    My wife just aksed, "Is that the guy that is basically the Mr. Rogers of RUclips?" in reference to you. I've been a follower of yours for quite a while now and apparently that's how she identifies you!
    Much love, Lon. Keep it up!

    One inaccuracy in Lon’s review... the USB 3.1 Gen 2 port did support connection of my LG UltraFine 4K monitor

      Wow was getting ready to buy the LG UltraFine 4K monitor this week. Any idea idea what 4K monitor is supported with the CalDigitTS-3 connected with the new Mac mini m1?

    Was there a reason you didn’t have the laptop connected to the port labeled “computer”? But rather the second thunderbolt port?

    Great review but I’m having an issue with my Caldigit when I connect or disconnect. All the devices I have connected into my Caldigit will turn off and on again when I plug or unplug the Caldigit from my 2018 MBP. Any idea why it does that?

    I have this Dock and it's about to go back. My 2018 MacBook was acting up, the WiFi would slow to a crawl and eventually I would loose connection. I am forced to turn WiFi On and Off, it'll connect up but it'll be at a Snails Pace speed. Another problem is when my Macbook Pro goes to sleep, the laptop starts to cook and the fans run like crazy! Not happy with all these issues given the price tag on this Dock!

      What are the full specs on your MBP? Wondering if I should avoid getting this for my MBP 2018 now.

    I have the TF2 and love it. I'm using it with my old MacBook Pro e2011 without problems. Have you tested the TF3 Plus with the Apple TB2-to-TB3/USBTC adapter? I'd be curious how it performs on older Macs and PCs with TB1/2.

    I have an upgraded Macbook Pro 2012 with 16gb of Ram & an SSD with an External GPU. Could I use this product to connect my older mac to both the Egpu and an external monitor? I already have a thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3 thingo along with a thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 3 cable.

    I HAVE THE OLD BELKIN DOCK WHICH I USE WITH USB3 TO THUNDERBOLT WHICH WORKS GREAT BUT THE SPEEDS ARE NOT THE SAME AS THE ABOVE THINKING OF BUYING IT TO USE IT WITH MY 4K AND 5K IMAC BUT I GOT THE CALDIGIT TWO HDMI PORTS USB3.1 AND USB 2 AND ETHERNET WHICH I USE WITH MACBOOK PRO 2018.

    Just purchased this dock ... Using with a MacBook Pro M1.. having lots of problems using direct connect thunderbolt to Qnap NAS and using wired internet through loan port.. no connectivity, then the unit seems to have brought my LAN down in my house which it appears another user on RUclips experienced. Another issue, SuperDrive connected to USB doesn’t work. Perhaps a faulty unit but pretty poor experience

  • @Le_Lys_Eclectique

    You got the laptop connected to the wrong port. There is clear marking "Computer" above the second thunderbolt port. I wonder if that skews the results

    • @siegfriedmeyke6631
      @siegfriedmeyke6631 4 года назад +1

      The only difference between those ports is that the one labeled as computer drives power to the connected device. Caldigid even advises you nit to use it if you don't want to charge the laptop or if it doesn't allow for charging over its thunderbolt port. So the only thing it would skewer is charging results.

    Hi, I used to connect my external hard drive to TV directly via USB to watch my photos and videos, now my files got big and TV processors can’t handle, any recommendation to use to connect to TV via USB or HDMI?.

    The web page for it claims that it supports Linux. You didn't by chance manage to test this, did you? This would be awesome for my dev environment in the office! Finally get rid of that daft Kensington dock with the crap displaylink drivers.

    Here's a question....just how different IS a thunderbolt 3 cable from a usbC cable? I'm sure I could google it...but would Ya' be willing to do a vid on Yer thoughts? Like length...functionality...cost....effectiveness tests...yada, yada, yada? I'd reeeaaallly like to see that. Great vid as always. :-)

    My Caldigit TS3 Plus only is recognized by my Dell XPS 15 7590 when the dock is plugged into the laptop when shut down, and then powered up. If my laptop is on and I plug the dock in, nothing happens. Any ideas? All drivers up to date...

    Hey Lon, love this Dock, and I've been looking for something similar. I have TB2 devices, is it possible to run a thunderbolt 3 device at TB 2 speeds, or do they have a model for thunderbolt 2? Thanks

    • @LonSeidman
      @LonSeidman  6 лет назад +2

      They do make (or did make) a bunch of TB2 docks in the past although they won't have the USB-C ports or power delivery. I think you /might/ be able to use this one with an adapter I'll check on that.

    • @macinman

      Thanks Lon, the power support isn't an issue here. This would be for a late 2015 5K 27" iMac so it's always plugged in on a UPS, and any drives I use, are either 2.5" bus powered, or 3.5" with an external power supply. I do have a 4 port USB 3 hub, which is also externally powered. This would be mainly to add more ports in a more comfortable location then my existing hub, Plus, I would assume that the USB C devices would run at USB 3.0 speeds, unless I would get 3.1 speeds over TB2 which is 20 Mb/sec correct? Anyway let me know what you find out, thanks.

    Has anyone ever used one of these with a fiber optic Thunderbolt 3 cable? I'm thinking about running my computer in another room and running a cable to my office, using this for peripherals and my monitor.

    Does this dock support DisplayPort 1.2? Would i be able to daisy chain a second monitor off the first using DisplayPort. I do this with the HP dock we have and sometimes run into issues where the displays drop out so i have been researching alternatives.

      Is it an Active DisplayPort to HDMI? There is a passive AND an active. I’ve read most Thunderbolt docks require the active adapter.

    Sorry but did he say 300!!?? So we go from cheap laptop reviews to can you please pass the Grey Poupon oh and the thunderbolt 3 dock as well.... thank you jeeves :-) I say this is jest but in all honesty I have a laptop (Aero 15) that has thunderbolt 3 but it also has a HDMI 2.0 port, mini dp, card reader, and blah blah blah .. point being it has a lot of this stuff so really other than macs I just don't really see much of an audience. Since it appears to be sold out on Amazon I guess I may be wrong.

      Thunderbolt docks are a little pricier at the moment although I think some changes to the licensing model will make them lower cost soon. Some folks like the single cable convenience but it's up to each individual to decide whether or not it's worth the cost to get it :)
