  • Sudan, ancient Nubia, is home to many unique natural and archaeological treasures. This land of the black pharaohs has even has more pyramids than its famous neighbour, Egypt - yet there are no visitors, no tourists, and no foreign travellers. Cut off from the rest of the world, Sudan, a former save haven for international terrorists, is now one of the most unstable countries on the planet.
Since gaining independence in 1956, the country has experienced 18 coup attempts. After thirty years under the military-Islamist dictatorship of Omar al-Bashir, Sudan experienced a brief period of democracy in 2019. This was short-lived however, as the country was subject to a new coup which bought General al-Burhan and his military junta to power in October 2021. Since then, Sudan has been completely closed off from the rest of the world.
Every week, thousands of citizens gather around the country to protest coup d’état - and women are the face of this revolution. They yearn for freedom after years of suffering under military dictatorship and sharia law, where they were routinely flogged and humiliated. One women explained her involvement in the fight for freedom, “We distribute these paint cans around the neighbourhood to announce our protests and we will write slogans in favour of the revolution”. By spraying these words of dissent around the city, these women risk prison and torture. Although the protesters know that they will be fiercely repressed and try to protect themselves the best they can, they can only make do with temporary shields and plastic helmets. Nothing to shelter them from the live bullets shot by the army - which even target doctors and young children. All the while, they run the risk falling victim to the relentless arbitrary arrests.
The political crisis has also worsened the economic situation with inflation rate running at 380%. Even before the coup, Sudan was one of the poorest countries in the world, now however, even middle-class people are finding it increasingly difficult to survive. More than two million city-dwellers have left to seek their fortune in the desert just to get by. There, they hope to find a few nuggets of gold to change their life…

This documentary looks like it was made before April 2023 war as it mentions the then ongoing pro Democracy protests happening in Khartoum at the time. From the description that mentions the October 2021 military coup, it looks like it might've been made right after. The other thing some of scenes are blurred so its difficult to tell what's going on.

It is no surprised to see the uprising that is taking place in Sudan is pretty much Western-backed Syrian-style protest since the current government is trying to getting closer to Russia and China ever since the coup. Sudan is extremely important point in Red Sea after Somalia, so the US needs the instability and war to keep going on over there. Economically developed Sudan will lead to increase in Military development, which is bad for Western allies, mainly Israel... and Saudi. This kind of report, is what reminds me to 2011 Syrian uprising we see too often. I do not say it is wrong, it is just another "Western Journalism"...

Im sudanese and i can see clearly from this documentary that there are alot of thing's that are not shown in this documentary for example you didn't even mentioned hemedti which was the main reason of this war since he became vice-president.

Your report is prepared for a purpose and favour of some one or some group. I am Sudanese and I do not agree with all of what is being said here. If you really think about peace and stability for my beloved country you should be fair in your saying. Other wise you do not make a change your report make the situation worst. Think and accept what I have said.

why do you have to blur a scene with protesters on a street? at 24:23 for example all that is happening is tear gas canisters moving towards the crowd..why over-censor the content? it degrades my watching experience. who ever got demonetized from a gas canister in the air? i know you can show that on youtube...thumbs down

There were a Bunch of things in that frame, and youtube will tell you to cover it, even if there is just one little thing, thats iffy in their books. Go complaine to RUclips.

If you were in such a situation you would understand it’s much more than a “tear gas canister” moving towards the crowd. Sudan is my homeland but I am the luckiest of people to escape via Egypt witch took months

If they didn't blur it out then it's likely that RUclips would takedown the video. In some cases it could be to protect the identities of the protestors. They got the point across perfectly well without needing to provide the gory images for you to gawk at.
