  • This interview episode's guest Biff Byford of the mighty Saxon talks about the new Saxon album Hell, Fire and Damnation and the creative process behind it. Biff also discusses what it is like working with Brian Tatler (Diamond Head) in Saxon and how Brian's playing style affected the NWOBHM legends after Paul Quinn's departure from the band. We also discuss the upcoming Saxon tour with Judas Priest & Uriah Hepp in Europe and their co-headline tour with Uriah Heep in the US.
Biff Byford also shares his opinions on the use of AI in Heavy Metal (yes, sometimes it's okay even for Biff) and the future of Avatars in concert industry. We also discuss Heavy Metal revival, including the upcoming 2024 albums, such as Saxon - Hell, Fire and Damnation, Judas Priest - Invincible Shield and Bruce Dickinson - The Mandrake Project, as well as the new bands, including such as Tailgunner and Burning Witches among others.
And of course the Saxon vocalist also talks about how to make it in today's music business and talks about one particular song on Hell, Fire and Damnation - Pirates of the Airwaves and the meaning behind it. Hope you will enjoy it!

TBH, and imo. Saxon's Hellfire, and Damnation is better than both of Judas Priest 2 new songs, and that is my controversial comment of the day posted. Lolz

Biff always seems like one of the kindest and most down to earth guys in metal, Saxon haven’t released a bad album yet and now with Brian on board this album could shape up to be really great

Biff is saying that younger bands can get a chance to open for bands like Saxon, but the veteran Metal bands have done very little to give younger bands a leg up. It's usually their mates from the old days of Metal, their kids or safe commercial choices.

My grandparents would say hellfire and damnation in the early 70s here in the Rockies of the U.S. so definitely not just a British saying and I'm 58 myself...lol I saw Balck Star Riders, Saxon on the Judas Priest Firepower tour here in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hell, Fire and Damnation vs Invincible Shield? well, to be fair Priest has only released 3 tracks (correct?) but if they're something representative of the whole than it's a slam-dunk for Saxon.
PS: nice interview and Biff's living room looks very cozy!
