    The new singer is Jordan John and he is a killer guitar player and drummer. I don't know if Mimi is going to let him show off his prowess on the instruments he plays at a high level. His dad is Prakash John a wonderful groove bass player who is played with some top groups in the US and Canada including a stint with the legendary Alice Cooper. I have had the opportunity to follow father and son. Saw them play together in my home town of Ottawa last winter. They opened with Don't Change Horses In the Middle of A Stream. Appropriate that Jordan ended up as the new vocalist of TOP. I hope he has a good run with them.

      Yes, Prakash is a tremendous player...going back to Manadala, Bush, the Lincolns and his time with Alice Cooper and Lou Reed. He and Whitey Glann in particular were a great groove team.
      Interesting to see Jordan now fronting ToP.

      Yeah legendary family. I used to watch The Lincolns on Tuesday nights at Lido's in the Beaches. Sometimes there were less than 20 other people there. The guys were just keeping their chops up. Unreal how talented they all are (incl Jorn Anderson on drums). And you could watch them while sipping a $4 beer. Life was good.

      Jordan definitely deserves All good things that come his way! I think Mimi appreciates his gifted new addition to the group! I believe he’ll let Jordan shine. It will only benefit Everyone involved.
      Jordan, like al the members of TOP, is in a league of his own!!!

    David Garibaldi will always be TOPs drummer but this new drummer is bringing a nice funky sound to the mix. Previous replacement drummers tended to lean on the beat but I'm hearing a nice laid-back feel. 👍

    Just found this. Looks to me like there's a bit of new energy (and relief) on that stage. Transition from DG, Rocco, LB has been evolving into what I think will keep them alive for a good while. Mimi looks a bit younger than when I saw him a year ago, and he appears to be re-energized. Doc is Doc. Jordan has the sound of Lenny, especially once he becomes more comfortable. Dennis is great, but DG will always hold the driving funk title. What a group of pros!

    It is probably not easy to find a young singer who can dial into the funk and groove that is TOP. They weren't even alive in the 70's. I don't care for the drummer on this show. Pretty bland. Pete Antunes is the best so far....smokin good and funky. As close to DG as you will probably get.
    As a whole they still sound great. Tight. Still got the groove going. Will they ever be exactly like they were in the 70's? No and we shouldn't expect that. They're still a high quality band.....unlike some old bands that are still playing. Oh like the Stones. My gawd they need to just hang it up. They charge a fortune for tickets and they sound horrible. Sorry Stones fans but it's the truth.

    The new lead has a decent voice but he needs to drop the security blanket guitar because it is pretty obvious he isn't actually playing it.

    • @alcambrola2834
      @alcambrola2834 6 месяцев назад +1

      Good observation. He does play very well if you watch his videos.

    • @chrisose
      @chrisose 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@alcambrola2834 I did go look at a couple of his other videos and so long as he is not singing his playing is not bad but once he starts singing the either stops playing or drops to a very basic rhythm. This makes him picking up the guitar with TOP pretty pointless especially since what he does manage to play will likely to clash with what Jerry is doing.
      The other thing I noticed is that he seems to have very little connection to the rest of the band. He's not using in-ear monitors so he stays fixed to primarily to the down-left position, occasionally moving to down-right. He needs to spend time studying videos of Larry Braggs and Ray Greene to see how to not only how to better work the crowd but connect himself to the band instead of treating them like his backup band.

    • @alcambrola2834

      You make good points. Being a ToP fan for 50 years and have been to almost 100 shows you wonder how long they can keep the train rolling? To me, the lineup from "Back to Oakland" was the best and of course they were young. Lenny Williams was my favorite front man. I also liked Larry, Ray Greene and even Brent Carter. I saw them in October with Mike Jerel and it was terrible. Nothing against Mike. Hope they can right the ship.@@chrisose

      . I totally agree. Fan since their 1st album, I have all their discography, all their dvds and have been to maybe 40 concerts.
      To me, and I don't want to sound biased or racial, but TOP is a SOUL band. They need that soul sound that black singers that you mentioned bring to the band. The White singers, even though they sound great, just don't cut it. It misses that certain soulless TOP needs. If this is the new guy, I don't see him lasting, and I've been usually right on my predictions. He can sing the song... but he doesn't have that stage presence like the other great singers like Larry and Lenny did.
      Marcus Scott was my least favorite singer. To me, he sounded like if Kevin Hart knew how to sing. Plus he was about the same size too! Lol. I hated that TOP used him to record a few of their latest cds.
      I just heard David has finally hung up his boots. DANG!! That's like the chili spices missing from the chili beans! I'm listening to this guy, and he only keeps the beat to the songs. No funky quirky off-beats like David. I hope they just don't settle for anyone. It HAS to be a Garibaldi-like drummer! Here's hoping for the best!🤞🤞

    • @alcambrola2834
      @alcambrola2834 6 месяцев назад +1

      I totally agree. With an African American singer they are more soulful. To me, Marcus Scott didn't cut it either. I saw them in October backed by the RI Philharmonic Orchestra and it was blase. Nothing against Mike Jerel but he didn't cut the mustard either. Stage presence is very important fronting a band like this. It might be time for them to call it a day. Hate to say it but they seem tired and the Funky Doctor doesn't look well.@@oldschoolfunkster1

    I would MUCH rather hear the instrumental soloist than the the horns "backing him" with the same 3 or 4 notes blasted over it. Maybe it's the person running the sound board that needs to hear this, IDK.

    • @JonAnthony3
      @JonAnthony3 6 месяцев назад +4

      Let me put it this way: The HORN SECTION is Tower of Power, NOT the new lead holding the guitar. The sound, well it’s RUclips n off probably someone’s cell phone so consider that audio reality. It’s RnB Funk music, a bit old school and it’s NOT about the lyrics. Maybe just not a fit to your ears. Been fit to my ears since 1970.
