I understand that many prefer V1 as it offers the "finished" bass sound straight out of the box. You can also do a lot wrong with the mid control. But it's no problem to set the scooped mid sound you're used to from the V1 Bass Driver with the V2 version of the pedal. And if you're looking for something different, V2 has significantly more options. That's why I'm glad that V2 exists.
Doesnt the original BDDI EQ (with no mids) sort of naturally have a mid scooped EQ? Im sure by playing around with the mid knobs more on the V2, they would sound pretty similar.
Indeed, I had the BDDI v1 for many many years and I was always frustrated with the strong mid scoop. That's why I only sent the SansAmp signal FOH and gave myself significantly more mids on the amp. I am very pleased with the V2 of the bass driver and the many possibilities that the mid control offers.
Could you please do the same comparison but this time with the mids of the v2 completely turned off ? It should produce the same sounds as the v1 with the same positions.
Sansamp has stated that the mids control set to 500 at 11 o’clock on the V2 is the same settings the mids on V1 is set at. They are practically the same pedal people. One just has a mids knob.
I bought the V1 used in new condition with the still old original box! Built around 1990, I paid €100,- (euro's)for me purely a preamp and to make the sound a little fatter in the mix or live if I don't bring my own bass amp or for recording or with my other effects on the pedal board! This one first in the chain? then compressor, octaver & chorus? myself a fan of old versions.. Would you like your opinion good deal for the money? I use old Fender P & J basses and a 5 string fretless greetings Fred
Well, l will put mine at the end of the trail. Because of the DI output. So I have firstly : - Tuner WAZA série - Keeley Bass Compressor - Boss Octaver OC-5 - Sansamp v2 (on the way 😊)
Cool comparison. Both Sansamp pedals sound good, but I prefer v2. Mainly because of the added mid control. The para driver is another great preamp from tech 21 to use on bass.
The V2 is for 5 or 6 string basses. V1 for 4 is optimal. I tried a V1 on a 5 string bass and the 5th string sounds broken. On the V2, it sounds excellent.
Minor annoyance... pedals are listed in description as 'Version 1' and 'Version 2', thumbnailed as such, then miraculously swap places during the presentation... but, still a cool side-by-side comparison.
@@mouthmw Nah, not drowned. You turn the bass up, plenty of highs. Add a compressor after in the chain without using the xlr out (since it's capped anyway). If anything, the v2 has an embarrassing output level that turns to farty mud. At least in this demonstration. I'll stick with my v1. Never drowned in any mix I make, and I'm a bassist first.
A lot of people preferring the V1 here just shows you that they prefer the "bedroom tone". Scooped, no mids, drowned in the band mix. Yeah no s$ Sherlock it sounds smoother, it HAS NO MIDS.
Idk... Seems like like the V1 has more attack popping through and the V2 otherwise sounds similar, without the attack... At least in this demo. With the drive up, the v2 has more distortion on its own, but there are other ways to get that. With these drums, the v2 also leaves more room for the cymbals.
If you know how to mix, v1 is a no-brainer. You seem pretty worked up about complete strangers on the internet with your bedroom comment. Maybe you oughta get some sleep, sport, yeah?

Wow, what a difference. I prefer V1 as well.
Simple but very good information. This comparison tell me a lot. I have old one. Thank you. This is hello from Japan
V1 by far!

V1 for the win ❤
And the sansamp drive programable? 🤔
I wonder if you reduced the mid in the v2, would it sound more like the v1?
SOOOOOOO glad to have V1 ... SMOOTHER AND MORE "BASSY"

yep, another vote for v1

I want to try the Q strip so bad it has parametric eq and 2 separate frequency options
Great thanks!
The V1 is far more articulate to me. V1 for the win. The V2 has a fuzzy drive that I’m not a fan of.
The V-Ton BDI21 from Behringer sounds similar to SansAmp V1 for onle $39 bucks.
More than 80 % vote V1 so tech 21 hope you watch this poll
Between these two pedals and MXR DI Preamp, what you prefer?
V1 sounds warmer to me, v2 more rasp.
The V1 its more warm and open

It’s the added midrange control and presence
Can the v2 sound like the v1 by adjusting the mid control or using the mid cut setting?
Thank you for your comment. :D
I thought that v2 couldn't bring out the mellowness of v1...
@@onbassonbass3342 can you do a video trying to get both to sound as close as possible?
I will think about it. :D

V1 All day

V1 is better!
V2!
V one sounds the best..........
V1 sits better in a mix
Gets drowned in the mix you mean, it's not called "the scoop machine" for nothing.

I’m sure to get similar tones on the V2 by just cutting the mids and taming the trebles.
