This could be a showreel of Tarsem Singh's work. Losing My Religion should have been in there too. But then, the aesthetic of 90s alternative music video was always in a way Parajanov's style because it was a montage sequence of beautiful cinemtography, examples like Anton Corbijn, Mark Romanek, and Jonathan Glazer's videos. But none of it has the meaning of Parajanov's vision.

Losing my religion has more references of Tarkovsky. While his film The fall has a couple more references of Parajanov's work.

I actually don't see too many direct correlations with these examples and Parajanov's work (especially Midsommer), but that FIRST example with Lady Gaga- just WOAH. It almost makes my blood boil to see it. There's a difference between referencing and honoring someone else's work and flat out replicating it frame to frame.

To his credit Tarsem did put "Armenian Film Festival" on the marquee of the theater in the Lady Gaga video, which is how I found out about this film.

All this time I thought ´that Tarsem Singh was an artist with a unique visual style. Turns out he just stole from Sergei Parajanov! What a let-down!

He didn't steal anything. His style is of course an inspiration of sergej parandzanov work but he adds things of the Indian culture for example and other cultures that are absolutely unique.
The fall (2006) is a pure masterpiece.
