Great British rock band formed in 1963. They had some big hits such as "Somebody Help Me", "Keep On Running", "When I Come Home" etc. Steve Winwood & his brother started out in this group. He left in 1967 to form the rock band Traffic & a few years later Blind Faith.

Stevie Winwood was just a kid when he was in SDG. Incredible singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter.

Dude was 17 or 18 when he sang and wrote this. 14 when he joined the Spencer Davis Group. Still going strong too. Awesome. Chicago did an amazing cover of this.

Steve Winwood wrote the song and played the organ and sang .The song was a hit in the United Kingdom and the United States, reaching No. 9 and No. 10, respectively. It has been recorded by many other performers over the years, most successfully by Chicago, whose version charted at No. 8 in the UK in 1970 and No. 49 in the US in 1971. So the song was a bigger hit for Spenser Davis than anyone else

You wouldn’t believe how much British bands in the 60s loved the blues.
When the animals got to America some blues legends were unsure of them, until they realised they knew and loved the blues. 👍🏽👍❤
Love your reaction. Van Morrison - Them had the same love.

I like this version of "I'm A Man" best. It was also done by Chicago. You're right my friend "Real Claps" no sampled compressed ones. Thanks for reacting to this one. Peace.

Check out the Chicago version too when you can. Where this version is three minutes long, the album track from Chicago runs nearly eight minutes. SDG dropped the song before I was born. I don't recall when I first heard the song, probably listening to the radio sometime in the late seventies early eighties. But it could have been the Chicago version. The Yardbirds recorded a song titled "I'm a Man" too, but it's a different song, a cover of Bo Diddley song.

This is the version I remember. Steve Winwood (vocals & keyboard) is not just white, he''s British white 😁 Also the lead singer with the group Traffic which was very popular in the 70s. I have several of their albums. Steve also had a successful solo career. Here's one of his hits with Tina Turner backup...... HIgher Love ruclips.net/video/k9olaIio3l8/видео.html

Thanks mugs, I meant to say that it was a hit by Spenser Davis Group and 2 other bands. I believe one was Chicago (Transit Authority). Steve Winwood I believe and Miller were the writers, R and B Style.

Not so... the original was a huge hit, even though some of the covers are great (especially Chicago). I was 13 and remember it like yesterday. This was Stevie Winwood's entrance into the world of rock, of which he has left a huge impression, from Spencer Davis, to Blind Faith, to Traffic, to a very successful solo career in the '80's and since.
