Idk what Maresca has been doing in the last half time talks but it feels like he's taking all the energy out of the players! They come out looking defeated when there's still 50 minutes to play!
Maybe he tells them it's ok to lose so they don't go in a downward mental spiral OR he takes the Guardiola approach and gives them waaaay too many instructions and our young inexperienced players get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of pep talks. I really don't know what's goin on...

To act as an extra defender in possession, offering passing options, creating numerical advantage.
To attract the opponent to press him so that there will be an unmarked teammate elsewhere, breaking the opponent’s press.
To utilise his vision, game reading and decision making on when to pass slow/fast, when to go long/short, dictating the tempo at the back. To combine these with his short and long passing ability, the team would play so much better.
All of the above would increase the quality and quantity of possession, so that the team can maximise the quality and quantity of their ball progression and chance creation, which would eventually turns into more goals.
If you have the ball, the opponent can’t score. So your team would concede less in total.

Yes George - finally !!! You read my mind. I CANNOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE. You really hit the nail on the head.
First, we must bring back Ben Chilwell. He will add leadership and strengthen our defence. Just like With Trev, they are making a big mistake with Chillie.
I can’t believe how reckless these new owners are. They’d rather he waste away than use him. Our Champions League, Club World Cup winning, deputy Captain. He will add a definitive value to the team as he has a wealth of experience.
His market value will also increase (as this fact may hit an accord with these owners.
Jaden Sancho should be encouraged to shoot more from outside of the box also.
I also wanted to say that we have enough players for two attacking options.
Felix, Nkunku and Netto should be our 2nd attacking force and they should be trained to work together. Nkunku is real sharp and he can play as our Fox in the Box.
When Noni, Jackson and Jaden are not working, we should replace them with Felix, Nkunku and Netto for the 2nd half using different attacking strategies.
When we take Reece off, we can bring Chillie on and he can play as wing back. We can move CuCu to the right.
I just added on about Chillie because he has a lot of experience and I am ashamed of the way these new owners are treating him.

    Why was Gallagher sold?
I can’t believe what’s happening at this club. Players like John Terry and Frank Lampard, who I grew up watching, would’ve literally died for Chelsea. They had that deep love and commitment to the club, and Gallagher was cut from the same cloth. He’s a Chelsea lad through and through, someone who cares about this club just as much as they did. But instead of appreciating that, we’re letting him go, and for what? To bring in mercenaries who are only here for a paycheck? It’s sickening.
And now we’re in a position where we’re seriously lacking squad depth in midfield. We’re running Caicedo into the ground with no proper backup, and on top of that, we’re stuck with Lavia, who’s made of glass! It’s a joke. The sale of Gallagher makes absolutely no sense, especially when we’re in desperate need of players who can actually step up and perform. It feels like the board is so disconnected from the reality of what this club needs. We’re losing everything that made Chelsea special, and it’s all for the sake of some short-term financial gain. This isn’t just frustrating, it’s heartbreaking.

It's telling that our 1 win in 7 coincides with Jackson last scoring. Goals are momentum swings and momentum is everything in Football. Goals change games end of, it's cliché for a reason. Newcastle's run is arguably down to Isak. His goals have been crucial to turning the tide or cementing games, likewise Haaland. I actually now regret not going for Omorodian or even Duran. I've been Jackson's biggest advocate for the longest time but sadly this Chelsea squad isn't conducive for burgeoning talents and we just don't have the time or environment now. Under Poch, arguably everyone improved. For all of Poch's faults and failings for "too much running", our teams were extremely fit and sustained the fight throughout the 90mins. We were scoring late goals and running teams ragged. Now we barely have a good second half in games. One thing that we could've hung our hats on with Poch is he's a squad builder, a talent nurturer. A somewhat father-figure to the players. He turned good talents into world class, took a mediocre Spurs and turned them into title challengers. Most of all he knew how to remain competitive in a 5-year period. Sure, his methods were somewhat outdated but I'd gladly take Poch's chaotic and high-energy football than this tactical ineptitude. Name a player under Maresca who's done even marginally better than in Poch's last few months. Poch was a known quantity, with Maresca can we even turn it around? Is his stern tactics a hinderance for a players low on confidence? We don't know.

Owners content to wallow in mediocrity and double standards. Stunned by repeated long term absences. Continuing on a path of destruction. The January window is shaking the team to the core. No solutions yet for goalkeeping, striker, backup holding mids. A lack of urgency to utilize the bench more or unshackle all potential club players who can contribute or make a difference. Our issues are self inflicted.
There are some good parts that need more impetus and immediate support. But there are also weak links that need replacing. Very tough decisions this week on: who are capable to play, who like Chalobah should be recalled, who needs benching, who could benefit from some rest, where we need to make neccessary moves in the remaining transfer saga days, who should be playing where.
The holy trinity need to get their kingdom in order or the slide continues.

I do agree with you George on the majority of your points. It might be a top down approach isn’t working. Our squad needs trimming and new additions in key areas like you mention but I think there is a core that the sporting directors have collected. I imagine they’re not much better than us at couch coaching in football or coaching for that matter. So they might as well make creating good squad depth as a required strength. Most of the time the information from the up top goes quieter as the years go on. Sometimes it works like in our academy under Neil Bath and Brendan Fraser. Sometimes it fails. Things will change, hopefully for the better sooner rather than later.

This project has been going for three years with four or five different managers.
Although there are some positives with Maresca at the wheel, we cannot deny that compared to the number of signings and money spent we are underperforming. The performance of some players are ABYSMAL and looking at the level Chelsea used to perform, this is unacceptable.
Not being able to find a shirt sponsor for over half a season and not signing anyone this window despite the links shows how slow these new management are operating. If this year we don't make Champions League Football, i want Winstanley, Stewart and whoever is handling these assignments out of the management.

We are of the same age george. My first game was a 2-0 defeat at ellend road december 2002. Supported the club since i was 6 years old. I get a lot of grief as im from york.. This is the worst ive seen the club run in 23 years.. I'm 29 now when i first went to the bridge aged 7 the atmosphere was electric. I went start of this season and its just not the same energy from back in the day. Bearing in mind for me thats a 500+ mile round trip to support my club. I do believe a protest is needed. Not to get the ownership out but make them rethink their stategy. Theres other ways of making money rather than farming young prospects and selling them on. My home town club york city do that. The standards are in the mud.

Maresca kept talking about having more control/management in games. In implementing this by drilling the players, he clipped the teams wings offensively…….. hence not going further ahead when we have a one goal lead.
He has curbed the players enthusiasm in order to inculcate more order and control in the long term.
    Backfired, clearly.

The leaders, Liverpool, have an average starting age of under 28, Man City under 28, Arsenal under 27, Nottingham Forest under 27.

George I agree with you. Power is in the toung. So a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Whatever you impress on your subconscious mind them your heart and body will work to bring it to pass. I strongly think that the owners, coaches, and players need to change their way of thinking. Winning is ATTITUDE. The only word that adds up to 100 and I dear say 100%. ATTITUDE is either 100% positive or negative there is no in-between.

As someone who's been a fervant Blues fan since 1945 and my dear old dad who was ballboy before the war and uncles I knew immediately he wasn't good enough! Keeper is useless no ooomphh in midfield ongoing fullback problem wingers who contribute nothing. Other clubs moving upwards while we slide back! Make a mini start by dropping the keeper!

There is a reason mid table selling clubs like brighton don't win titles. Lack of experience. Once they get an exceptional player, he is sold, and the team loses experience. The fact that chelsea sold their better experienced players of last season, Gallagher, chalobah, and petrovic says a lot about the level they wish to operate. Title winners sell their worst players and buy the best. It is crazy enough that a coach would psychologically impart on his team that they are not good enough to challenge for titles. SMH.

But we have extremely talented players in the first team that aren’t being sold. We will come good.

Owners thinking we are not ready for any title race this season is mathematically sound. But then again, football is more than just math. The players and us the fans... we are not robots. Especially us, the fans. Players can play for money but we don't support the club purely because of title and glory. We love the club. That is what these owners don't get. They don't understand love and passion.

Yes the negativity of BALDY when we were second sent a message to the players , that they could take it easy and didn’t have a target themselves. And the players followed the directions they were given, and are now a shadow of what they were only 2 months ago. So I blame Baldy for that. Even if not given a target himself he should not have conveyed this to the team. 90% of sports performance is in the mind so if the mind is not focused on winning you become losers.
Then we have the chaos in the squad, and it’s not clear who is responsible. Is it the Sporting Directors or Baldy as well ? So who sent both our best defender and goalkeeper on loan ? Who sent SANTOS on loan when we were short in midfield given on going LAVIA problems. Who bought VEGA and KDH who aren’t good enough and froze CHUCKY out who is more talented ? Who is selling FELIX and NKUNKU when we can’t score and are too stubborn to get them into the team ?
We don’t develop players apart from certain favourites. Most are bought, benched, and sold. We hear that these owners are running the club as a business but that’s a failure too. There is no profit to justify the huge amount of cash that’s been blown away. Constant PSR issues show there is no accounting profit, and the cash flow over the past three years is negative. Almost every player we have bought is worth less and is being sold at a cash loss, including those bought only 6-12 months ago.
Players we buy are mostly not good enough to strengthen the team, and serious holes in the first team are ignored. It’s a team and a mindset designed to lose with no standards of performance, attitude, or consistency. Above average players no longer want to join Chelsea due to the way they are treated.
The team is getting worse not better and will almost certainly finish below where it finished last season. After spending a fortune we have a squad weaker than at least 7 other teams including NOTTS F and BOURNEMOUTH. How is that even possible ? Any normal person without mental health issues, given 1.5 Billion would build a squad at least above those clubs and on a par with LIVERPOOL, ARSENAL, and MAN C. That’s enough to buy 15 players for £100 million each. The scale of the failure is beyond belief.

We need to sell or loan: sanchez, disasi, badiashille, fofana (if he keep injured), and KDH
    Need to be done:
    1. Top goalkeeper or recall petrovic rn and see top goalkeeper market in the summer.
    2. Top striker unfortunately we need one rn so, if we can like city splash that garnacho money for top striker like gyokeres or osimhen will be great.
    3. We need midfield back up rn. We can recall either santos or ugochukwu or both of them if you want guarenteed back up.
    4. Maresca must be brave to change things if not success. Ex: he can play palmer on the right, Nico on the left, playing with natural fullback not inverted one, or play palmer with nkunku or Felix.
