I went through a major Cat Stevens phase in the '70s and had all the albums up to Back To Earth. Richard, you NAILED the ranking, buddy! I would have switched your top two, but other than that, you nailed it.
@@CookieMusic43 There was a time back in the '70s where I would have placed Foreigner.....or even Numbers....at the top! But those albums have dated a bit more over the years than have Teaser, Tea, Mona, etc..
Our brains work in similar ways. For 30 years I always thought it was Aswad covered Wild World, but it was Maxi Priest as someone else pointed out. My eldest brother had Teaser when we were at home. It always stuck with me and was the first album I bought when getting back into vinyl. It was the only Cat Stevens I knew until about 10 years ago when I sought out more of his work. I was amazed to find how much of his work had been covered. He did a superb live concert in Chile after he got back into music (on YT) egged on by his son to do it. I always love the fact that these artists can put on such a performance 40-50 years after originally releasing the material. I just can't see todays acts replicating that in 40 years time! Great video which will help me build his collection.
Good work Richard. I know hardly any of these records, in fact haven't heard of most of them. Even though Morning Is Broken was one of my first ever records, I guess I never became a Cat fan. You have got me curious about some of these now though.
Nice video Richard, I have all of Cat Stevens albums through “Catch Bull At Four” - that record is a bit of a mixed bag for me, after that I lost interest, although I did like the “Oh Very Young” single when it came out. I always liked Cats album artwork paintings on “Mona Bone Jakon”, “Tea For The Tillerman”, and “Teaser And The Firecat” - “Buddha And The Chocolate Box” has a nice cover, good title too..
Great video Richard. As you may have seen I’m gradually getting his albums. I’ve only listened to a couple so far but enjoyed Back to Earth so if everything else is better than that I’m in for a real treat. It was Maxi Priest who covered Wild World. Cheers.
Hey Richard Another great ranking video..this is becoming a bit of a trade mark of yours dare I say!.. I started picking up Cat Steven's albums quite cheaply a few years ago. My top 3 would be 3.Teaser and the Firecat..and I love Changes 1V!!..(controversial).. I like the rhythms on it which are quite unorthodox and tried desperately to copy on my accoustic .Tea For The Tillerman 2nd..my faves are Where Do The Children Play and Wild World but my top spot is Mona Bone Jakon (named after a boner apparently??)..love Trouble and Lady D'Arbenville..I have a few others including Numbers and Foreigner, will have to revisit those as it's been a while since I spun them.As for his first 2 albums, they are quite hard to come by, I did pick up a Decca 2 album comp from the early 70s called " The view from the top" which has a lot of tracks from those ist 2 albums.Tremoloes version of Here Comes My Baby is better than Cats' in my opinion.Great video mate, really enjoyed it.Take care,Rob.😉
Thanks Rob. I will definitely pick up View From The Top if I see it. There are a few tracks that don't feature on either of the first two albums (even though they were added to the CD issues, which I have)
Hi Richard! Wooohooo love love love Cat!....going to be still now, trouble was written about his illness is that correct Richard? I want to be a pop star momma momma see me I’m a pop star lol I was off key 🙄..... hope all is well with you going fullscreen now take care - Lis I like the ranking in the top 5 Catch Bull is just a wonderful album
Richard McCook hey Richard, I watch on my iPad and it puts the video in a box to make room for the comment section, but it makes it hard to see the whole picture, so I can go fullscreen on my iPad but I can’t make comments, so if you notice I come back many times to add to my comment it’s because I’ve been going back and forth w the fullscreen thingy now I bet I’ve really confused you lol....have a good weekend
I got someone to copy his records for me there's one simply called live and one called Saturnight they are different to the live Majikat tour dvd. Now he really did have talent.
I'm surprised to see Numbers ranked as high it was! I would shuffle Mona Bone Jakon to number two, and Tea for the Tillerman to number one, but that's me :)
Numbers is an odd one for me. I initially loved it but got sick of it very quickly. On another day Mona, Tea and Teaser could be switched around. Three brilliant albums.
For the longest of time the only Cat Stevens records I had were The World Of Cat Stevens (1970) and Greatest Hits (1975). I've since collected most of his studio albums but I think those two compilations are the records of his that I play the most. Did he ever release a live album?
Izitso is brilliant as well, sweet Jamaica is beautiful ,was dog a doughnut totally different ,if you played this track to a person familiar with his other stuff ,they would never guess it was by cat.
I spin Cat when Mom visits. I enjoy aswell but it's one of her favorites.
Your mom has good taste Eric

Hi Jeff, I know most people would put Tea ahead of Teaser. On a different day I could have had Tea or even Mona Bone Jakon on top.

His vocals are every bit as good now as they were back then. Maybe it was the long rest that helped his voice

Thanks James. I know you have Teaser so Mona Bone Jakon & Tea For The Tillerman would be obvious choices but I think you would really enjoy Foreigner

Thanks Thomas. Oh Very Young really is the stand out track from Buddha & The Chocolate Box

Thanks for commenting Martin. Ah, Maxi Priest, of course!
you are in for a treat!
Hi Richard I don’t have any cat Stevens studio albums .. so this video was very handy for me .. thanks 👍
Cheers Rob!
I bought 6 albums from the early 70's on CD in the charity shop for £2!! 👍

CHANGESfrom "teaser"is fantastic...huge CAT STEVENS fan here!
listen to Santana's poppy cover.
I consider "Teaser and The Firecat" his most consistently great album. I listen to it without skipping any songs.
Since making this video I admit I do enjoy Changes IV a lot more
Just for fun listen to Santana’s cover of it

I like the ranking in the top 5 Catch Bull is just a wonderful album
Hi Lis, I've given up trying to make my videos fullscreen as the sound is never in sync with the video.
Richard McCook hey Richard, I watch on my iPad and it puts the video in a box to make room for the comment section, but it makes it hard to see the whole picture, so I can go fullscreen on my iPad but I can’t make comments, so if you notice I come back many times to add to my comment it’s because I’ve been going back and forth w the fullscreen thingy now I bet I’ve really confused you lol....have a good weekend
foreigner is my fav!
A very underrated album
I got someone to copy his records for me there's one simply called live and one called Saturnight they are different to the live Majikat tour dvd. Now he really did have talent.
I love it when he plays a duff note on Lady D'Arbanville on the live Majikat recording and he kept it in
I'm surprised to see Numbers ranked as high it was! I would shuffle Mona Bone Jakon to number two, and Tea for the Tillerman to number one, but that's me :)

Hi John, there is a US live album callled Saturday Night but the best option is the Majikat CD with 20 great songs from his 1976 tour
Izitso is brilliant as well, sweet Jamaica is beautiful ,was dog a doughnut totally different ,if you played this track to a person familiar with his other stuff ,they would never guess it was by cat.
I agree, Was A Dog A Doughnut sounds nothing like anything he had done before
First cut also PP Arnold - great version
I forgeot about PP Arnold's version
I hate to disagree but back to earth is brilliant
That's no problem. It's good to know that there are big fans of that album. Thanks for commenting!
Catch Bull At Four could be # 1.
