- We are psyched to welcome in the OG correspondent, Tyrese Haliburton (The Indiana Pacers) to answer questions from our fans. First up, JJ talks about the likelihood of The Pacers breaking into the upper tier of The Eastern Conference contenders, then Tyrese joins to give praise to Tyrese Maxey of The Philadelphia 76ers and Jrue Holiday of The Boston Celtics. Then Tyrese and JJ talk about The NBA's weird string of calling technical fouls for "taunting" (like Giannis Antetokounmpo and ANT). They then dig into the Indiana Pacers early success and what it feels like to finally be winning in The NBA, his takeaway from playing Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs), people who have tried to fix his jump shot and who JJ and Tyrese would pick as the third member of their 3-on-3 team. Let's go!

My Knicks drafted Toppin instead of Tyrese when we needed a pg just to send him play with him for a bag of chips three years later. Nice
Please fix your statement it's confusing me bro
Sounds like the Knicks
Everyone lost the draft.
Also Obi Toppin has no iso game. Hes just a rim runner
Whatever-your coach old, fat, dumb, regarded Thibs a huge fool discriminating against Obi-thanks Knicks, we’ll gladly use the best finisher at the basket in the NBA-OBI F-ING TOPPIN!
Knicks single handedly making multiple pacer eras lol
14:20 interview starts
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
JJ is single handedly renewing my NBA fandom. Watched pacers all the time when I was younger. But this is the first time in probably 5 years where I’ve watched any game before Christmas.
Somewhere, Adam Silver just smiled.
you should give that cred to hali. they’re fun because of him
I love how this pod has set me up to root for Halliburton and Maxey and Trey Murphy for the rest of their careers. These are good dudes and I love hearing from them…
The Pacers got something in Haliburton. He might be the best true pg in the league
There’s no “might” about it
This guy is forreal. I still remember last year he had like 36 and hit a stepback game winner against my Heat
@@versatillion15 I said might because you can’t forget about the point god
Ben Simmons
@@taj3618Fr, Simmons is still the “next Lebron”
He might be the only true point guard in the league
I love the dynamics between JJ & Tyrese! 2 super awesome dudes who can talk about the NBA scene and make it feel like it's the normal day-to-day of most people!
I love Halliburton’s openness and honesty. His game and character goes without saying!
I’m a Wisconsin resident and huge Bucks fan, so obviously Giannis is my favorite player. But I also went to Oshkosh West when Tyrese was at Oshkosh North. He was phenomenal, but no one, even on Tyrese’s team (according to Osh North players I talked to) thought he would make the NBA, except for Tyrese himself. He would give us 40 every damn time, and their 1-3-1 was infuriating. Tyrese just always made the right play. Fast forward through his basketball career and he has continued to do just that, make the correct play damn near every single time. He plays a beautiful game of basketball, and I can say as someone who has watched him since high school, he has always been humble, had great parents, been a great teammate, unselfish and a hell of a worker. People would talk about how he couldn’t gain weight his first year of college, but lo and behold he was able to do it. At every level, whatever improvement he has needed to make, he’s done it. He still comes back to Oshkosh every once in a while, and sees old high school teammates etc. a great man and easily my second favorite NBA player.
Tyrese’s dad is going to turn into the Pacers version of Spike Lee. Always getting fired up in the front row lol
Great timing, Hali is increasingly skyrocketing right now into a super star PG
That's for damn sure. He is shockingly quick with his movement and ball handling, too. Love watching him play and grow.
All-NBA this year
Im not waiting to say it. He the best PG In the league. True Definition of it.
indy native here. appreciate the love man, we love the team here right now. hopefully we keep it moving!
legitimately, I’ve been watching OldMan3 for almost the entire run. Never commented but I f.ckin’ loved this interview. All 3 crushed, so much fun. Thanks so much for being awesome. Great work, prep, everything. Ty should’ve thrown shade at JJ more. He always deserves it!
Tyrese Haliburton is a likable human being.
Ant Edwards 1:01:15
Thanks
Get that pacers first take segment and you’re a legend in my eyes
What an intelligent and smar and nice guy Tyreese is, and, of course, a wonderful player!!!
This is DOPE af jj, I like the fact you got him here after his performance the other day it will be interesting to so some insight
Haliburton is so much fun to support and watch.
YEsssssss / thank you for taking this format for what it can do - talk about TEAMS in the NBA and not just the big market teams over and over. The NBA is essentially big market vs small market. Let’s let the internet balance the scales of focus. The Pacers deserve discussion as due other smaller market teams. Appreciate this for convo. Hats off ✌️👏🏼🎬
Awesome episode. the fact that tyrese has great chemistry already with jj on the pod makes it even better. I especially loved the question and answer about why some shooters dont really develop or they resist moving off the ball and the one about the vibe in the locker room on a winning vs losing team. Great insight from current and former player on things like the impact of egos, having a healthy competition level on the roster while working toward the same goal and how having a few joyful players who love the work everyday no matter the circumstance can be one of, if not THE most important factor on a teams energy throughout the long season. I think things like that aren't emphasized enough just because the outside doesnt witness it daily and even arent valued enough sometimes when building a well rounded roster that fits together. It not all about talent or on court fit, but personalities meshing and having a balance of different traits. There's too much focus and too much value on forcing talent to work together a lot of times imo.
My favorite thing and the thing that stands out about tyrese to me isnt just his game but the way he thinks the game, his iq, his pulse and understanding of all moving pieces surrounding performance on the court, especially for still a very young player. I dont think many players in the league in general (not just young guys) have that type of grasp on the game. Its really impressive. I remember only watching a bit of him in college but was pretty sold on him being a pretty safe bet to be a good player leading into the draft and was surprised he wasnt at least picked by the 5 teams ahead of the kings, if not top 5. And i know its early in his career but he already clearly has a super bright future post career. Looking for forward to watching him the rest of this year and his continued development throughout his career. And more of these episodes with him. Love it
Their win against Philly was really impressive!
When I saw the schedule with only one nationally televised game, my mind was blown. Ty is a dope dude to push forward and the Pacers are a fun team.
Haliburton is the Truth, If he and Anthony Edwards ever team up it is absolutely over for the league.
Love these tyrese interviews ❤
I love the kings and pacers favorite player is Fox I’m a huge tyreese fan as well I was pissed when he was traded. But I’m happy to see both sides benefiting
He learned from what happened vs Charlotte. Took it personal. 0 turovers in the last two games. That's the mark of greatness.
Charlotte game was a fluke Ty rarely turns the ball over that’s why that clip went viral because it was a surprise especially for lamelo to be the one out of all people 😂
@@purpleperc1012Gotta give Melo his credit he locked in for the last possession
Haliburton seems like a really nice guy.
Could we get a segment about the top performing rookies in a week or 2? Really like the defense from Ausar Thompson and love talking OKC.
Agree on celebrations and mean mugs. Players need to be able to express emotion and everyone enjoys! Makes the plays and games more memorable. 💥
It's before JJ's time but the all-time leader in the funky shot category has to be Jamaal Wilkes. For the youngins, Wilkes played with the Rick Barry Warriors who won a chip and "Silk" also played with Magic Johnson and the Lakers in the early '80s and won a chip there too.
JJ wasn't just a superstar at Duke, but a legend
He literally might be the best college player ever.
I've loved watching Haliburton and the Pacers so far this season. Underrated team
Thanks for talking about the pacers. We really appreciate it
Tyrese Halliburton’s play this year has transformed Indiana into one of the most fun teams to watch in the NBA. It was interesting to hear him talk about proving his detractors wrong around 45:00. I think that there is kind of a point about his individual shot creation, because of the way he shoots I don’t know how well he can get that shot off in a 1:1 situation but it doesn’t even really matter. Wishing him continued success.
I'm a lakers fan but i really enjoy watching the pacers play. I'm def rooting for them!
Matt Bonner needs to be mentioned for a great shooter with a funky form.
Tyrese's skill- to shot form ratio is insane
Love Hali and the way he is leading the Pacers this season. They will make it to the playoffs and def will make some noise in the East!
Tyrese is the modern JKIDD! Passing is making a huge comeback 💯💯
Watching this after all star break, Tyrese knowledge of the game and his prior calls r insane
I wish this interview was after the second Philly game. Sheeeeeesh
Tyrese a future analyst
Love it as per usual. Waiting for that Pacers first take segment, but in the meantime...let's keep it rolling. Would love to see Andrew Nembhard and/or Aaron Nesmith on the pod.
This was a fantastic pod
Kevin Martin elite funky shot
Facts
Love coming back here after watching what Haliburton just did to the Celtics in the In-Season Tournament. 19:26 22:00 Talked very highly of the Celtics and Jrue Holiday's defense, which is all facts. And he had Jrue on him trying to play lockdown defense. But he went out there, and DID THAT. LET HIM COOK. 😎😎🔥🔥 I didn't know Haliburton was so skilled tbh. And its probably also because their games are never on tv over here. 😂 C'mon NBA, get these Pacers some more damn national televised games. Been a big fan of Maxey and Anthony Edwards for years now. But yeaa, I can say I got some love for Haliburton too now. The confidence in attack mode and shot making, the play making. That no look pass to homie running the floor was SLICK. He cold 😎
Tyrese is the truth.Pacers can make eastern conference final if healthy. Im calling it
Awesome ep!!
Pistons drafted Killian Hayes over this man
😂😢😂😢😂
Crazy! Aha.
tyrese is one of the very few genuine good guy in nba.
Eh I think there are quite a few. Podcasts (even tho there are way too many) have been great at showing the personal side of NBA players
The NBA needs to do a better job at spreading national tv games amongst different teams in the league, its absolutely ridiculous that a lot of good teams and players will never get any recognition because of this. Like last season the kings didn't have a single nationally televised game until they went on like a 10 game winning streak.
51:49 what about Shawn Marion???!!
JJ's google docs email is giving off Oda's Noda Skywalker cover page vibes
Very grateful i got league pass this year. The pacers have been my favorite watch all year with the bash like 7 second offense
Nash*
Good to see Hali on 🔥
Tyrese halliburton thank u for bringing fun back to Indiana ball
Interesting they both immediately agree that Ant will be a unanimous top 5 player in 2-3 years. I think hes capable of it but the mount of talent in the NBA just keeps getting crazier. Even of the old guys like LeBron, Steph, KD, AD, etc. all fall off, Giannis, Jokic, and Embiid will likely all still be at their best, Tatum, Luka and Tyrese arent going anywhere, and by then who knows what guys like Wemby or Chet will be. Hard to just guarantee any one guy will be top 5 in 3-5 years from now.
I wish Tyrese played for OKC, he’s one of my favourite players.
I've always found Ty's shooting form very similar to Barbosa
I feel like people are having really short memories on the taunting technical debate. When LeBron caught an alley oop and dunked on Jason Terry, all he did is take 1 step towards Terry while he was on the ground and he got a technical. Like a lot of rules, the guidelines are changing and this year, they're cracking down on after-dunk celebrations - the league/refs just need to be consistant
Was right on time for my 9am break
Peja would be so much more appreciated in current NBA.
JJ you are a legend !!!!
If anything the absence of the mean mug.. will just equate to more Ts because of the pinned up anger they would normally release with just passion in the moment.
shawn marion kind a had a funky shot as well for the suns
Let's go Pacers!! #NaptownWhatUp!!
I think it’s just really simple to make it defenses right or left. So in this case it’s always your right, or your left. But strong weak would be ok if everyone bought into it. I’ve just done right left for 25+ years.
Joe ingles has one of the wonkiest forms I’ve seen
Thank you JJ for mentioning the disposition of Co workers. It's true they really can make a huge difference. Some people are always smiling and they're as key to the success of the whole as anyone
Hali is a superstar, legit! Commanding the #1 offense in the league with no other "stars" around him. ANd leading the league in assist. Wow
don’t forget the kevin martin jumper !!!
Vid starts at 14:30
Got tha 1K Like!!!!
Get him on consistently!!
He’s part of the team he checks in a lot
TYRESE HALIBURTON IS ACTUALLY 5 YEARS OLD. I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP. YOUNGEST PLAYER IN THE NBA BY FAR WTAFFFFF.
Need time stamps on these
JJ could have the most hated player in the league on and we'd all love the guy by the end of the show
A P5 episode would be 🔥 (Paolo Banchero)
I mean no disrespect when I say this (No disrespect is usually followed by copious amounts of disrespect, lol)
I had no clue his nickname was P5. Legit no clue who you were talking about.
Given his stoopid soccer player name, he needs a nickname
@@_Michael_Scott And it’s 🅿️5️⃣
P5 is a stupid nickname 😂
@@daledilbeck9621 yes it is-even PB&J would be better than P5!🤔🤣
Please can y’all do time stamps?
Yeah, we need that Jason
Just watch the pod geesh
@@ronmcbride517 I did but I’d also like to have the option to use time stamps to skip to topics that interest me

Any part they bring up the kings ?
"Tyrese and Maxey", you know they are both called Tyrese, right? xD
Pointgod the.mvp
The legacy of miller and.manning (and luck) in jeopardy
17:55 JJs comedic chops are underrated so funny
The problem with the transparency argument is the Two minute report doesn’t fix anything… most of the time you can chalk it up to oh well but there’s times you look at the two minute report and see your team lost because of one last minute call and nothing happens
Agree that is one of the useless/waste of time thing by the NBA
The most you should legally do is put your hand (singular) on a player for as long as you might touch a hot stove. If you’re using 2 hands you should be calling for help bc you’re already beat.
i know this will be a long wait, but please try and get scottie barnes to interview :))
Ausar Thompson been cooking can we talk about him plz
I know this is off topic but can we please get an AD interview?
As always, gweat podcast guys. Love the content! 🤣👍
DERRICK WHITE is very underrated #NBA fowl for NOT having him on the top #100. Him or AL should be #SMOTY the way they contribute with winning plays!!!
I can’t believe you brought a dog onto the show 😤😤😤
Brother Halliburton, have you come to embrace the beam?
That ant & Hali draft class starting to look elite ... remember when scouts told us that was the worst class in 20 years safe to say it's already a elite class & guys haven't even started those 2nd contracts yet imagine how it's gonna look once all these guys get ready to retire . It's clear that ant & Hali the top guys in that class at this point can't see the top 2 changing either
maybe watch lamelo play in charlotte
I don’t believe the narrative that ”it’s the refs that are soft” just a few days ago when Edwards dunked on Saric the ref didn’t do anything until CP and Draymond started begging for a tech. You see players doing that all the time so we need to stop acting like it’s just the refs.
Love the hat, Tommy.
Parents did a great job with him you can tell.
Who is better, fox or haliburton?
Fox does what the Kings need him to do and Haliburton does what the Pacers need him to do. Both phenomenal players doing what they do best.
JJ you just had a Pod with Adam Silver Address the BS techs now
they literally talk about it this episode? 😂
@@gobblu whelp then Adam is just as bad a david stern in rigging the league
Guys we’re not talking about it
No Shawn Marion ?!?
