I love my fresh retwist or interlock. Nothing like it. I interlock every 3 months. Haven’t used gels for over 5 years on my locs. Just water and essential oils. Love how clean they look all the time
I just wanted to let you know that I had instant locs. HATED THEM! Cut them off and started again and I am LIVING for the frizz and the journey! Wish I started a long time ago! Started them the way I wanted to and will not be told anything ever again lol.
@@adrianna8281 Two ways to get instant locs: a person has their own hair loc'd using the crochet method or have loc extensions added to their hair if they have short hair using the crochet method. There are tools with one or more crochet hooks on the end that is used to instantly loc the hair.
I instant locd in month 3 with my own hair but they still got frizzy for me after while, so eventually just got used to it. I’ll be 3 years in Nov with 5 yr old shaved sides and 1 year for my undercut but they are struggling because apparently the back of my head is a lot straighter than the front and the middle so it’s taking forever to Loc.
Hey! One year, five months, and three days since you posted this...bbbuuuttt I only started following a few months ago and I just got to this video and wanna chime in tooo 🤭 so here's to being interactive lol *I love that you support black businesses! I've learned about a few new ones because of you. *I got my hair loc'd 2/14/23 🖤 (yay 5 months!) and have been getting retwists by a loctician every 4 to 5 weeks as recommended by my loctician. After 6 months (or closer to a year) I may push out to 6 to 8 weeks. *I'm from Long Island, NY ...lineage from Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹 (and to add to the rant: we're all BLACK just from different parts, flavors, stories but the same damn struggle. The faster we come together, the faster we can return to greatness) *After a retwist, I does feel NICE (hear that in 1st gen Trini American accent 😂) * and 💎💎💎💎 because I made it to the end of this video Ok....das it lol
I just did my first oil and water (aloe +rose water) retwist Sunday and I love it and it is the best yet ! It could be because I gave myself an ACV soak twice to remove the loc cream I was using. Never using cream again. When researching Retwists, some people were saying no to oils and I was Like wait a minute, I’m not about that life lol!! My year is in April and I love them so much especially because I started them and have been maintaining them. Thanks for the inspiration!
So glad I found your channel. I’m getting ready to start my loc journey and tryna learn as much as I can before I start. I’m a farmer out in the country where there aren’t too many locticians around so I’m glad you show a lot about maintaining your locs on your own. May much success and blessings continue to flow your way 🙏🏾
I just started watching Ready to Love, too! It’s great and I’m manifesting that for me this year💚💚 Sammy, I love watching your channel. You are helping me out so much. Im 3 months locd and I retwist every 3 weeks or so for right now. My hair is budding soooo fast. Im glad I started my journey myself this second time around with two strand twists! I hits different when you are in control of your own journey.
Fresh retwist brings out that extra personality 🤣 you know when you were a loose natural, you get your braids done and you be a whole new person.... yeah, hair flicks and confident energyyyyy
So cute how did the soft curls in the front 😍. To answer your question, I don’t retwist. My hair is on the finer side and med-thick size (some are kinda thick, some small). A lot of my locs are flat so twisted roots wouldn’t “match” anyway if that makes sense. I also just feel they don’t need it. My roots don’t really puff up, and they feel delicate so I don’t wanna add stress to them if I don’t see a benefit. I don’t have hair growing away from the loc so far, and my hair has been naturally locking about an inch away from the root. When I separate, I feel the roots and on occasion have twisted a few of the thinner ones, but overall I just leave it alone. I do admire a fresh retwist on others though!
Hey sis! I love the fact that you support black owned businesses. 😁 I actually started my own herbal haircare/skincare business. I actually have a few products for locs. I would love for you to try them.
i used to retwist like every 2 months or so, but i recently started semi freeforming sooo thats like 4 times a year maybe, and the reason why is because there was a time i skipped a retwist and loved how it looked thicker :3
I've just started my loc journey actually, the 5th of March I'm mixed, so I have different hair types all over my head, I'm aware that unraveling is normal and I'll just have to retwist I'm really excited for my journey I've been watching your videos and it's safe to say that it's beautifully informative, thank you ♡
Hey Sammy ur hair looks good either way! I love the free form look because my culture is Jamaican but I was born in California, love looking more natural. I retwist my hair every 3 to5 months. Just let my hair do it's own thing. I'm going on 5 years with my locs now and ever since I been following ur videos ur advice has been growing on me and my locs. Keep speaking to us.👍🏾
- haven’t loc’d my hair yet because i want more length 🫠 and there’s some straight hair styles i want to do still; lowkey high key worth it to me - i like that you don’t use clips.
i’m two months into my locs journey, so i try to retwist every 6-8 weeks. right now i’m waiting until 8 weeks (when i hit my three month mark). i love using the dr. bronners peppermint bar soap and rose water for my locs 🥰
Your small ones around your edge, did those come out and you restarted them in that area? I have very thin breakable ones around the corners of my edges.
I like the semi free form look on locs. It may not be for me but I'm trying to see. I have high porosity with medium to low density hair and I am praying for some volume. I started my locs with dime sized comb coils. #trustingtheprocess
I had to pause video and comment about ‘ready to love’ that is my show as of recently! I caught it during its current season, season 5, and went back and watched season 1. It’s very eye opening, mature and I love the concept. Both the women and men are attractive and successful 👌🏾✨love to see it!
Hey Sammy! I saw that you didn’t put anything on your matured section of your locs below the new growth and I was wondering if you spray this with your rose oil and aloe Vera juice spray or if you moisturize it a different way?? Love your channel content 💜
Love ur hair Sammie! Facts! You'd think that we all would be aware of the divide and conquer tactics by now. People, take off your armor and put down the weapons, it's time for self love y'all❤❤❤
Hey gurly! Quick question: Why do you put the wrap around the front of your hair after retwisting? I started my locs a few weeks ago, and I still don't understand the use for it.
Late but I’m here! Hey Sammy! 🥰 I’m coming off 2 strand twist curls so it’s almost time for a retwist. I’ll be happy when I get to the point of not using silver clips 🥴 I can’t get them to stay coiled on themselves just yet
Have you tried using a elastic/pontytail holder? Like, after retwisting a section, throw it in a loose-ish ponytail then retwist and tuck as you go. Bc you def. have the length for it
I haven't had to do a ACV wash yet but i wash my hair every 4 weeks n retwist once a month some times i do it a month in a half i need to find a new oils to use I had a break out from one oil and idk which one it is
Genuine question for yall...do locs get heavy? If so, at what lengths does it feel heavy for you guys? Also would y'all consider this a low maintenance hair style? I decided I wanna start locs in a few months, but I'm letting my hair grow out since I've been shaving it off!
Well said. I’m dominicana and Taínos are our ancestors. And their skin color was brown, doesn’t mean they were from Africa. Brown skin was The first color skin from the beginning. There is no black skin anyways. Being African is an honor to Africans not a curse. Just like an proud to be an American from the DP(which is an island in the American continent)
I have a mirror but rarely use it for retwisting outside of watching the transformation in real time. But yea, I just grab and go. Senses activated. Allowing touch to guide me. Your fingers know what retwist vs. “not” feels like.

I retwist around a month and a half unless a holiday pops up a week or two earlier.
