Using material dug out from building MRT is really smart.
Nothing can be built in Singapore if ASEAN neighbors stop selling sand and stone to Singapore.
But, the neighbors also want to profit from selling the sand which basically is worthless to them.
Especially in the case of Cambodia, Singapore did everything, excavation, load the sand/stone onto the barges and bring the sand/stone to Singapore. Cambodia just sit back and collect the money. Besides the excavation help Cambodia to reduce the chances of flooding by widening river mouth
meanwhile in Philippines massive build buildings around Manila area or Skyway stage 3

I’m kind confused...why Singapore spend millions billion dollars to build a mega port when the country so tiny population only 6 million and cost them more money to build on water ...and the island have to depend on neighbors for energy food water

Energy - solar power from Australia a few hundred billion spend, 170 countries supplying food to Singapore everyday. 4 desilation water making plants in Singapore - a few hundred billion. ( depend on neighbours? which one ? )

Here is an idea : Build holes in the ground and built a city underground. Then the soil and earth that are dugged from this can be used for sea reclamation

Singapore only an island without any natural resources & hinterland can achieve to such success, Malaysia on other hand with plenty of land & natural resources is degressing...Corruption, never ending race & religion issue, increasing brain drain & many2 more worth not mentioning at all.

But singapore more depend to malaysia on water supply n food, if singapore import from other country cost of food will be high becoz if import from malaysia cost of transportation using lorry more cheap than air n water transport

Anyway, whole of Peninsula Malaysia streching from Penang right to PTP will be transformed into super mega ports with massive rail networks connecting all the areas.Just like the ECRL connecting Kuantan port to Port Klang.

Better than Kra Cannal: China BRI land connects to the Middle East (Iran) via Pakistan, which is why XinJiang is a Strategic area. China-Russia Gas Connection via Mongolia is another area.
Why would a country cut it's own land for a canal whereas other countries busy reclaiming land?
