  • This is my latest and greatest phonograph find to date, a rare and elusive Art Model phonograph made by the Sonora Company of New York City, New York. Back in the teens and early 20's these ultra top of the line models were produced for wealthy customers, by most of the major companies. This particular Model was called the Jacobean De-Luxe Robespierre. I would estimate the production date as between 1920 and 1924. Because of the high price of these models, they were made to order and not stocked in the Dealer Showrooms. Compared to the standard priced Sonoras, very very few of these Art Model phonographs were sold, so they are extremely rare to find today. Let's take a look at some of the features. Including this handy electric light, which went on when you opened the large lid. It also came with the exclusive patented carved Wooden Tone arm, a motor meter that told you exactly how many record you could play until it was time to crank up the motor again. The cabinet with its ornate carvings was in Walnut and Polychrome. Sonora also supplied the buyer of this model with semi-permanent steel, diamond, and sapphire Needles to play the various types of lateral and vertical records that were made during that time period. Inside the cabinet is mounted one of the largest motors of its time, a heavy triple spring, gold plated motor, capable of playing 45 minutes, or fifteen ten-inch records with one winding. the Sonora Patented record filing system had the capacity for 80 records. Enjoy the Selection of a Early Paul Whiteman as well!
