Back in Tiger's Titleist days, Miura produced and sold limited edition of Titleist 681 irons for Japanese market. Many people believed Titleist allowed Miura to such because Miura did make Tiger's iron under Titleist name. Nike TW irons actually look very very similiar (almost identical to my eyes) to MIura MB5001 irons. Therefore, the rumor continued. The logic being if Tiger liked Miura produced irons to use under Titleist name, why would have stopped Tiger do the samething under Nike name. Also, I remember reading that Miura at least confirmed that they do provide some wedges to Nike. Who were/are Nike players who used/use Miura wedges (or irons)? Who knows...
Tom Stites who designed Nikes club has said when they first made their molds for the original clubs they sent the mold to Miura and I think Endo as well to put in their press to be test forged prior to the machinery being installed to do it in Texas. He claims that several sets were hand picked for Tiger and weighed for precise matched sets but that they were the same as production runs other than Quality Control
This, plus I heard that tiger had holes drilled and tungsten plugs inserted behind the sweet spot to get the feel he liked (in the days when he was hitting the exact sweet spot every time)
Congratulations on reaching 70k! Thx for squeezing a tech Tuesday into your travel schedule. Great having Rick on too. Made it like a MNGS! Congrats again. Keep up the great work
"Among professional golfers, the Miura name is well-known -- indeed, before he made clubs under his own name, Katsuhiro Miura supplied many top pros with the clubs they used to win major championships. Out of deference to those players and their current endorsement relationships, Katsuhiro Miura does not discuss them specifically." www.miuragolf.com/about.asp
And for a little bit more official Nike-Miura ties: In 2005 Miura provided Nike prototypes that were used on tour but never made it to mass production. www.golfwrx.com/391926/top-10-the-best-nike-golf-equipment-ever-made/
Gps can add to ones course management which is huge for improvement in my opinion vs I paid for 10 lessons from a top 100 teacher yet i didn't get much improvement. Golf is very individual and is hard to give a answer that is the same to everyone since we all have different abilities, capabilities and goals. Love the page Pete keep it up
I heard in the beginning Nike re-engineered Tiger's Titleist irons exactly. I took this with a grain of salt and could personally care less what Tiger used/uses, but it sounds very logical. Now if you want to question whether the Nike irons bought off the shelf were the same as the one's Tiger was using....that's a different question.
Miura are a forging house that will take contracts from OEMs to manufacture there clubs for them. The old TM RAC blades were forged at Miura for Taylormade. It's not unusual for them to produce forged irons for OEMs, Tigers irons were/are Nike irons produced at Miura's factory.
I'd like to point out that American Golf do custom fitting for free, we are all trained to do the custom fit properly and professionally. In stores we tend to also always put our best foot forwards by having the best fitter who's in do the fit. We don't pressure any sale, we simply hang onto the specs in file so that when you want the clubs you can come get them straight away. I recently joined the company so can't speak for past years but I know that all the training done now is great and all the current dead weight employees are being ousted. I work at the Trafford store which you both will know well and I reckon half the team if not more will have changed since you were last there. We really do offer a great service and great custom fit, for free.
Like this one and the discussion about what works for you. A friend has a 16 pound hybrid and hits it amazingly well. I have a callaway xr hybrid and struggle with it. I learnt to go for feel first now.
Swing technique trumps reading numbers off on any piece of technology everytime! You can drop a couple strokes just playing alongside a professional for 9 holes!
Pete. I cannot fix my shoulder plane at impact. I stand up and level out my shoulders instead of Turing and compressing. I still hit the ball well but not consistently. How can I stop standing and just turn my body more.
Also people forget that Tiger first played Mizuno irons when he first turned pro. Some say Miura forged his Mizunos which would make more since being Japanese companies at the time
Loved it! Always insightful and thoughtful advice! Keep up the great work!!! Will you consider doing a course while playing a round of golf with a fan?
Tiger's T stamp Titleist irons were Miura stamps. So were the original nike blades that he and David Duval played. It was all Miura up until the Vr Pro stuff.
i think with putting its preference and feel bc if you like the look you might not like the feel of the face so i recommend trying a lot of putters just like you should do with irons hit everything try everything...
You guys should just officially join forces, like Andy and Piers. The two of you are so good together! Just call it "Your golf and Me" or something like that. I'm just saying😊
I think you may want to consider how you pronounce Nike. Rick pronounces it with the E and you without and look how that effects the subscribers. Lol just kidding always love your content!!
I think I'm right in saying that Mr Miura had a hand in the refinement of Tiger's Titleist irons back in the day, so perhaps this is where the rumours have started?
I don't know if I'm "positive" Tiger was playing a different manufacturer with a Nike stamp on it, but I am certain if they were truly Nike clubs, they weren't the ones you could buy off the rack. However, I'm sure that's the case with almost every pro.
Tiger played junior golf with Titleist blades I thought?!?! I’m almost certain he did then he signed with Nike and the “rumor” was that he was still using titleist blades with Nike logo stamped on them.
Hai Pete! Darren Clark is soon gonna pick his three picks for the Ryder Cup! I want to hear your opinions on which three players you want in the TeamEurope! Persionaly i'm pretty pissed off because the only names i hear is the likes of Kaymer, Westwood, Beef, McDowell etc. But one guy i would love to see in the team is Alex Noren! I mean he's the 11th highest ranked player in europe. He won the Scottish Open and did finish 2nd in the Paul Lawrie MATCH PLAY tournament!
I hear you. But with 5 first timers already confirmed it would be good to have some experienced campaigners, especially playing away... That having said, I'd love to see Russel Knox get picked :-) He's won 2 times (1 WGC) this season and plays well under pressure. Noren is a fine golfer but unfortunately he hasn't played great on the big stage yet: Majors and WGCs :-( But I like him a lot.
Whether this rumor is true or not, it doesn't matter. It would be too difficult to tell as classic blades all look the same. In the early days of Tiger's career he basically modeled Nike apparel (which is Nike's strongest market). He clearly used their golf ball and I tend to believe he used their clubs as well when they started making the equipment except for the Scotty obviously...
Makes sense but not applicable because the VR Pro was the latest classic blade looking iron that Nike made. The Vapor pro irons are "blades" but do not look like the classic blade which Rory plays. Vapor pro irons look more like a modern blade (whatever that means).
nike is just a brand. nothing they make is made by them. its all contracted outsourced work. its the same as their shoes/clothes. they think actually producing things is a thing of the past, as do many companies. nothing wrong with that i guess but its just something to think about when you see the quality of their golf clubs...
i didn't say that, and i dont think i implied that either. i even said that many companies do the same thing. i was just answering the question in the title, guy. i would say all the bigger brands do this, hopefully
I have been buying clubs for more than 25 years, and the absolute worst, lowest quality club I have ever owned was a Nike driver. Embarrassingly poor quality. I have purchased Nike apparel, and shoes since then, but not a single club.
+Tyler Tyson it was SQ...there was a square one and a round one, and I had the round one. And if you have some that you like, that is great. But they're not shutting down their equipment manufacturing because they had great products. I felt like I got burned with my purchase...a terrible sound, cheap shaft, and paper thin grip. Golfers have memories like elephants, and will never forget when paying above average prices for below average equipment.
I gurantee you could not make me a better golfer with $1000.00. in lessons. I don't have time to practice or play anymore than I do. I've peaked this year in scoring. In order to lower my score, I need more time. Don't have it.
7:10 for the question in the title. you're welcome
thanx
Thanks
Thanks. This is increasingly a crap "golf" channel. Have deleted it from my watch list.
hey. If you do not like it ... stop watching. your comment is not relevant to lovers of the game of Golf.
real mvp

Tiger's equipment is a bigger conspiracy than the Moon Landing and the shape of the earth.
haha believe
Tiger uses Benross, he's always had an eye for a bargain
Hahah
Tiger really plays northwestern 1971 blades with a nike stamp.
I'm just sitting here wondering how Pete doesn't have more than 100,000 subs.
Good news from the future!
Peter... i love how you are so humble... always stay humble and real.. you are a true inspiration!
Thank you very much
Don't give him too much praise. He might get TOO humble...
lol... na... credit due to inspire others!
Get Back To Golf I was just being annoying... ;)
it's all good... it was funny

Hi guys, I remember a couple of years ago seeing a WITB after a McIlroy tour win and they said categorically that his irons were Miura forgings. Mike
Congratulations on reaching 70k! Thx for squeezing a tech Tuesday into your travel schedule. Great having Rick on too. Made it like a MNGS! Congrats again. Keep up the great work
If you look on the Miura website it kind of hints Tiger was using their clubs
Of course they would...

They may as well have been talking about Jay Don Blake.
@@Somefatdude because they were forging his irons

On the topic of putters and putting: could you go over different grips? Advantages and disadvantages.
Video idea guys, play 18 holes one of you using Dunlop clubs one of you using donnay clubs haha. I'd watch that.
Swing technique trumps reading numbers off on any piece of technology everytime! You can drop a couple strokes just playing alongside a professional for 9 holes!
What do you think about Vice balls? Do they keep up with the big guys like the Pro V1 or Pro V1x? cheers
They're fantastic. Pro Plus is long and the Pro is spinny...just like the ProV1x and ProV1.
Ricks back at it again with that shirt

stop fooling around and putting that steering wheel back where it goes
hey what type of camera do you use? Videos are EXCELLENT!!!
Is it me or was the ending just a tad bit scary😂😂
Miura has stated that they have made clubs for Nike but they don’t know who they went to.
Tiger's T stamp Titleist irons were Miura stamps. So were the original nike blades that he and David Duval played. It was all Miura up until the Vr Pro stuff.
this is true
By the time the VR Pro line came out, nike was pretty much making carbon copies of the proto miura clubs anyway. Very little to no difference at all.
I did a testing with Miura in Japan last week and the guy told me they made Tigers blades
he would say that
Tiger played Mizzy blanks. He loved his MP14'S and couldn't get on with anything else. What comes after Rick Tuesday, Sheils Friday?
lessons are the way to go.
Great way to fill in the road trip home, congrats on reaching 70K subs.
i think with putting its preference and feel bc if you like the look you might not like the feel of the face so i recommend trying a lot of putters just like you should do with irons hit everything try everything...
Thanks for this Q and A ... I suppose some people were bored by it, but I like it. Thanks.
Andrew Morris Golf. Charge for fitting session but refund if clubs are then purchased from them. Excellent service from great team
Tech: does club speed alone can compress a ball or do you need share pressure from the right side of the body?
You guys should just officially join forces, like Andy and Piers. The two of you are so good together! Just call it "Your golf and Me" or something like that. I'm just saying😊
love the ending! focus!
Hi pete, played with Len the other day......wants his ball back !

Wow! You guys have changed from the Web 1.0 days!
Good to hear nike pronounced properly
My ball flight is like ricks hair line. Fading
Tiger played junior golf with Titleist blades I thought?!?! I’m almost certain he did then he signed with Nike and the “rumor” was that he was still using titleist blades with Nike logo stamped on them.
Rick is wearing his favorite shirt per usual :)
But one guy i would love to see in the team is Alex Noren! agreed!
He and Stenson are good friends aswell so they could get some chemistry!
+Alex Berglund yeah
If i was gonna pick three players i would like Kaymer (is a must needed), Knox & Noren. Even tough i wouldn't mind a Beef to bring the entertainment.
Tour X is an amazing facility, would recommend a fitting there to anyone.
It was obvious, driving through my home town Leigh, easy to spot ;) haha
Especially as he drove past my street. Eagle eye...
Down stairs toilets?? Walk in wardrobes?? Miles away from my house haha😂😂😂😂
I THINK PETE JUST LOOKED INTO MY SOUL WITH THOSES ICE BLUE EYES...
Whether this rumor is true or not, it doesn't matter. It would be too difficult to tell as classic blades all look the same. of course you would
Do u like Nike
Nike blows.
+Thomas then play what you like. I don't care.
So do you guys live near each other and work together? Were you guys already friends before work or how did you and rick become friends?
that ending made my day
Try and get a word in Pete!
haha beat me to it
Find one in Rick
Rick thinks he's the best golf coach since butch harmon
Shhh
+Steve T did I take the mick out of your hero, your role model, your inspiration, Bet your have a poster of him on your bedroom wall
ha ha as if
Anyone who is any good has to think that he or she is the best . . . they shouldn't necessarily boast, but . . .
I love his videos. I don't really consider him a coach, but I don' tlive in England. I like what he puts out there so that is why I watch.
So close to 70K
he walks round with his tape on his hand 24/7 I swear
Haha that ending lol, here have a like for that.
took me a good 40 seconds to realize that Pete wasn't driving. (I'm in the US).
This friday
Where you driving through Leigh??
9 to go for 70k!
It doesn't matter what equipment or gadgets you have , if you can't swing it up and down properly , then......
Wouldn't it be nice if Rory or Tiger would use Hogan equipment to raise the profile of Hogan clubs.
Good show guys 😁💯👌⛳
if rory used other irons stamped nike then surely they would stamp with a newer model than he was using (vr i believe)
Makes sense but not applicable because the VR Pro was the latest classic blade looking iron that Nike made. The Vapor pro irons are "blades" but do not look like the classic blade which Rory plays. Vapor pro irons look more like a modern blade (whatever that means).
I'm from st Ives golf club it's a great course you guys should come down
what type of car is that?
Watching this in 2022 for the first time. Wow check out RS without the beard 😳
miura made clubs for titliest japan. tiger used those irons
I heard Tiger was using Rams irons
Mad eyes Pete😳
Just throwing this out there, its a long E. Nikey, not nyk.
It's North American vs. European pronunciation. Just like Adidas.
Donald Rossi do you ride a bikey too?
Actually the CEO of Nike confirmed is pronouced Nikey
Does Rick have any other t shirt?
Tiger was going to use Spalding irons
k1 speed. just... yes?!
you're all wrong tiger has just been to my house and bought my old set of Wilson irons. Nuff said.
That’s simply not true…..he borrowed my old MP’s and I’ve been chasing him down for years trying to get them back! Lol
Let's be honest if Tiger wants any iron Nike will happily oblige as long as it has a tick on it somewhere
His Scotty Cameron putter won 14 majors and didn't have a swoosh anywhere.
fair point,my overall comment (well disguised in waffle) was that tiger gets what tiger wants irrelevant of the manufacturer
Agreed
Conspiracy Theory: Peter Finch Style :-0
focus! theres your ending pete lol
Rick back then Bru 😂
12:56 should have been the thumbnail
Why's Rick's hair trying to escape from his head?

what makes you think any other club company is any different? most companies have all of there product our sourced.
i didn't say that, and i dont think i implied that either. i even said that many companies do the same thing. i was just answering the question in the title, guy. i would say all the bigger brands do this, hopefully
I've heard this rumour for a long time
its not a rumor. he used muiras until 2010 when the vr line came out.
So if Tiger starts using Miura irons now...will it confirm the myth?!?
I have been buying clubs for more than 25 years, and the absolute worst, lowest quality club I have ever owned was a Nike driver. Embarrassingly poor quality. I have purchased Nike apparel, and shoes since then, but not a single club.
What club because because there knew ones are pretty good...
+golfbuddy1969 agreed the sq and down were mostly a ripoff... The covert and up is much improved and is just as good as talyormade or ping
+golfbuddy1969 I had that club and I loved it. It's now the one I use to practice swing with at home.
+y0lefted I understand. It was just my personal experience. I knew that they improved over the years, but I just couldn't give them another chance.
Tiger never or anyone for that matter used Nik clubs but yes they used Nike clubs.
Rick Shiels 21 years old...
how many hours of lessons would we get from you for £300 then ??
Who's driving this car?
What's going on with Rick's hair?
Too funny, at the end.
Tiger never used Nike clubs He always used Miura clubs
Not true according to Mike Taylor who hand ground all of Tiger's Nike clubs.
I gurantee you could not make me a better golfer with $1000.00. in lessons. I don't have time to practice or play anymore than I do. I've peaked this year in scoring. In order to lower my score, I need more time. Don't have it.
he didn't Nike paid Mazuno and Titleist fat money to put Nike logo on there stuff
Miura all day long...
