Hello Paolo. One thing I wanted to say. If you cross your legs very often when working (I do) then you will have to forget the desk with the keyboard drawer. I had one and I hit my knees like 999 times until I got tired of it and sold it. From my experience, best desk is the one you have custom bult. Don't forget visiting local wood shops ... Also keep in mind those desks that have racks in front of you, there won't be enough space to put any desktop synth module on the table ie Waldorf XT.
Hi, Don! Thank you for the recommendations. Personally I don't cross my legs so I don't think that per se would be a huge problem... but mostly it's because I used to be in D.I.Y. a lot when I was younger in my 30s, I did built a custom desk for myself, which I used for a few years , you can see the one I built in this video from 2010 here: ruclips.net/video/8YlFYAyyRQU/видео.html but now at 55 going for 56, I think at this time juncture I'd rather pay someone and get an already built-one for now. Yup, as of the end of this year, I've officially been into synths / music / recordings for exactly 40 years (I bought my very first electronic keyboard in 1984, a Farfisa Matador LR), so my G.A.S. sinusoidal wave is entering its descending phase! :^)
In fact, IIRC you commented on that video when I posted it 14 years ago... because IIRC you were interested in that Tascam mixer that I had on the custom desk... do you recall? Let me see if I can find that convo....
I tried the search but nothing comes up! I don't remember if it was posted during our times at Harmony Central, or at Gearslutz.... I guess that thread is lost in the vast ocean of time past ...
I actually designed exactly that and "forced" our contractor to build it 😂 And he repeatedly returned to me saying it's impossible to which I responded with ideas and told him to try harder. Being the German engineer that I am, always aiming for 100%. 99% isn't enough, by far. He was finally able to finish it and I am happy with the result. It houses a nearly flush mounted LMK4+, nearly because the desk also has a cover/lid for the LMK, so that you don't have to rest your arms on it when working with mouse and keyboard. I always disliked the solutions where the LMK is too low underneath the desk, so it always touches your legs. The LMK4+ has a great keyboard actually, it's the same as Nord uses in the Stage 3. Anyway, it is possible. I should take a photo and post it somewhere though. I always think other people might like having this as well. Kind regards!
All of these desks are great desks. Some, yes, a little over priced. I still use a Mackie 32x8. I just bought a used Argosy desk/console for the Mackie which included a 32x8 mixer with it for $300 USD altogether. So now I own 2 32x8 mixers. I think I got a sweet deal for the desk and mixer.
I was just looking for a desk, so weird that this popped up in my feed when it did. Decided that I'd build my own desk as I'm not huge a fan of a lot of what is available, should be able to get it done for $400-$500 - I wanted to make a sit/stand desk but from what I've seen they're just so wobbly at max height, and I'm not willing to gamble a bunch of expensive gear on that, I can just take a break and stand up for a while.
Hi Mr. Paolo How are you? I want to wish you and your family a MERRY CHRISTMAS with all my best wishes. I wish you health and joy on this day with my best blessings. I wish everyone a nice day. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
I have the simple desk like Espen Kraft. Meanwhile it costs almost 350 euros, but you get it at IKEA named FREDDE. It is quiet heavy and stable for me.
I just bought one, $269 on Amazon. Brand is ErGear something, it's a 63"x28" desk. I could not find what I wanted from the main manufacturers unless I spend $4,000, and at that point I decided that for now, I'll just get a simple, inexpensive desk, and upgrade later.
Yes. I have sold circa 80% of my studio in the past few months. I will still keep some of the classic gear, but after 40 years into synths... it's time to start slowing down in that department :^)
@ Same here. It has been slow going, the local used market for synths and associated gear seems to be slowing down. Initially I put things in storage but I’ve just decided to sell most of it on rather than keep collecting. Cheers to the future of synthmania!
@@Cubik303 Yes, I'm observing the same thing on Reverb/eBay. Times are tough right now, and I think most people don't want to direct money to non-needed, discretionary spending such as used / vintage synths / gear...Thanks and happy holidays!
No console anymore... I will probably get a couple of analog racks (or perhaps 500 series) for the occasional mixing/master buss if I'm trying to sound more "vintage", but in general I'll use the built-in software mixer in a DAW. For Interface, currently I have an Audient iD44 mkII desktop + ASP800 rack expander which gives 12 channels (expandable to 20 if I'll need more).
@@SynthManiaDotCom ok, I'm going this way too. I use an SSL Six small mixer, for analog sends/effects and drums. Otherwise Apogee Symphony Desktop plus an Apogee AD8000 (10ch) and I think I'll go full Symphony at some point. Having recall, routing, is more important to me than sounding vintage which I can achieve by using vintage equipment.

I allways wanted one with an inbuilt doepfer keyboard, but they are sooo expensive, but very cool! 🙌
It really is!

Great timing, I just built the Glorious Compact desk! Really great purchase.
Fantastic! Enjoy the desk
Nice! My studio desk was a computer desk I had modified with speaker monitor and rack shelf's!
DIY is always a good option!

Just got Acme Megara from Amazon. $519. Well constructed. Plenty of rack space. Raised it with 4” casters. I love mine.
Just checked it out, very cool, P.! I'll add it to the list

@grandtetone I've had a couple of "Broder" shelves for many years. They are so solid, unfortunately they don't make them anymore...
@@SynthManiaDotCom I feel the same about the "Rast" 19" Rack nightstand hack. The 4 panel nightstand is no longer offered.
Hi, you can take a look at Blackpanthersystem maybe ❤

Is this part of a general studio downsizing? I’ve been going through that exercise this year.
Yes. I have sold circa 80% of my studio in the past few months. I will still keep some of the classic gear, but after 40 years into synths... it's time to start slowing down in that department :^)
