- During my visit to Arizona, I did many hikes, but one of my favourite hikes was in the Chiricahua National Monument. Located in the southern part of Arizona, bordering Texas, the Chiricahua National monument is a biodiversity hotspot with hoodoo rock formations.
The visitor's centre is really helpful and if you are into collecting US National Park Stamps in the National Park Passport, you can get yours stamped there! Unfortunately, they do not have Pressed Pennies if you collect those but do have token coins of the monument.
There are multiple entry points to the 10-mile hike loop and parking is fairly decent, but would advise getting there early so as to get a parking spot. If you have a jeep or a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle, or a capable SUV, you could always park on the inner side of the road and walk to the trailhead.
Keep an eye out while driving to the trailhead as well as throughout your hike as you can spot wildlife since its a biodiverse region. We spotted many species of birds (Mexican Jays, Acorn Woodpecker, Red-Tailed Hawk, and Towhee, to name a few) and the Arizona White-Tailed Deer. The rare omnivorous Coatimundi (Coati) is also found here, but we didn't see it. Maybe you will get lucky, so keep an eye out!
