  • An influx of international music tourists attending concerts and festivals in the UK led to more then £8bn being spent in 2023.
The total number of people attending live music events across the UK from abroad was 19.2 million - an increase of 33% on 2022 when the figure was 14.4 million.
But despite the growth in music tourism, independent events and grassroots music venues say they are still struggling.

And as a result, none of us in the UK can really reasonably afford tickets anymore. Even to a lot of the smaller festivals or ones that were once considered accessible only a few short years ago. Summer plans for the vast majority of us, completely up ended, unless we are prepared to spend the equivalent of a ‘reasonably priced phone’ for just ‘one ticket’.
THIS IS INSANITY. This is also massively caused by only a few companies buying up the ownerships to a huge amount of internationally recognised UK festivals and hiking up the prices, seeing them as another big cash grab. As a result, these festivals are all about the few big headliners and the up and comers just aren’t able to make it there anymore that people are trying to just as much as the big stage stars.😞 It’s all being ruined.

I hope it will help tourism in the UK, as the country is at the bottom in the European chart. Wonder why.... It is not the prices... but the feeling that this is not the UK but something else

Now think how good it could be if over 40 festivals hadnt been closed down this year in the UK and if companies like Live nation and ticket master didnt have the monopoly - governments and councils all love the boost to the economy and music scene now but just a few years ago we were all utterly abandoned by the government financially and told to diversify and retrain … every person attending a gig anywhere in this country should think them selves very lucky they can still experience gigs and festivals because its a miracle any of the local production companies and musicians financially survived the last few years.

We need some kind of improvement in the economy, with prices higher than in 2022-23, causing issues with the cost of living.

In general, except Germany, Czechia and Poland, rest of the Europe including the UK, is a yuge br0thel located in scenic places of historical importance, for the rich people of the world. Sure there are exceptions but only in terms of succesful metropolitan clusters (London), but the rule applies to the majority.

Western Music doesn't appeal to me. I prefer K-Pop from South Korea. There is a very successful system over there, that allows idol to interact with fans both domestically and internationally, with also promoting over multiple weeks on various music shows, variety shows, radio shows, and more. Plus, a lot of them do tours now too, including to the UK. Plus, during COVID, K-Pop found a way to still promote to the wider world via live streaming without crowds, and sell tickets online to concerts and more.

The UK is pretty good at financial services, luxury cars and goods, motorsports and aerospace; pharmaceuticals and consumer goods, and offshore wind.
The core architecture behind almost all mobile CPUs and MacBooks is designed by the company ARM, which was founded and operates in Cambridge. Nvidia (currently the most valuable company in the world) tried to buy them up for $40 billion the other year but the deal fell through, partly because of anti-trust concerns. They're currently worth $170 billion and are the company with the 72nd highest net worth in the world, just slightly behind McDonalds at $180 billion. Another company based in Cambridge is the pharmaceutical giant Astrazeneca, they're the 43rd largest in the world and are worth $245 billion. Three other top 100 companies are based in London: HSBC, Unilever and Shell.
