I remember watching this as a 10 year old. Just completely in awe. My all time favorite player.
I remember watching this game on HTS, I was 13
I can't imagine the feeling in the park that night. I can't imagine being there to witness a record being broken that will never be broken again... man I wished I lived in the 90s
Other than Mel Proctor repeatedly telling us how many minutes the ovation was going on, this was one of the most magical moments in sports history.
The moment with Cal and his Dad make eye contact what a special moment
Forget the Home Run Race, THE STREAK and this game in particular saved baseball, and gave people a reconnection to the game. The reasoning is because many people throughout the country could relate to Cal Ripken. Whenever there are times where I feel like I can't do certain things, I just put on the footage of some of Cal's legendary moments. This is the one everyone thinks of. No matter what some people think, this is the most unbreakable record in any sport, in any era.
Yes it did this was the season right after the 94 strike and actually the season didn't start until May when the strike was officially over. Also cal did it the right way. You never heard of him in any scandal, steroids, or off the field trouble.
Yeah, but unlike Big Mac, this record breaking moment was pure! McGwire cheated his way to history but not Ironman.
Unbreakable record
Imagine being a young player in his 1st season with the Angels when call came around to the visiting dugout to shake there hands! For a lot of those guys they grew up watching Cal. Then to get a chance to play against him in this game. Amazing
Rafy palmerio had a sweet swing man
No one made hitting HRs look more effortless and smooth.
Pretty awesome this is on RUclips
Me and my grandpa watched this together and he insisted they were making something out of nothing! Apparently he thought "just showing up" wasn't really noteworthy. And half jokingly said they could just drag him out onto the field and it'd "count"! In Cal's defense though he started in all of those 2632 straight games and from 1982-87, he didn't even miss an inning!!

I freaking love that ump
If this angels team didn't collapse down the stretch they would've been tough in playoffs with that lineup. Jeesh
I know. To me, this series was a big reason why the Angels didn't make the playoffs. They lost all 3 games by an average of 4.5 runs. Not only was there the pressure of Griffey coming back on the Angels but 2131 also played a big role in the collapse.
I thought at first Ben McDonald forgot to take the cap off the lens of his camera lol 😂imagine if he got home and realized he didn't and had no picture just sound.
If Ripken was considered an average baseball player by some of the so-called baseball pundits ?, then I'll take his average every day of the week and twice on Sunday, and so will players and managers, and in his case, that's 376 weeks ! 🌭🍻
Well said! Cal revolutionized the Shortstop position
Mel and John were the pros from Dover back then.
I bought two tickets for souvenir
For those who want to see the record
and celebration go to 1:34:35 or so LOL
21 minutes of nothing but respect for one of the greatest players to ever do it.
Sincerely, a Braves fan.

Al Clark details in his book how they changed their rotation in Boston for this series. Al Clark was supposed to have the plate for that game.
Cal Ripken was a major dissapointment for the fans of Baltimore. He didn't last long as the team leader. He was replaced as the team leader pretty quickly. 1:53:00
Wait, you’re saying Cal Ripken Jr wasn’t a good leader?
Why cut off the post-game?
Never any doubt this was #1.
Surprised it doesn't have the views like other videos
