Before I retired from shipyard most welders used pulse arc, I used duel shield flux core with 75/25 gas, I get less spatter. Those Speed-glass air fed welding hoods are the best, I used them over ten years, my shipyard started suppling them in 2004.............

Why are you stopping in the beginning?This ain't stick welding. Run that thing. Something must be wrong. The cap looks like 7018 run over FCAW that wouldn't have passed visual inspection.
