Did you know you can use the standard LFO to modulate MIDI device parameters? Just drop it on the righthand side of the instrument, it will let you map to the parameters of MIDI devices in the chain.
There is also a MIDI LFO.

This is great. A cool follow up vid would be exploring this concept more with Midi drums and chords, followed by a bit if arrangement ☮️

[00:00] Intro and What's Up: Yo, kickin' it off with a lil' intro 'bout mixin' it up in Ableton Live, ya dig? We startin' with a basic MIDI groove, aimin' to spice it up with some slick MIDI tricks.
[00:30] Takin' Lanes to the Next Level: Breakin' down how Take Lanes ain't just for audio, but MIDI too, and why that's key in our musical kitchen.
[01:05] The Sound Starters: Peepin' at our initial sounds - we got an 808 Core Kit layin' down the beat, and a bassline smooth like a Vintage Chorus Bass.
[02:08] Bassline Magic: Time to jazz up that bassline, creatin' a new MIDI track for all our fresh takes.
[02:48] MIDI Effects Groove: Gettin' wild with MIDI effects like Note Echo, tweakin' knobs to see how it changes the game.
[04:00] MIDI Game Strong: Bringin' in more MIDI madness with Velocity and Expression Control to turn up the heat on our sound.
[06:07] Layin' it Down: Hittin' record on our new MIDI track, usin' them Take Lanes to compare and pick out the cream of the crop.
[07:24] Arpeggiator Adventures: Throwin' an arpeggiator into the mix, playin' with note lengths and randomization for that extra flavor.
[10:05] Scale and Random Fun: Introducin' a Scale effect and Random MIDI for some spontaneous note cookin'.
[14:16] Compin' Like a Boss: Wrappin' up our takes and startin' the comping, choosin' the illest parts of each jam.
[17:42] Sound Design Swag: Tweakin' our sound design with Ableton's Operator, showin' off how we can bend sounds to our will.
[19:11] Picking the Dopest Takes: Siftin' through each take, snaggin' the best bits for our main masterpiece.
[23:54] The Grand Listen: Takin' a moment to vibe to our compiled take, feelin' out the overall sound and the fruits of our labor.
[25:08] Last Tweaks and Recap: Makin' those final touch-ups and breakin' down the journey of usin' MIDI to get creative.
[26:14] Signin' Off: Droppin' some last thoughts on this tutorial, pushin' y'all to experiment on your own, and givin' a shoutout to the extra goodies waitin' on Patreon.

I think the reason your takes were going "wibbly wabbly woo" is because the midi track was still receiving midi from the other one, so it was trying to play two midi clips at once?

Might there be a way to randomize the take lanes? I mean I suppose it would be a sort of mute machine that would live at the top level of a grouped midi track that would get feedback from the API about how many tracks were in the group then mute all but one in a random fashion. Might be a giggle. Ah hang on this a follow action in legato right? Less intentional but might be fun. As always these videos get the grey matter lit. Indoor fireworks 🎉

  • @wraggal

could throw an automation into the clip that didn't need legato to turn off legato just for that clip (might also then need to have automation turning on legato for all the other clips)

Yup, I’ve also found that the LFO devices seem to lag behind by a 16th or so…never been able to fix it and there’s no significant strain on my cpu 🤷‍♂️

The fact that Ableton doesn’t have a stock LFO for MIDI is crazy to me. Yes there is a free Max For Live MIDI LFO (called LFO MIDI) but the fact that it’s not stock is just weird.
