Thinking of it as a D chord with the added little finger simplified everything in my mind. Thank you Tomas.
You're very welcome A Return To Faith
Yer it’s that simple to understand yet that difficult to perform
This is the hardest chord I've ever learned in over 20 years of playing. Thank you for helping me get it down!
Glad I could help, Ur gulp.
20 years and you didnt learn e flat? Bar chords my guy
I have to tell you, I've played guitar for over 10 years, I'm not amazing, but this chord always fucking haunts me
Tune your guitar half a step down, play an emajor shape presto. Eb major
i used to hate bar chords. but now after practice, bar chords made my life easy. its actually good to remember shapes :)
Thanks for commenting, m nm. I agree.
I still trying to play bar chords since 2017 but can't😬😬😒 plz guide me how to play bar chords bro plz mail me at rock.ashish435@gmail.com
Ashish Kumar can you play them now
m nm that gives me hope
Beautifully explained! Thank you! I’ve had to resort to playing it barred at position 1 to get to Bb and F in a hurry but your explanation was useful for showing a friend how to shove C up three frets to make Eb. Keep up the good work!
'First knuckle buckle' awesome!
😆
Why does this guy remind me of king candy from wreck it Ralph
Thanks for commenting Grand Master YODA.
Grand Master YODA this was too real
Bruh 😂
Thanks you so much Big T .. U just taught me how to play a chord I have been struggling with for some time.
you’re an actual legend. tomorrow i have a performance as a class band in a music lesson, and i’ve been struggling with this chord! Thank you so much! i’ll give you credit to my teacher :) 💗
You're very welcome Poppy. Knock um dead :)
The e-flat chord has been a burr in my side for decades! Thanks for this helpful video showing some user-friendly options! I've turned the tables on this chord and have it in a half-nelson!
Many times when playing guitar songs that require Eb, I will transpose all chords using a capo on the 1st fret. The Eb is then played as a D chord. Much easier and actually sounds better.
I just tried this method and wow! I can finally play a song I’ve been meaning to master :)
I'd prefer once I become good at Guitar playing, I'd like to play in any key.
I like this guy!
Doesn't show off like other youtubers, and also seems to have fun teaching guitar.
A real man with a real guitar.
Thanks, Ranmali. I appreciate it.
Some teachers get it.
They seem to remember when they first were learning and how to explain getting there. The close up finger placement & the picture helped me nail down two of the three. Merci Tomas!
You're welcome!
Oh my gosh, thank you. I’m almost entirely self taught save for times like this. I used the ultimate guitar app and the built in chords it had were completely wild.
In a song with a chord progression from Bm (bar) to Eb, the bar version of Eb (with the "C" like setting) suddenly made the song easy to play. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome Silmas.
Excellent tutorial! The only part of the shape that gives me a little trouble is the barring of the 6 th fret ,and the 8th fret ,using the ring finger (partial bar)
Working hard the get a clean tone on the 8 th fret…
I’ll get there…👍😊🎸🙏
Wonderful! Teaching my daughter to play Eb and Db, so the barre chord is perfect!
Rock on!
You are the best guitar teacher.thank youuuuuu
Wow, thanks Soniya! 😄
Thank you.... now I can play a eb
Thank you, Tomas. I was trying to play the D string on the 1st fret. So much easier on the 5th. And I never thought to play the barre...
Glad it helped Tom!
omg thank you!!! you explained this so well!
Glad it was helpful Aida! Eb is a tough one.
E flat bought me here but you kept me here... great voice
Thank you Leonie.
This is I was looking for. Thanks a lot :)
Most welcome 😊
I love it, thank you sir!
You are welcome Creene!
Thank you for the help with Eb..
I needed it
You're welcome Rachael.
Thanks Tomas, very practical lesson w lots of good information
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great way to play Eb is a C shape on the 4th fret with the pinky on the 6th. Super-easy on the fingers, does not require strength, has a nice, pleasant voicing and even allows you to do 1-5 alternating bass with the ring finger as it frets now the 5th string, now the 6th. This is actually a fantastic way to do any 5th-string-root chord.
I usually play the E flat with a C shape on the fourth fret… But I use a bar. What you do with the open high E and G strings Locarnese?
@@TomasMichaud The G is part of the chord, so I let it ring. The top string I either mute or play Bb with my little finger.
oh lord I hail you... it worked for me the third method.. you are great... my million thanks
You're welcome Jacqueline!
You're a great teacher! Thanks
I appreciate that Kidus!
Absolutely well displayed, I will follow
Thanks, I appreciate it.
I too like of your teaching about chords & very useful To use. Thank you.
You are welcome Yarik!
I have always played the 3rd fret Eb by barring the G B E string with my index finger and playing the B string 4th fret D string 5th fret. It's easier for me using 3 fingers rather than four. Also, that hand position can slide up to play and F on 5 fret, G chord on 7th fret and so on.
Sounds good to me Johnny.
Thanks Tomas, I’ve been struggling with that cord and I knew there had to be alternative way!
Glad I could help David!
You are a good teacher
That was excellent. Thank you.
thanks! the last one is easy and sound better.
You're very welcome Thilian.
the video starts at 0:44 . you're welcome

Glad you liked it Scott!
Dude thank you so much this helped me a lot
Glad it helped Genya.
Helpful video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful Konradvip.
Thanks for the lesson!
You're welcome.
When I'm learning a new chord, I play a chord progression with that chord so I get used to changing to that chord.
That sounds like a great practice Harmono.
@@TomasMichaud Try Playing "Plush" by STP to learn how to incorporate Eb with other chord progressions (Or any DeLeo song)
Hi thank's for this. I got here because I was looking at the choices of different voices for this E Flat Chord.
I noticed some very nice arpeggio by the guy who plays lead in ELO, around some parts in their song (Mr Blue Sky) when he plays the E Flat Chord.
I was trying to learn the song and wondered how he made the E Flat sound like that and where it was being played on the neck.
I'm more used to acoustics but im involving ELectric in my playing more recently. Would you mind taking a look at on their live videos and further this video another stage by adding those methods? He kind of walks through the chord. You will see what I mean. I think that part helps make the song what it is guitar wise.
Have a great day and thanks
Just what i needed. Thank you sir!
Glad to help Jovi!
great video thanks !
You're welcome Reko.
Thank u it helps
Right on! Thank you!

I taught myself how to play because I'm a shitty student...

Glad I could help Cody.
Thanks man i like your videos. Is there any way to train fingers for that "knuckle" thing ? I mean some kinda exercise or something like that ?
Keep up with good work.
You're welcome Yavuz. I usually have students start off with warm up exercises to train their fingers. Watch this: ruclips.net/video/idKxTn68pRU/видео.html
Great video... you keep it interesting and communicate very well too! Nice and thank you!!!
Thank you Conan the Destroyer. It's good to hear from you.
Thank you Sir! 😊
thank you!!!!! I feel really happy!!!!
I'm glad. This is a difficult chord for many people.
Bar chord are the best! Was trying to learn Jimmy Cliff's Clash cover of Guns of Brixton and I had no idea how the heck to get the eb to work! Thanks bud! Subscribed! :)
You're welcome Gregory. I glad to hear my video helped.
Yeah I love Jimmy Cliff’s many rivers to cross. Great tune.
Thank you!
You bet!
Thanks, very helpful
You're very welcome WhiteFox
You are great, thank you for this
You're very welcome Hillary!
Thank you so much. Honestly.
You're welcome jOEL.
how do you make that chord if you fingers are not double jointed ?
Can you make a video on how to bend the ring finger to make two fingers barre chord?
Yes, that's a good idea James.
We need more daily exercises to master barre chords and changing open chords when playing on the rhythm. Thanks
Yes, that makes sense Therese. Thanks for letting me know. I'm adding this to my "to do" list now.
Agreed!
Thanks... that helps. I'll bump it up the list.
Thanks so much sir 😉😉😉
Most welcome
very help full❣
hey tomas!
thank you for the video. i'm having a bit of a difficulty trying the second way of playing the Eb chord. my question is, how do you make both the low and high E string sound like a G? I think I didn't get the fingering right cause my last string is not sounding like a G. can you explain it to me?
Great Video 👍
Thanks for lesson
My pleasure
How do we practice the first one? My pinky finger can't press the 4th string.its very uncomfortable placing the pinky finger on 4th string.
Like the options Thomas
Thanks Blake.
Ur welcome...how is the best way can I find ur other teaching stuff...like ur style. I haven’t picked up guitar since college...bout 40 yrs ago
That's a Gmb6 chord.
An easy Eb major chord would be X 6 5 4 X X and the shap is kind of lile the basic C major shape but 3 strings are muted.
You could also play it as
X 6 8 X 8 X
The next is also a Gmb6 chord because you're playing the G on the low E. Just remove that G and it's an Eb major chord.
The last is a Bb6sus(9) chord. If you remove the B on the low E it's still not an Eb major chord, it's a because it has C on the high e, remove that and play the A, D, G and B strings and that's a Eb mahor chord.
Thanks for sharing Slavic.
I always wanted to learn fingerpicking I always have found it hard do you have a video on that? I would really appreciate it than you

Sure Aryan. I'll add this to my list.

Welcome Ekagra.
Great video ! ... btw , what model Yamaha is that ? Beautiful acoustic guitar
Thx
I didn't know about partial barres. It hurts but it's easy lol
If I play the C shape barre without the pinky and only the bottom 4 strings...It makes Eb too right??(Its using the same notes as the first shape..)That seems a little bit easier to me.
Hi Abhisheke. Close. C barre chord... take off pinky and 2nd finger, play the middle 4 strings. Same notes as the 1st Eb form. Not easy to strum because you have to avoid the 6th and 1st strings.
Say it ain't so by weezer
Thank u
Welcome
