For $4500 a month, you could live in an apartment, or indeed a detached house, that has 3 bedrooms, separate living room, kitchen and dining room, in Minato-ku, the wealthiest ward of Tokyo, the wealthiest city on the planet... and still have enough money left over to max out the balance on a Suica or Pasmo card 3 times over, to make full use of Tokyo's public transport system, which is vastly superior, in every respect, to that of New York

The U.S. has had plenty of homeless Americans for as long as I can remember. Of course, NYC has always had a lot of homeless Americans, and I recall being in NYC in the 1980s as Reagan was emptying out the hospitals and NYC was shooing homeless away from the touristy areas. I saw people sleeping in doorways, in cardboard boxes, and on the bare ground outside. It was horrific.
In my own city there are plenty of homeless Americans, and the city will tell anyone that there is no such thing as "emergency shelter" except for "the walk-in," i.e. the homeless shelter which is a very dangerous place to go. Plenty of people will stay outside on the street rather than go into the walk-in. Just last Winter I saw plenty of people here who were homeless but fortunate enough to own a motor vehicle sleeping in their vehicles even after the temp dropped well below freezing.
In 2022, my 80 year old neighbour was forced out of his 2/1 rental property where he had lived for 30 years. The owner decided to turn the property into a short term rental for out of town visitors. My neighbour literally had no where to go with no living relatives except for 1-2 in their 90s in Virginia. His SS was not enough to qualify for even the tiniest apartment. He was getting ready to live out of his ancient van. Then someone he knew who owned a small business emptied out a small storage room in the business and let him move in with a roll-a-way bed and a space heater. There was no kitchen and no loo. He had to take out a gym membership in order to have somewhere to bathe and shave each day. He stayed in that tiny room like a hamster in a cage for 22 months whilst a social worker put him on a list for another place. After 22 months he finally secured a room inside of a house where he shared the kitchen and the loo with several other people.
After a few months in this group home situation arose, he finally secured a 1/1 in a high rise building, but it is also temporary. He now has a minimum FOUR YEAR wait to get into another apartment complex that has nursing staff and assisted living, which is where he belongs now in his mid 80s with health problems, but as I said, he is looking at a minimum FOUR YEAR wait before something opens up. Meanwhilst, he will remain in a third floor 1/1 alone, but he is very happy to have it of course. So, I am talking about AMERICANS born and raised here with relatives that go back for generations. I am talking SENIORS sleeping rough or sleeping in a store room with no kitchen or loo because the only alternatives are to either sleep in their vehicles or go into the infamous "walk-in." If the business owners had not taken pity on my 80 neighbour in 2022, he literally would have been sleeping in his van.
Yet, our city and state governments are doing this! Talk about a knife in the back of tax paying Americans!!!
Ive worked hard for many years to retire. I paid taxes for years. To hear immigrants living in more beautiful homes than i makes me lose even more respect for government.

I work 2 jobs and was denied a housing voucher. And had my name on 9 different low income apartments bout 4 months ago and still haven't heard not a word from anybody. I'm a single dad of 3 with no help and no family. This is disgusting to even live here anymore

In florida you could legit rent an older house 3/2 or a new manufacture home (pretty much a mobile home with new furnishings quartz countertops etc etc) for 1500 a month.... Im from jersey and most of my family came down here the only ones that stayed inherited property.

I am sorry to tell you this will never happen. I lived there for 22 years. There are so many people who will live penny to penny, barely have enough to eat can barely afford to even live there but they will puff themselves with pride and vote blue no matter who. I am serious- the brainwashing from dems and utter lack of messaging or even effort from Republicans is to blame. You see the only conservatives left are in Long Island or what’s left of Staten Island. But these conservatives will eventually move when they can’t afford to live there anymore. A few years ago I chuckled at some people calling the US a "Tax Farm", sadly, it seems like those people were right.

A friend researched the NYC charter regarding the "sanctuary" law. It appears that is for residents of NY State only. Let's remember charter buses arriving non stop from Florida and Texas overburdened NYC. I am a NYer. I live within walking distance to the apartment building turned shelter on Waldo Avenue in the Bronx. You may be interested to know that apartment building was being used as a dormitory residence for Manhattan College students. On Bailey Avenue in the Bronx between W. 238th Street and Van Cortlandt Park West a private house was torn down and a 13 unit studio apartment building was built. Unfortunately, we found out that the owners of the next four private houses have been sold and will also be torn down and turned into migrant housing. That will be a total of 5 migrant/homeless shelter buildings in a row next to my apartment building. There is also another migrant shelter apartment building on Orloff Avenue right up the staircase aldo bext to my building. The rent for the studio apartment building on Bailey Avenue is over $3K a month per apartment. Guess who is paying those rents? Not them! The landlords are riding on the NYS/NYC gravy train. They don't care. They don't live in the neighborhoods they build while they pocket profits at our expense.
Can you imagine how bad those apartments are going to be trashed when they all leave the apartments.

I'm from Maine and my state couldn't help my family and I because they started moving migrants into the shelters and housing. Funny thing was they always told us that there wasn't any housing.
There was no housing for YOU. But theres housing for these migrants because it benefits the people running the show in some way. Anyone with half a brain sees that this is just futile efforts in the long term. How long will it take these migrants to get things rolling to a point where they can be self sufficient. Many of these migrants will very likely become dependent on the government support for life, i think the majority will end up homeless and only a small few will get the ball rolling and actually be able to sustain themselves within the city. This is going to become a long term disaster. The dems didnt think any of this out at all past the virtue signalling.

Interesting!!!! I’m a delivery driver and I’ve noticed lots of migrants moving into apartment complexes in my state. The noticeable is loud music and talking that wasn’t there a year ago. The languages and living style. Many stand out doors in groups being really loud. Once was quiet and peaceful in the evening or nights is now louder.
