  • Join us as we partake in the slimmest of weather windows on what was effectively our first winter camp of the year. This time we headed out to the South Eastern Cairngorms and Glen Lee and the surrounding hills/mountains

First time I’ve seen one of your videos. I’ve walked passed Invermark Castle,!I thought it was a folly. Absolutely amazing, thank you.

Glad you enjoyed it! - Its a lovely area I think you'll agree. For what its worth I'm no historian so take everything I say with a large pinch of salt but another commenter below @McConnachy had a lot more direct local family knowledge and indicates its a bona fide castle! - ATB Tom

Brilliant. Really enjoyed this one, Tom. Beautifully filmed and edited. Mo and I have dossed in the bothy and I also spent a fairly miserable night in the stables some years back when I was bagging the hills. Your photos of the stars (and satellites) and summit camp were outstanding. Loved the voice-over too, making for a very professional production. Well done, and thanks for sharing. ATB, Dave

Thanks Eddy - the problem was it got dark about 30 mins after arriving at the campsite... short short days at the moment... it would be depressing if it wasn't for getting out on trips like this!!

Very good again Tom. Loved the morning time lapse with clouds, all the views too and music fits beautifully to it. High up camp looks so atmospheric but it has to be a really cold long night at this time of year, well at least no midges🙂Well done to you both! PS. Btw just did Rannoch - Dalnaspidal - Trinafour - Rannoch cycle with wife and dogs with overnight at Duinish. Thanks again for all the info about the trail in between the bothy and loch Garry. We didn't try to do the higher option on east side of the loch you suggested to me..sorry🙂I will come back and do it one day on my own. Anyway.. I will Look forward to more of your films, you always chose an interesting area/route. Cheers🚴🥃🙂

It’s not that bad to be honest. The last section to the summit is a bit bouldery. I managed to ride most of the descent into Glen Tanar.

Thank you for the video. Invermark was to protect the drove roads from the Cattanach’s, raiders from across the hills in Strathdee (now known as Deeside). It was then used by the British army to suppress rebellion in the glens. Apparently several redcoats were dumped into Loch Lee.
I grew up nearby, so was great seeing the places I know so well.

MConnachy - Thanks for the history lesson! it really helps put a little 'colour' to the area and memories... great to know... fascinating - especially the grim end to the English soldiers at such a beautiful place. ATB - Tom

I did a first ever bike packing tour in 2019.
I went from calais to Gibraltar. 4 weeks didn't know what to take what spares to take. It was a total fascinating ride. Lots of advice online but none correct. I loved it and wished I did a you tube on the ride.
