I love this ending, but I'm not sure why. For some reason, it makes me feel sad, as most ending do, but at the same time it's incredibly uplifting and makes me feel hopeful. It's the end of a wonderful relationship, but it's also just the beginning for Viola (assuming what Will is writing is supposed to actually be happening). Her future is a blank slate, free for anything to happen, and I think that's a very fitting way to end.
@Alejandro Candelario actually what he’s writing is the play Twelfth Night. In the story the main character is Viola and she is in love with the Duke whilst serving him disguised as a man. So, in the movie Shakespeare is sad,but inspired by his love to write another powerful play mirroring his “experience” in this movie. Hence why she says write me well. Obviously it’s a nice, but fictional way to explain why there is a Viola in Twelfth Night.
I've personally decided that they leave it open to interpretation. If you know the play Twelfth Night, then yes, we are seeing a "prequel" before it starts. But I also think it *could* be Viola's actual experience, and IDK man, I need that for her.
“Write me well.” These three words frame the entire message of this film. And for Viola to be the one who asks it of him… It’s just screenplay perfection.
Gwyneth truly was amazing in this movie, as her performance was heartfelt, enchanting & Oscar worthy (a well deserved win!). Perhaps the most magically compelling actor in this well acclaimed masterpiece, & definitely the most romantically captivating. Yet everyone was excellent & intriguing.
about a month ago, we had auditions for this play, and i was cast as viola; the next day, though, we had to cancel this show and do a different one. ironically, the next show on our agenda was ‘twelfth night’. i auditioned for that one, and got viola.. the pressure to maintain her integrity from this story to twelfth night is _so_ real; it’s as if i can hear her voice in mine, and all she’s saying is: _write me well._ and that i will
My heart breaks and tears fall down my face... so bitter and sweet.. yet still, my heart is enlarged despite the pressure on it... I can see more clearly.
I still refuse to believe she left. I have convinced myself that the shipwreck scene was real, and when she landed on the shore she took a ship back and went to William. I know it's not historically correct, but hey, I'd rather it be this way. :)
Besides Titanic this is the most beautiful and heart breaking star crossed love movie ever made! I literally cry every time I watch this scene! It's so devastating and heart breaking! To have to say goodbye to your one true 💘
Yes, writers have been stealing stories for a long, long time. So long, in fact, that Shakespeare himself did it with many of his plays. Do a little research, and you'll see that Hamlet, Lear, and many of his best were based on older plays, pieced together. It's the telling, not the tale, that makes for great art. The "original" source doesn't matter all that much, in the long run.
one of the best scenes ever. I cried so much and i put it again and again. So beautiful and strong love. YOU WILL NEVER AGAIN FOR ME, OR FADE OR DIE...
I believe that Shakespeare was the only poet who wrote about the "Agape" kind of love, while all other poets mainly wrote about the "Eros" kind of love.
In my mind the ship wreck scene was real and stupid Wessak died so now she can happily return to England and go back to Will's arms... Then they lived happily ever after! That's how I see it in my mind :)
Fun fact Gwyneth Paltrow was offered the role of Rose in Titanic but turned it down. Personally I think that Gwyneth would've been just as amazing as Kate Winslet was, if she had been cast. Since her character Viola in Shakespeare in Love is very similar to the Rose character in Titanic. And oddly enough Kate Winslet was also offered tbe role of Lady Viola in Shakespeare in Love before Gwyneth was.
One greatest movie ever made wish made more parts . I enjoy movie A plus actors were greatest. 100000000000000000% wish add more since wrote new part. Lets keep it alive years come.
He did the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in 2011 - very nice, with the older classic actors and an international setting (India). So that's rather current. And it was pleasing movie.
decisions.. I would have loved for this to have a happy ending (because Wessex is a prick), but if it had had a happy ending, the movie would not have been a good a story as it is. So sad. yet good :)
Only in fiction would Shakespeare allow Viola to play in his production. He wouldn’t have dared risk his career like that. But yep 👍 way to inspire a cross dressing comedy: Twelfth Night.
I hope have blueray DVD I enjoy watch millions times better on DVD not on TV. Junk shows. More relax love story I enjoy. Not all junk stuff show on TV. Bad for anyone.
At least the good Queen gave her a chance to say goodbye to her Romeo before she was damned to a life of eternal misery with that vile, pompous aristo-brat. At least...for a moment....she was able to be Juliet.
This movie is stolen, like so many other Hollywood movies. It is from three scripts that were stolen from other writers and pieced together to make this movie. The three original scripts were "As You Might Like It', "No Bed For Bacon" and "The Dark Lady".
There's something so powerful with just the image of her walking down the beach into the distance. So beautiful
Same. I think because in his story, her future was unwritten
The waited for the tide to go out on the English coast of Norfolk.
This is still the one scene that makes me cry all the time and the other reason it got Best Picture other than Miramax
"You will never age for me, nor fade, nor die."

we love it because it is one of the best things ever. 20 years later - still true
I've personally decided that they leave it open to interpretation. If you know the play Twelfth Night, then yes, we are seeing a "prequel" before it starts. But I also think it *could* be Viola's actual experience, and IDK man, I need that for her.
This ending encapsulates the true meaning of bittersweet. It’s devastatingly heartbreaking while simultaneously hopeful.
“Write me well.”
These three words frame the entire message of this film. And for Viola to be the one who asks it of him…
It’s just screenplay perfection.
Tom Stoppard is a genius.

Perhaps not
Concordo! Esse filme é lindo.
this is my favorite movie ending. the way he details her trip to a far off land, so beautifully written

Such a great ending. One of may all-time favorite movies.
My heart breaks and tears fall down my face... so bitter and sweet.. yet still, my heart is enlarged despite the pressure on it... I can see more clearly.
The scene where everbodies falls into the ocean was breath taking

I still cry when i watch this scene.
If she deserved and Academy Award, so did he.
JPFerraccio Cate Blanchett deserved it!
“For she shall be my heroine for all time…and her name will be Viola.”
If I ever have a daughter, her name will be Viola.
Mine is, for this reason!
definition of: LOVE
The music haunts me.
Goodbye Good night everybody
this is my favorite Shakespeare play
Why has no-one made a good Twelfthe Night movie that is set in the true period?
The time may be off but I LOVE the one with Helena Bonham Carter, Toby Stevens and Steven Macintosh, Ben Kingsley. Fantastic.
In my mind the ship wreck scene was real and stupid Wessak died so now she can happily return to England and go back to Will's arms... Then they lived happily ever after!

🎉🎉😢Aşkım yerlere düştü ve seni kaldırır iken canlandı kitap bin aşkla.❤❤❤😊
Next up!...Twelfth Night! My fav play!
Time to watch She's the Man XD
They should just make Twelfth Night now.
And if all Shakespear's plays were read by Joseph.... *melts*

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!
Goodbye; my love, a thousand times; goodbye..
Fabulous film 🎥 😅
He did the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in 2011 - very nice, with the older classic actors and an international setting (India). So that's rather current. And it was pleasing movie.
ytcarol,
What pronoun game are you playing? He who?
write me well :-) I love this movie!!
Viola 🥰
My mom and I loved this movie because it’s such a great love story of Romeo and Juliet
Birini benden fazla sevme diye parçalandım senin hıcrelerinde doğucağım.😊
Shakespeare was totally in love with Viola, until he met Anne Hathaway, his wife.
I love this movie and all the romance, but at the same time I am like Shakespeare you are a married man!
I know it came first, but this ending reminds me of a slightly less depressing Moulin Rouge.
Why did you cut the ending? ☹️
And people wonder why this beat Saving Private Ryan.
It shouldn’t have
Welcome to treasure Island
write me
So she goes to start a sugar plantation in Virginia around 1600...🤔
Alex the same type with Shakespeare
Would u eloborate more? Where did u get ur info? How was it stolen? Is it on wikipedia?
muy bonita la

Actually, I saw a movie on here titled, "The twelfith Night". It might be what ur looking for.
so cute

I don't know, it's a mystery...

i hate this scene! parting lovers breaks my heart
At least the good Queen gave her a chance to say goodbye to her Romeo before she was damned to a life of eternal misery with that vile, pompous aristo-brat. At least...for a moment....she was able to be Juliet.
Agreed. I was wondering why I saw all these comments about loving the ending and I'm over here thinking "They did not end up together."
Did she end up going back to her husband? Why’s he saying goodbye
🥰👌💖
It's about 50 years anachronistic lol. Virginia was founded in 1619, and these events take place in about 1600.
Sequels coming out!
So she went to Virginia with Wessex eventhough she didn't want to
I hate this ending. They didn't end up together. 😭
They couldn't. Diff ending, no Twelfth Night.
@@kimquinn7728What do you mean?
you have posted this bullshit before. Could you link us fans of this movie to the scripts from which it was stolen from?
