I'd like to see Maresca use a 442 formation just one time!
The defence is pretty much set, so in the "midfield 4" we could use Sancho, Caicedo, Lavia and Noni, having both Felix and Jackson as strikers!
We could play this against a weaker team, maybe have Cucurella join the midfield then it becomes the typical 352 that Pep used and may use even more now with Marmoush and Haaland

When Maresca gives the guy 10 minutes of playing time as a sub, how can he perform? I said this a few weeks ago...play Félix (false 9) and Palmer up the middle with Sancho and Noni on the wings.

Joao Felix is world class and he is very consistent.
Every time he is on the ball, he can do tricks and flicks and skill moves. It’s not like he can do it in one game and can’t do it in another. He can play tiki taka pass and through pass. He can drop deep/roam around to offer passing options creating overloads. He has silky and tekky touches and close control. He is so technical, skillful and creative. Felix is a talented player, and there's no doubt about his desire to play for Chelsea. The real issue is Maresca's clear bias-favoring certain players over others, even when it's detrimental to the team. This has hurt the morale of those left out, like Nkunku.
For me, the season is already over-there’s no chance of a top-four finish. Maresca’s selections have played a big role in that. Now, he needs to find a way to maximize the squad’s potential, give fringe players more game time, and let's see what Felix can really offer. It's still too early to judge him.

Joao Felix is a world-class, perhaps even elite, player if he's utilized correctly. The only reason he doesn't perform is that he's not played in his preferred position or given enough game time to showcase his capabilities.

Felix can easily play on the right, just like Oscar did. Noni isn't good as a starter. He's good at causing chaos against tired opponents. Maresca doesn't understand certain things. Sancho basically always cuts inside and narrows the play. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Swapping wingers mid-game is 100% something he needs to adopt. Or at least understanding that we have a diverse set of players, where we shouldn't be struggling to change a game with our substitutions.

  • @terrymccarron9894

You are being grossly unfair with your stats analysis. Chelsea have larely been a first half team this season. His minutes are generally very late in the game when Chelsea are at their weakest, whether Felix is present or not. Chelsea I fear are about to kill the golden goose in a similar way to their ruination of the careers of James and Chilwell. It would be sensible to experiment and split the minutes between Palmer and Felix and then compare the stats for when Felix starts the game to when he closes the game out. Keep Felix he is a rarity in today's game, he caresses the ball and can send defenders in completely the wrong direction. As far as I'm aware this is not measured by stats but is undoubtedly a contribution to chances and ultimately goals.

You mentioned the eye test, well lets look at it then, everytime he starts, he is involved on a goal at minimum, he is a creator of chances for the team, flies into tackles, beautiful skills.
In a world where Palmer is on the right and we have Felix as the 10 with a proper striker, we are going to cook every PL team in attack.
And we cant expect anything much from him when he is playing 10 minutes here and there, and sometimes not even playing.
When he starts he looks good, granted against weak opposition, however you can only deal with what is put in front of you, and Felix has done that. He is loved by the fans for a reason

Palmer is a great player, no doubt. But in quite a lot of games, by minute 60 he starts to drop off, tired and having had the shit kicked out of him for 60 mins he starts to disappear. Does Enzo then give a shout to Felix? No, he waits until 85 minutes once the flagging players have wasted our lead and we're now chasing the game, then brings on Felix for the last couple and expect him to have an inpact on the game? Make that make sense. No wonder his confidence is gone.

People forget - the job of a manager is to unlock a player. Stats will show you how the player has been misused - the manager has to do the hard work to change the stats by helping the player. For me - Palmer and Felix up top would guarantee more goals because Felix will simply know when to pass and when to shoot once he gets into the rythym. He has no game time so it’s unfair and he hasn’t been put in positions where he is a complete asset. Just a liability - similarly to Nkunku. If you ask me - managers that are average don’t realize opportunity. There is a reason Pep regularly changes his lineups.

He needs to go to a club where he can feed an effective front line. Emery is correct to want him at Villa to feed Watkins. Buendia doesn't seem to be able to get back to his level after injury and Felix can take that role.

Our wingers are under delivering a lot. We all know Cole Palmer can play on the right wing. I am amazed that we still haven't seen Palmer on the right and Joao in the 10. That is for me by far our most creative attacking lineup and people won't be able to just to focus on Palmer and double him, because who's gonna defend Felix? Also, Joao makes very intelligent runs without the ball, which makes him the perfect shadow striker. It's criminal that Nkunku with his apparently poor attitude is getting more game time than him. Sancho and Pedro as well! For all their playing time, they have like 4 goals and 4 assists between them, which is no where near good enough. Yes, they might have high percentages for ball carrying and other insignificant things, but in the end all it matters is the goals and assists that you will be judged on and if we have this harsh judgement on Felix, we should have in on all other players of this team.

Maresca is a stubborn man and wastes him and many other players that will end up leaving…..

Good work George love from Kenya.
    Here's my take with Felix.
Comes down to his complex...kinda reminds me of Nicolas Anelka break up star very early in his career...
And he to hobbled around playing for some good clubs.
And when he came to Chelsea he admitted that here he'd found home.
So Felix need to work on his attitude and complexity, to understand a little patience and hard work will help him be accepted.❤

Felix up front. If we're not going to sign a striker give the lad a chance up there. He's skilful, creative and at least shoots when he's in and around the area. He's not small, he's deceptively strong, quite cunning and has clever finishes in him (usually shots just lack a bit of venom). Other than Palmer, we lack players who win us "cute" free kicks in dangerous areas similar to what teams inflict on us far too often. Felix is our trump card which we haven't played enough. Contrary to the narrative spouted, his minutes have been staggered though he's been relatively good when he's played and seriously unfortunate in some games. Clearly Emery has an eye to play him there with Duran leaving so why don't we? A false nine hybrid alternating with Palmer and Jackson operating on the wing. Who knows?

Brought to Chelsea to swing the Gallagher PSR deal. No analysis needed. Bith him and Nkunku stymied in the Europa games based on weekly wages. Chelsea's plan is for Sancho, Madeuke and Jackson to shine. What happens if Jackson or Palmer get injured or are out for a period of time? Who do you trust for your 10 and 9 roles?
Nkunku not a striker. Guiu not trusted. Jackson is in a dry spell not converting. Palmer taking some knocks to his ankles and also not scoring. Is he 100% fit? Does he need some relief based on games and minutes played? The entire team has been compensating for defensive porosity, back line consistency, key player injuries and goalkeeping errors.
How come our wingers are not scoring or getting free kicks or even getting opposition players carded or sent off. Not many penalty kicks or corner contributions either. Madeuke has stagnated or at least not risen to further heights. Maresca does not like his defenders bombing up and down the pitch. Which was one of Gusto's strengths. He is doing his best to adapt to an inverted role but needs more time. This is less likely everytime James plays. Most improved player so far is Cucurella in the advanced, inverted role. A close second are Caicedo and Fernández.
Does the recruitment match the system, style of play with the players' CV. Ball possession, experience, high line, inversion, physicality, ready to play everday, accurate passing and finishing. Players in question: Sánchez, Disasi, Badiashile, Adarabioyo, Dewsbury-Hall, Madueke, Casadei, Jackson, Guiu. Then there is the matter of team spine, leadership, true capabilities. Chelsea's most often available, starting 11 players: Jackson, Palmer, Sancho, Fernández, Caicedo, Colwill, Cucurella and Sánchez? How many will be selected for their respective position in any of the top 5 PL teams Liv, Are, NF, MC, New?
This is one of the youngest and more jr. Chelsea teams. If Adarabioyo, Nkunku, Chillwell, Sánchez, Felix are removed, our average age drops. Might as well add Fofana to that list. Boys becoming men. Misfits learning to adjust to the rigors and expectations of a fan base used to winning. Proven, experienced talent. New era of an ever changing young squad, struggling to keep up.

Its not that. Its Maresca not trusting him to start often in the Premier League. Fair enough he gets game time in cup games but i think its unfair that after 6 months already the rumours swirl that despite his good run in the Europa Conference League and Mudryk now being suspended its unfair for Jorge Mendes to be talking to other clubs to find a solution. Why sign a 7 contract in the first place if he was so close to signing to Aston Devil i mean Aston Villa. Why are they so greedy. Just take Disasi and let us find success again with these young group of lads. And Joa Felix is needed for us. Villa dont even need him ibr

Maresca isn't missing something he's missing a lot.!!! Felix is class but like a lot of others he probably doesn't fit Maresca's failing system. That's the problem with buying into youth and potential at extortinate costs which are false values. - Hernandez is another example. The common denominator in Chelsea's PL team erratic performance is the head coach. Chelsea's WSL have enjoyed excellent continuity and player succession system thanks to Emma so why is the PL squad underperforming and do not address the weak links? When Poch played Nkunku off the shoulder of Jackson they were a threat until Nkunku was injured. Why can't Maresca deviate from his entrenched system cos he's single minded.
