    What an excellent video that shows how the right placement and combination of plants and trees can really make a huge difference in the final product. It also shows how you were willing to work with a lot of what they had, even though after
    watching all of your other videos, many of the plants are not what you would normally choose, your professional eye worked
    it all out, and made a huge difference in the before & after ! Your explanation of why you put this with that, etc. is a wonderful resource for we DIY landscapers. Sometimes, we can look at something and know, "it's not quite right", but aren't really sure what needs to be done to fix it. Your narrative goes a long way in understanding some of the issues that need fixing. Great sales tool for your company ! Always look forward to your posts, always a feast for our eyes ! ! ! Thanks for another great
    teaching tool !!!

    Execellent video. We're zone 10. Due to storms (not even hurricanes)
    we're removing all trees that could crush house. Also ants/bugs crawl onto roof from fronds when they
    palms are too close to building 😢.
    The gutters attached to walls would look better painted wall color. Currently the home is highlighted by gutters on walls. Mulch should never be next to buildings; think termites. Mulch comes from who knows where with who know what creepy crawlees!😂.

    I might be different from your normal viewer but I watch for your general landscaping tips, not necessarily the plants. I'm in 9b and the more tropical plants don't always work in my area. So I love the explanations of why you plant things where you do and when you explain your overall vision so I can use that information with more appropriate plants for my area. I wonder how often those Eugenia topiaries get trimmed to stay neat looking. They are super cool!

I just had a bunch of palms planted and I know the soil is garbage. They are doing ok and I plan to fertilize them but when considering future plantings I'd like to amend the soil before they go in. The designers I’ve spoken with are only interested in ripping out everything and replacing with their plants - even if they’re suggesting the same ones. I’d love to get your guidance on a corner I’m working on. I ordered a triple foxtail palm but it think they gave me a triple fishtail instead. Close, but I’m still disappointed.

    I so agree. I plant too much, too close together. While they look great way young, they’ll probably look like a hot mess as they grow together within the next few years. Need to consider less how they’ll look together within in the next year or two versus when my plants and trees begin to grown and mature within the next five to ten years.

I am looking to keep a low maintenance look and not having to pull weeds every week. Can you or do you have a video where we can see an after of a front yard space that’s more established but low in height like 3ft max height? Thank you

      Well, hello ghost Rider absolutely so you wanna stick with things that can handle that bounce back heat so a lot of what you saw in that first bed will do well in a stone Landscape. agaves, Foxtail ferns, succulents, dwarf, Clusia,Orange Bird Paradise, Pygmy date palms, European Fan Palms,dwarf Bougainvillea All of those type of plantings can handle the furnace conditions lol of rock in the summer. Good luck, Gardner.

    What do you do to amend the soil?

    • @TrueGardener
      @TrueGardener  4 месяца назад +6

      So we have a professional blend for our projects. However a really good mixture is half black cow quarter Peat Moss quarter pine mulch. If you need a good deal of soil then you can add some top soil to the mix. The pine mulch really helps to aerate the soil and keep it light and fluffy as it breaks down. I’m thinking of doing an upcoming video on soil conditioning do you think that would help ?

      Hello Heidi, well you probably have brown pea gravel? I believe that was commonly used for homes in that era. I know they tend to roll a bit and not as easy to walk on. That’s why i commonly used Tahitian Gray granite the half inch variety for any kind of walking path, but I’m not sure how that would work With your homestyle. I’m sorry to say I’m probably not going to be helpful with that, but have you checked into some of the tan granite? They make a nice walking path. Best of luck to you on that wish I was more help.

    Can you treat the mango croton as you would cordylines where you can snip iff the taller ones and replant?

    • @TrueGardener
      @TrueGardener  4 месяца назад +1

      Oh Becky how I wish that was doable. No unfortunately they just naturally become bald at the base and keep that beautiful color at the top. That’s a common thing for the taller variety Croton that are going to reach that 5 to 7 foot. That’s why I normally plant them with a skirt below that’s easily maintained at the 2-3ft range.

    • @beckyboopz1

      @@TrueGardener so if you top it, it doesn’t bush out either?

    • @TrueGardener
      @TrueGardener  4 месяца назад

      Oh yes, you can top it. That way you can maintain the size you want, and it will get bushier, but it will always lose its lower leaves at the bottom at least in my experience with them that seems to be what happens.

    Those crotons wouldn't last 2 weeks down here in South Texas unless they are in shaded areas. How they manage to take heat down there and live is beyond my understanding. I'm along the gulf of Mexico coast in south Texas. It's humid, hot, and always wet. The sun down here eats them up still. Foxtails are also really risky down here. The safest bet would be Royal, Queen, Bottles, and King palms. We are actually in the same zone Miami is but the sun hits different. Not sure why. I've got elephant ears, red banana trees, dwarf banana plants, giant pathos attached to my palm trunks and home walls, travelers' palms, birds of paradise, etc. A really tropical approach but Crotons, cordylines, etc...get torn up. I see this home has crotons exposed. Must not be a problem.

    • @TrueGardener
      @TrueGardener  4 месяца назад

      That is interesting, the sun must be far more aggressive over your way even Miami Florida is so Crotons happy. Well as long as the shade croton variety has some protection they do well in our heat, the sun lovers like the Mammy’s love sun bathing in the heat of the day.
