A boat sale is not like a selling a car or even a house. There is always emotion involved, as that boat has been your friend, you are somehow attached to it unlike anything else. I sold a boat and was in contact and met up with the buyer several times, over a period of 10 years!! So your feelings are quite natural. Good luck with your future plans. John
Dear Nestor, 1981@19 I joined the US Navy to become a refrigeration, boiler, & plumbing mechanic on bases. @23 I learned how to sail a 14ft lazer in Puerto Rico & learned windsurfing. I wish I had GoPro video recording teck back then. It takes curage to sail alone and can do smarts to over come a difficult situation or problem. I follow Sailing Zatara. You did a swell job editing this video.
Subscribed. RUclips suggested this video and I'm hooked. I like your plan to sail around UK. My grands were from Scotland and I think it'd be a fun way to see everything. Your first boat will always be with you in memories and the lessons she taught you. Looking forward to your adventures.
Thanks! Yes I’m really excited for it, the North of Scotland is somewhere I’ve been wanting to go for years. In summer I think I’ve got myself a position as crew on a trip to the Faroe Islands, so that would also be amazing
Great to see you on RUclips again Nestor. It's Ok to feel sad, that boat contained a lot of happy memories for you. Look forward to your future videos. Keep well and safe. James.
Hi Nestor, Thanks for posting this. I had a Hurley 22 for a couple of years when I was in my teens. It was in a similar state to yours when I got her. Watching this video brought back fond memories. I'm in my 50s now and what that boat taught me has stayed with me throughout my life. Well done for keeping her going, it sounds like she is moving on to a decent new home.
You’re welcome, thanks for commenting! Yes I have learned so many things from this boat, not just sailing, and yes I think she has gone to the right person.
Glad to hear your aim is to head north in your next boat. I am in Scotland, and hope to get to Norway next season. Both amazing sailing destinations. One thing you may consider, buy in Norway. Older sailboats are great value. For £10k a great 25’ ish. For £5k one needed tidying up.
I'm Canadian and came over to Lymington off my boat in the South Pacific to take my RYA Offshore. Miserable cold waters but fond memories. Look forward to see more of the area.
It will not be long before you get another one it has been great to watch you and just think of the happiness and experience the boat has given you and other adventures now on the horizon to enjoy and yet I suspect boats and sailing related things will not be far from you😊👍 .
So pleased to see you posting again Nestor. people are interested in what you're up to so keep em coming! The footage of your Hurley reminds me so much of mine. The hardest thing we have to do in life is to love without attachment.
I hope one day your reunited with your friend! And if it’s not to be well the memories will always be! “Fair winds and following Seas”. looking forward to your next adventure Nestor. 👋
Hi from a Brit living in Arizona who as a young boy lived in Warsash on the Hamble and sailed and raced a Mirror and Laser at WSC. Good luck with your future adventures.
Well done! Always tough selling the first boat. I had an 18ft Hurley silhouette and that was such a fun time. The move upto my vivacity 21 that I’m now selling was quite the step up in liveability and allowed me to go on much bigger adventures around the uk. Looking forward to seeing what’s next for you and hopefully I see you out on the water sometime soon!
Thank Alex! You are a large part of the reason I got the boat and made videos about it! I think I have watched your misumi series three times lol. Yes, looking forward to a slightly larger boat, and doing some much bigger adventures. Planning a sail around the uk in my gap year. I will look out for your new trimaran! Will you be doing the round the island?
@@nestorandhisboat glad to hear!!! That sounds like a great plan to me. Hopefully you find a good solid boat to do it in. I’d do it in Meraki if I had the time to as she’s not the fastest. I will be doing the race this year I think. Will you?
Fantastic video! Fun and interesting content, and nicely edited. Happy to subscribe and looking forward to following your continuing adventures. Got a chuckle from your recognizing that "old" is relative. Obviously, 60 is young for a boat and your subscribers. We are all just kids at heart.
I really enjoyed the first few uploads on your channel - Having bought my first sailing boat at 17 - an old Moody - (I so wish social media was around then .... and also it was the only boat I have ever made money on) I have had a life-long sailing love and now - at nearly the same age as your boat, I am looking at going back to sailing! Selling your first boat is difficult, but hey, you have a lifetime of adventures ahead, the confidence and comfort with undertaking adventure will shape your next adventures... don't worry, call us old, and don't be careful what you say! It is more fun to say it all!!!!
That sounds awesome! I reckon it was more fun before social media, but it is true that it helps the financial side of boating! You should definitely go back, but I may be slightly bias! Thanks! Glad you enjoyed my videos. And can I say you have a great channel name
@@nestorandhisboat Thanks Nestor, you have an amazing sailing future and a lifetime of adventure awaits. I am sure there will be some great summer adventures this year - absolutely love all of channels you pop up on but this one is completely authentic and great! incidentally, on the back of this I am considering an H22 for a bit of fun!!! so yes, you have definitely influenced me!!! (An H18 may look a little too close to that meme of a fatman in a boat)
This appeared in my recommended, I was thoroughly impressed with your attitude and drive Nestor. I have subscribed and look forward to your future journeys…….good luck from Australia 🇦🇺
I am turning a Chinese 168F diesel int an alternator generator unit, but likely adding a power takeoff for a propeller. Boats are electric power hungry in stormy weather and when they use an autopilot, which can be homemade. A 12 volt chest freezer is fun and inexpensive. An American style CB radio with a 9 foot wire antenna is good for your boat.
Hey Nestor, of course its sad, but a big first step to a life of boats! So congratulations on taking that first step. Its definitely in your blood now!
Nice video mate, lovely Albin Vega on display ;) I am sure your next boat will be more suitable for your plans. It’s always easy to convince ourselves that the first boat has to be the one to take us around the world or on the first big trip. I found with my first boat, an Achilles 24, that it’s easy to quickly outgrow a small boat even if they don’t outgrow us. She was a brilliant sailing boat but the reality of sitting room only and no storage quickly hit home.
Glad you found it! I thought so too lol Thanks for this, I think you are right, but sailing around the Uk in that does seem more appealing but something a little bigger is definitely the way I will go. Well put! The limited cockpit space and lack of storage were certainly two of the push factors. An Achilles 24 is the type of thing I think I will be looking for in a years time.
so sad man - but its only a milestone on your long and happy sailing journey. I was glad to see at the end that u have a new and bigger boat. Leeeeeeeesssh Gooooooooo dood! Hope u keeping posting new videos. :)) Cheers Greg
Thank you greg! This is definitely just the beginning and I already have some amazing things planned! Yes I am aiming to post more frequently, have some good videos planned with this boat. Is this the same greg that supported me on buymeacoffee?
would,ve been hard to let her go, lots of regrets but expensive sitting in water not getting used ,from day one you should,ve got a trailer for it and easly found friend with room to park her up and tow to public slipway or boat yard ,but i doubt you,ve seen the last her, one day she returns for sure
Nestor, It’s always hard to part with your boat. Yesterday I sold my West Wight Potter 15, It was sad to see her go. Best wishes with your school and whatever life brings you. Rob
It’s ok to be sentimental about selling a sailing vessel you love and have poured heart and soul into. I’m at the other end of the spectrum, having to sell my likely last boat Zanetia, a Hinckley Sou’wester 59 and formerly a member of your Royal Yacht Squadron. The sadness is the same at both ends of the spectrum.
hiya, i commented before but i dont think you saw it... im 16 and managed to buy a jeanneau sun 2000 in need of some tlc 2 years ago. now im similar to you, hoping to do some bigger trips solo, but my insurance says i have to have a "competent adult" when im sailing - what insurance did you use?
Sorry I don’t think I did see it! Nice job that’s awesome. We did the insurance under my dads name, and it was only third party. I didn’t sail single handed much so this wasn’t a problem, sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Very true, I think especially when it’s an older boat which has a lot of character. Thanks four your comment John!
Big hugs - yeah a person gets attached to things they invest energy in - never be ashamed to feel attachment, that’s what shows a persons character.
