as meat. The teacher was originally supposed to be left in the forest. Later, instead of Lee finding Mark in the bathroom with his legs hacked off, he finds the teacher without legs warning him about the dinner.
I prefer it being mark I think it makes it more impactful
i cut his leg off pretty quick and finding mark later on was definitely one of the more scary parts, the cannibals are probably the most scary people to me out of all the games. the amount of difference that your choices make is amazing in this game !

Yeah the st Johns were responsible for the bear trap so they could take the humans that were trapped in the bear trap for meat
You should be able to recognize it, they got some bear traps inside their farm and also the bear trap was modified in order to not be released so it was something that can be predicted.

Apparently in the deleted scenes I think that the teacher ends up getting his Legs cutted off by the dairy farmers and Markus ends up getting shot so the teacher does end up being a zombie but in a different way

I've played the first game countless times, but I've never ever left David (I saw it was an option according to the end game stats, but I just couldn't figure our how to not chop off his leg). So thanks for this video.

Fun fact: mark was originally supposed to die when lee and mark first encountered the bandits but instead he got shot in the shoulder. He was going to die by getting shot in the head by the arrow. When you go to the stJohn’s david (the teacher)was going to have HIS legs cut off instead of mark. The traps were for people that was the original plan. I probably would have preferred that to happen
I always thought, if you had the option to cut the tree from the get-go, not only would that allow you to be able to carry the teacher away & have more time to open the bear claw, but a falling tree could've been a great weapon/barricade to subdue the incoming walkers.
Would've been an interesting choice to have if everyone opted for cutting the leg off at first glance 😂

A tree that size would’ve taken longer than the time they had. And I’m not sure if a fire axe would function same because they’re designed for wood materials and not wood.

I felt so bad for the teacher and Travis :(
As much as we joke about having Travis instead, this was very tense moment when you played the game for the first time. You have threat of walkers, and you have limited time to figure out what to do, and you also have no idea how important that teacher might be or how he contributes to the overall story and future events. So it was very, very tense and "under pressure" moment, which game utilized to full in first episode. It's easy to dismember all the parts when you played the game few times and know most of the outcome, but always do keep in mind how it feels when you play it for the first time.
This is most obvious in S3, where you can chose to save Clem from Conrad or "betray her". My instant reaction was "Fuck Conrad, no way I am gonna betray Clem". But on my second run I knew it's crap and that choice makes zero impact, because Javier never proceeds to sell out Clem and she forgives you. That's the difference between first run and second when you know how some things play out.
Mr. Parker did not just die because he lost to much blood but also because he got his leg chopped off with a dirty walker contaminated axe which made contact with his blood
Fun fact
Mr Parker was supposed to live longer until the dairy farm, and his legs would get cut off in episode 2 and instead of Mark's legs getting eaten it was supposed to be Mr Parker.

He will point out things no matter what. If you pick all the "right" choices he will still come up with something related to the story like going to the farm

He comes with shit anyway, but less. For example I think that if you left Clem with Omid and give her a gun to defend herself, he won't say anything about it like he does when you brought her or leave her unarmed.

I like to think if either the teacher or Travis survived, they’d be one off either or like Sarah in season 2 episode 4. You can save one or both, but they die anyway. Like not the same way they canonically do, but they go to the farm for example, or maybe some other turn of events which ultimately leads to their death.

If Travis lived I see him only living up until Episode Three. As a rewrite in general I’d have Travis and Mark both survive up until this point. For example, say that he can die in the bandit attack unless you save him, or you save Mark, who gets left behind if you don’t save him. If you do save Travis from dying, he’ll get shot by Lily in place of Carley/Doug. Then, if Mark’s alive, have him come back in Season 4 like Lily did.
To be fair his dad was in “special” forces. Just Not the one you imagined.

I remember seeing a playthrough of someone purposely making all the bad choices a while back. The funniest part for me was when they decided to partially axe his leg and ditch him.
