I am trying this for a second time with larger gauge wire, but I can't seem to get it annealed evenly enough to braid that tight. I can braid loose then let the hammer tighten it up, but it doesn't look like yours. Just practicing
You might try putting one end in a vice that you can stand on (mine’s attached to a thick wooden board/block), gripping the other end with a hand vice and pulling (use your leg muscles for strength rather than your lower back). This stretches it out and evens up the weave. Make sure to tighten both vices down really well because losing grip on one end and punching yourself in the fork of the legs leads to pain and a detonation of loud, coarse personal introspection (please don’t ask for details on how I know this!). Putting the piece lengthways in your bench vice jaws (with a soft jaw covering ) and gently tightening up along the length can also help. Good luck!
