  • Today I look at creating an informal rustic display of spring magnolia in bloom pussy willow into a tall tin container. This design can be created using either fresh or artificial material.
    Things to gather:
    - Tall tin bucket or a size to suit
    - Foam to fill tin
    - Branches of magnolia
    - Leaves of magnolia
    - Stems of pussy willow

Do you have any tips for preserving magnolias. I’ve been toying with different ways to dry/preserve full magnolia flowers and seem to be struggling to get any definitive answers! I’ve tried pressing them which is a mess, I’ve tried air drying I’m experimenting with salt and silica. I also tried dripping in plaster of Paris which looks beautiful for about a day but crumples and cracks, But if you have any tips that would be amazing!!!

Hello Ashlee, I've been faced with the exact same problem and I'm feeling your frustration. I've applied a zillion and 1 different techniques over the years and the RESULT? FAIL. So when I was creating my new range of silk flowers this flower was the first. There are two up on my website www.prestigebotanicals.com and I think by the end of this week there will be a long branch and seriously cute mini bloom. Even though they are artificial VISUALLY you can tell and they don't drop their petals. Perfect solution. Take care, keep safe Astar

Astar's Place thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Hmm! Well if you have had no luck I’m sure I won’t be able to find anything lol! But if I happen to stumble across something that works I will report back! I had a look at your flowers and they are definitely the most life like magnolias I have seen, so I may just have to purchase some! They are so beautiful but so damn delicate!!! Thank you again and take care!
