Christmas is not about gifts. I am 38 and honestly I don’t remember every single thing I got for Christmas but I do remember the memories and the feeling. Crystal… you Shelly aaron and Jared are thee most wonderful people. Always giving… giving every inch of yourselves. Raising great humans…. And gives me faith that there’s is more good than bad.
Unfortunately, with her being a mom and wanting her kids to have better memories than she likely grew up with ? Mom guilt does tend to be a thing. I wish that it wasn't but they've had an especially rough month, so that likely didn't help either.

Once upon a time, I always had the most magical Christmas every year and now at 26 years old and no family, I spent the day completely by myself (well my dog was with me too) trying to put my mind on anything other than past Christmases. The reason I’m telling you this is because at the end of the day, it isn’t about the presents or who got what - it is about who you are with and who you love/are loved by. I know your kids had the most magical Christmas just by feeling loved by you and Aaron. ❤️ Merry Christmas, Crystal. I long for a family like yours.

I don't think you could have tried harder. You have a very big family and with moving and settling in, it was all you could do. Then add decorating for Christmas (which looked awesome) buying furniture and unpacking you did FANTASTIC. The kids know this. Being together and having such live and support for each other means the world to your children. We all could see everyone was very happy. That is a big success there.

I really do understand where you're coming from with wanting to do all the things you usually do, and feeling like that's the special thing, but gifts aren't the thing that makes Christmas. You guys have had an absolutely EXHAUSTING time moving in and dealing with whatever else behind the scenes, and it's time to give yourself some grace. It's time to say, it is what it is, and to just take a moment to really and truly breath and look around at what you have already, and talk to the kids about the real meaning of Christmas (which isn't gifts). CHRISTmas isn't about gifts. You had all your loved ones and made memories. That's what you keep telling us, it's all about the memories. This year was the first Christmas in 6 years I finally had my son, who was stationed in Germany home for Christmas. No gifts were given but memories were made❤

Christal, I fill you. My husband and I were both sick Dec 1 -18 I even had to have 911 called to take me to the hospital. Then with all our sickness my husband had to take his Dad to the hospital 2 times. N law got home on Christmas Eve. We put up our tree on Dec. 22. I have 8 boxes of Christmas decorations. I only did my tree and only a handful of ornaments, just enough for my four year old grandson to enjoy. But I would hate to have to move at Christmas. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

We are celebrating Christmas late because I lost my job and my husband just started a job we went on Christmas eve and got them 1 thing this year. I felt like this also this year also. But I keep reminding myself everything happens for a reason we may not know the reason at the time but eventually it falls into to place. You are both amazing parents and people in general. Christmas doesn't have to be a production. It is not about the expensive gifts or lots of gifts. I realise you want your kids to have a wonderful time and a wonderful life, but they already do. I am 61 years old and I can barely remember any Christmas gifts I received growing up, but I do remember family times together and the fun and love at Christmas. I have moved 26 times in 29 years and it is hard and tiring and sometimes traumatic. Give yourself a break, you don't need to be perfect, you just need to be present and you both are. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a great New Year and amazing 2025.
When my oldest son was a little guy, I noticed no matter how many presents he received, He was just fascinated with the very first gift he opened. So after that, I stopped getting lots of gifts. By the time both sets of Grandparents bought their first Grandbaby presents and all the aunts and uncles bought him presents, all he wanted to play with was that very first present. So, I tried to make that first present very special. Something that would keep him interested for a long time. It is amazing what crayons and a paper tablet will inspire. He is now a teacher of animation at two colleges in Arizona. ASU and Mesa Community college. I have known that he would truly be an artist by the time he was two years old, when he would ask me to sit for him, so he could draw a picture of me!

I get your feelings. Try to give yourself lots of love, leeway and grace. You moved soooo close to Christmas, not only that but a large large family so it was bound to be chaotic and feel overwhelming. Any normal move is but yours was super big and downsizing to boot. Lots of emotions in a downsize and a move, normally. yes, next year will be much better (meaning the way you expect it to be) because you will be settled in, not so overwhelmed and ready for the season. You won't get everything in place so quickly after a move, especially with all of you. Like you said, Christmas is about people, sharing love, time with each other. The stuff is 2ndary so I bet with all that said, everyone had a more meaningful Christmas with one another than ever before because of all that was going on and people do realize that. Love and hugs. Christmas plans were changed at the last minute, family members were sick and then I couldn’t get the pie I wanted (my husbands favorite) so I just broke down and had a really good cry 😭. After that, I felt much better and plenty of happy memories were made. We got some great pictures and I am feeling truly grateful. Sometimes you gotta just let the tears flow…❤️

CHRISTmas isn't about gifts. You had all your loved ones and made memories. That's what you keep telling us, it's all about the memories. This year was the first Christmas in 6 years I finally had my son, who was stationed in Germany home for Christmas. No gifts were given but memories were made❤

Great memories to talk about meanings, also I really love your new house with a huge backyard. You can actually put one of those big beautiful tents out there and have the greatest parties and it’s so versatile you can do all kinds of neat things all the best for the transformations coming ahead.

Just try and remember how happy your kids are for whatever Christmas you all provide, because it is far happier and safer and more loving, than so many of them had before they became yours. Christal, I fill you. My husband and I were both sick Dec 1 -18 I even had to have 911 called to take me to the hospital. Then with all our sickness my husband had to take his Dad to the hospital 2 times. N law got home on Christmas Eve. We put up our tree on Dec. 22. I have 8 boxes of Christmas decorations. I only did my tree and only a handful of ornaments, just enough for my four year old grandson to enjoy. But I would hate to have to move at Christmas. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Don't beat your self up crystal. This year went by so fast. We are celebrating Christmas late because I lost my job and my husband just started a job we went on Christmas eve and got them 1 thing this year. I felt like this also this year also. But I keep reminding myself everything happens for a reason we may not know the reason at the time but eventually it falls into to place. You are both amazing parents and people in general. There is always bumps in life we just get over them and continue on. Love from the Holland family

Christmas doesn't have to be a production. It is not about the expensive gifts or lots of gifts. I realise you want your kids to have a wonderful time and a wonderful life, but they already do. I am 61 years old and I can barely remember any Christmas gifts I received growing up, but I do remember family times together and the fun and love at Christmas. I have moved 26 times in 29 years and it is hard and tiring and sometimes traumatic. Give yourself a break, you don't need to be perfect, you just need to be present and you both are. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a great New Year and amazing 2025.

When my oldest son was a little guy, I noticed no matter how many presents he received, He was just fascinated with the very first gift he opened. So after that, I stopped getting lots of gifts. By the time both sets of Grandparents bought their first Grandbaby presents and all the aunts and uncles bought him presents, all he wanted to play with was that very first present. So, I tried to make that first present very special. Something that would keep him interested for a long time. It is amazing what crayons and a paper tablet will inspire. He is now a teacher of animation at two colleges in Arizona. ASU and Mesa Community college. I have known that he would truly be an artist by the time he was two years old, when he would ask me to sit for him, so he could draw a picture of me!

I get your feelings. Try to give yourself lots of love, leeway and grace. You moved soooo close to Christmas, not only that but a large large family so it was bound to be chaotic and feel overwhelming. Any normal move is but yours was super big and downsizing to boot. Lots of emotions in a downsize and a move, normally. yes, next year will be much better (meaning the way you expect it to be) because you will be settled in, not so overwhelmed and ready for the season. You won't get everything in place so quickly after a move, especially with all of you. Like you said, Christmas is about people, sharing love, time with each other. The stuff is 2ndary so I bet with all that said, everyone had a more meaningful Christmas with one another than ever before because of all that was going on and people do realize that. Love and hugs. Christmas plans were changed at the last minute, family members were sick and then I couldn’t get the pie I wanted (my husbands favorite) so I just broke down and had a really good cry 😭. After that, I felt much better and plenty of happy memories were made. We got some great pictures and I am feeling truly grateful. Sometimes you gotta just let the tears flow…❤️

I have been feeling like I was ruining Christmas too! You are not alone! I am crying with you!! My adopted son was so excited for Christmas this year and we had so many activities planned, but we were unable to do them all. He was sad because he's 4 and it broke my heart.😢

Your kids don't love you for the gifts you give them but for the love, stability, and strength you bring into their lives. That is what will stay with them. Yes traditions are special and we all love to stick to our traditions. However, this year, you've had to pivot and do things a little differently. There's nothing wrong with that.
