Heard brother that's so true, ZZ Top does whatever they want, because they want to, they're unique in every way, in the way they dress and how they through their career have stuck to what they believe is good music and no let anybody tell them what to do, they're unique and 100 % original, and that's why we love 'em!! Go ZZ Top, never stop rockin'!!
That Gillette story is so cool, shows that they aren't sell-outs, any other act would have done it, but staying consistent has payed of, they're still here today thank god, and their beards are so cool!!
Thank you so much for all that information. Above and beyond the call of duty :) I'm not a gigantic BFG/ ZZ Top fan but I love a few of their songs "Cheap Sunglasses" is frickin amazing, and I love me a good rock n roll biography.. so when I have the time/ spare cash I will invest in that book. So he most definitely partook! ha... brilliant. have you heard of a band called The Unband? They do a really fun version of Sharp Dressed Man :) Have a good day sir! Seth (in the UK)
Billy is the best!! His Tone is as big as the stories he keeps tellin'. Absolutely great!!! And see how he manages to stay calm and friendly with such an idiot for an interviewer.
You're welcome of course. Will search out The Unband... sounds cool! The Blayney book can be had on Amazon pretty cheap... highly recommended. Also, a good interview with the man can be found on 'classicbands' dot com. Tried to post a link but RUclips won't let me... just google david blayney interview and it should pop up
He used to. Read David Blayney's book "Sharp Dressed Men".. the answer is yes. Billy's 63 now though so I'm sure he's slowed down, but in the book David said they loved to 'get nekkid and party'.. and that means smoke, nose candy, groupies, you name it. Remember Billy toured with Jimi Hendrix when he first got started. Hell yeah he partied. ;-) (BTW David was ZZ's head roadie for decades.. and ZZ never disputed what he wrote in his book)
Saw him with Roky Erickson . wish he would do another with Lanier Greig , saw them at Love Street great sound . still dig Salt Lick and Miller's Farm . Getting back to the roots . would be cool. Common on man nothen left to prove , Blues in B , when is that comment out. Still lurking in Houston , well back again . Dusty and Frank are the best Rhythm section out there good as Cream . Stick Lanier in for a few songs the dude can still play better then ever . Flash Back to the Max.
It's just embarrassing, but in a way cool, how big companies like that and all the media whores can't handle the fact that some people like ZZ Top just do what they wanna do, look how they wanna look and just rock out. It's something they'll never understand or appreciate, and to be honest, who the fuck needs them.
i like zz, but it was a joke when they were asked to shave for 1 mill. why because they do not need the money. if they were a no-name like me and i have a better beard than both of them, if i was offered the mill i would have taken it.
richard thayer while in Africa a chief of a tribe wanted his cowboy hat and Billy said that he would trade with the chief. The hat he now wears is originally the chief’s hat.
Gotta love this guy
he is one of the coolest men in the world

Good interviewer. He gets into the inside, yet was met with a lot of resistance to show anything of himself.
Billy is a fantastic showman, but listening to him, it is evident that he is also a good man.
Really cool piece. I only know their music and not the guys but I didn't expect them to be so...approachable and nice.
Thank you Reverend Billy G!
Why-oh-why don't they play the entire interview?! Sob. It's captivating.
God damn he has a deep ass voice...awesome
Billy is one gracious, patient man! The guy interviewing him is......well....a CRETIN!
Great piece, thanks for posting this.

Agreed. But he's classic though. totally the kind of guy that would have interviewed Billy back in the 60's. I appreciate that aspect of nostalgia.
Billy does the same interview every time. Still good
BFG is so cool.
This man hasn't had to buy a tie for decades.

when his beard turns white he's gonna look like a wizard! he's already a wizard of the blues

@tomthefunky
yeah :D
It really was the rolling papers...Not ZZ King...That's a Billy tale...
lol!
It would be funny if he came out as a vegan obsessed with yoga.
Does Billy Gibbons "partake"?
A little bar in the middle of the Iraqi desert?! Did the US Army set that up?

Why doesn't this guy wear a cowboy hat instead of that stupid wash rag.
